Inline skaters have more skill than skiers

Well......
I think inline skating is where the future of skiing is going. If you look youtube at the stuff the inline skaters are doing today the tricks are far more complex and technical then any of the ski tricks. and they also look waaaaaay more steezy. Also in the pipe inliners are doing way better stuff then skiiers... they have been doing double flatspins for ages also this guy been doing backflip to 360 to backflip in one jump. then there is the rails.... chris haffy does switch 630's onto handrails and then there is all the compicated grinds which you need to be very skilled to be able to do. Some pro inliners skied for a week and were doin cab 7s and 9s over 60ft+ tables. and when all guys hate on inliners for having no steeze look up chris haffey or brian aragon on youtube. i think overall pro inliners have a lot more skill then pro skiers.

And while I think inline is pretty cool, there is so much more to skiing than just park.  I personally ski the rest of the mountain about the same as a I ski the park, and if I lived anywhere where there was some powder, I would only do one park run a day.  You can't compare the two sports.

and to those arguing about the skiing-blading crosover, I have seen some skiers do some sick stuff after blading less than a week. It's a pretty even crossover.

if you think that rollerblading style sucks maybe you should rollerblade with good style. i think when there is no snow around it is fun to get on a pair of skates and do stuff on concrete that i would've otherwise tried on snow.

Rollerblading has pretty much lost all popularity and commercial viability, so the pros still doing it are a small core group, and so they all have similar style and do similar tricks. It constantly evolves, there's definitely like, pollard style riders in skating, but since even the top rollerbladers get no recognition, the lower people get even less. The other thing is that, taking a sw 7 off a set of 20+ stairs to flat concrete is completely nuts, and it hurts like a bitch even if they land perfectly, so give props where props are due.

My only point is that, you wouldn't look at a skiing slalom race where everyone is in spandex and say "all of skiing is gay." you could say, "This part of skiing isn't for me, i think its ugly and stupid" The same is true for skating, it can be done in a way that is stylish, and people will think that is cool. Other people won't, but I gaurantee you that no rollerblader rollerblades to be cool, they do it even though everyone thinks they are a homo- because that is trivial and people need to grow up, so props to them for not giving a fuck at least.

i think the main problem is that street rollerblading is much gayer than park rollerblading

park rollerblading is really sick.  Most american rollerbladers have shitty style too, european rollerbladers have much better style, exception haffey

what your tryin to say is ridiculous. Just cuz an inliner can do 630 on doesnt mean that skiers should be able to. Skaters have nuthin on there feet. we have things the legth of our bodies, often taller. If you wanna continue on this point you could say figure skaters can do 1080s on the ground and skiers cant so figure skaters are better. its stupid and makes no sense

 I have to completly disagree with you. I ski and skate and skiing rails is a lot easier then inline rails. And you must of not noticed the word "Handrail". With the switch 630 it was on to a handrail which in height would be above most peoples waist which I doubt you would be able to even jump onto let alone do any spin onto. Aslo with rollerblading you have to land in the groove which is about an inch wide so there is not a lot of room for error. Skiing you have the whole ski to land on. I can 270 onto rails both skiing and inline and I can assure you inline is much more difficult. So it looks like you have no idea what you are talking about and to make your self look "tough" to all your little internet buddies you full your comment with insults instead of logical points. And no hating please Hendrik. I'm not judging you just on this comment; I am sure we can still become good friend on NS. Also this has nothing to do with comparing apples and oranges. Its actually skiing and rollerblading. And please no hating on my thread. Nice to hear you oppion.

this shit is rediculously funny, yet i find somewhat relevant. 
inline skating's dope! i've never really understood why it gets a bad rep...probably originated as hate from skateboarders.
nevertheless, inliner222 you should've specified in the start the similarities to FREESTYLE skiing.  i imagine you don't live around good mountains.  skiing encompasses so much more than freestyle, and that, young "noob" (pardon my french), is why you are looking so foolish in the first place.

so, its funny the only part you really commented on was the notches... you also realize you have the whole side of the skate next to the wheels as well, with which you can easily lock on as well...


as for the rail being waist height... um, ok, sweet... the street style down rail at breck is above my waist too...we hit that.


