Comment Censoring

since when have mods started removing "bad" comments in the news articles. some people wish to express their personal opinion regarding people, places and events only to have them deleted? i understand that some of the comments are crude and probably shouldn't be said but others aren't so bad and are still removed.

was there any announcement of this or rules regarding posting in the comments section? i know there is a forum rules thread but are they the same?

I'm going to personally delete every comment you ever make.

Really though, I only ever delete something if it's just really stupid ( like "Jon is a gay cock fag" - someone actually posted that in a news article) or if it's obviously slanderous, saying something untrue about an athlete or company or whatever. As far as I know, people are allowed to disagree, as long as you keep your comments from being indecent. I dunno, that's all just my personal opinions.

Any message may be removed if it is deemed by mods to be unsuitable for any reason whatsoever (Amongst other reasons).

This is why mods exist - to moderate content.

right, i couldnt have said it better, im fine with disagreement(i think its a good thing, makes you examine your beliefs) but i really dont enjoy being called "a 12 year old inbreed with downs"

Exactly. Mods aren't going out of their way to carry out a conspiracy against you (or are we?). Were skiers just like you, we are all about people expressing their thoughts as long as they aren't slanderous or inappropriate content.

^yea i understand the whole indecency thing, maybe its been going on for a while and i just haven't noticed.

and rowen pretty much nailed it, i made a comment about someone regarding a certain event and it was removed. yea i probably shouldn't have said it, just seems like the site is being censored more than it was in the past. does it have anything to do with the 411 ownership or was it a general consensus to clean up the site?

I by no means speak for the site when I say this, but I think has nothing whatsoever with the 411 acquisition. We've been trying to clean up NS for a while. Soon after I became a mod a bunch us decided to respond to the outcry of people complaining about how shitty NS is and about how many crappy pointless things get posted. Were just trying to weed out the filth and try to have