and also you obviously have a very limited understanding or education of/in the english language as you obviously didn't understand my metaphor of comparing apples and oranges - they're not the same, and they can't be compared.

the kids i see at the skatepark have like a big notch that goes the length of the rollerblades and there is one wheel in front and one in back, and i see them 270ing onto big handrails like its nothing, sometimes even 450's shit like that would never be possible from flat on skis. skiing and rollerblading are very very different, if you want to compare a sport similar to skiing compare it to snowboarding.

i played roller hockey for like 5 years and even did some freestyle stuff for awhile before i started skateboarding, and skiing and blading are totally different, with skis you have boards on snow, with rollerblading you have shoes with wheels, the only similarity is that we both face forward.

Those bomb drops look really painful.

And why don't bladers care about arm position? Someone earlier said that bladers don't keep their hands at their sides cause it'd "look stupid"... but I don't see how it would look any "stupider" than keep your arms in control on skis.

Maybe blading just developed a different notion of "stylish" that I don't really understand cause I've never tried to do it?

idk about skill but skiers got nothing on inline steez. pro inliners are way more steezy than pro skiers. helmets for instance inliners don't really rock em. inliners hit crazy gnarly wall rides, gaps, switch ups on sketchy rails ledges etc. all on hard concrete at high speeds were the consequences of hitting your head would be bad!!!  and doing it w/o a helmet makes it way more g and stylie. yeah dude was a dope movie with real cool segments like the calgary and nebraska jibs but it was gayafied by the salad bowls some of the riders chose to wear on their heads, so wack.  and in general inliners are in the street, and all the ill  fashion trends start in the street at least most of em.  this coming from a relatively long time skateboarder.  hate away.

Wearing or not wearing a helmet doesn't make something any more or less steezy IMO. When it goes wrong though, the ones who do wear helmets will be glad when they're around to try again some other time.

Skiing is not only park. Your forgetting the rest of skiing. I think shredding down a steep exposed face with rocks showing and dropping cliffs takes much more skill then spinning to win onto handrails with little wheels on your feet.

I really dont have too much to say in this argument... I am not a huge fan of skating... its just not my thing, however I do respect what they do and there is no question that they are all talented at what they do. The only think that I feel I need to add is that there is a recurring theme here regarding the the switch 630 that some skater did to rail and all I have to say to that is: Candide. in Wha'ppenin he does a HUGE switch 630 disaster on like a 50ish foot gap. He also did the cork 810 to rail before that... one more time OFF AXIS 810 to rail over a 60 foot gap. And then theres Corey Vanular doing a Flat 810 to rail and rodeos to rail in Long Story Short. So dont go knocking skiing for lack of technicality in that respect. And keep in mind all of those were done with huge amounts of style and had grabs. I havent seen the vid of the skating 630 to rail but based on what I have seen thus far I doubt that they did it with that kind of style.

why are we hating? just an opinion guys,

i agree with the main message of this thread, which is that skiing is getting much more tech, inline skating and skiing are a lot alike, newschool inline has been around a lot longer so it has had time to go through the same kinda stages that our sport has gone through, like getting super tech. this guy is just comparing the sports. i love skiing, but other sports that take sooo much skill and balls like inline get my respect too.

i think inline skating is cool but its just like on your feet. its like jumping in your shoes. and its way easier to lock on to rails. on skis, skis are long and are haverier than skates. so its like jumping around in your shoes.  skiing is harder i think because skis are long and havery. are you got ski boots too.

you should totally think your argument before you type it out.  that is like saying track running is like nascar. 

they both run around an oval turning left.  except nascar has cars, it's on asphalt, there are more laps, there are pit stops, the top "athletes" are predominantly white instead of black and they wear helmets. and no hating please

yeah it influenced park skiing a little ,but it didn't totally influence every part of park skiing. It influenced rail slides for sure, but not really jumps. There a different things going on with jumps on blades and skis. There is a whole different aspect of skiing that has absolutely nothing to do with inlining at all. You can't just generalize skiing to that one part. So no inliners do not have more skill.

since i have dial-up, i don't feel like looking for the video, but search rollerskater crashes on you tube. this kid gets ran over by a car after coming off of a rail.
from now on, if anybofdy mentions rollreblading, that's what i think of.
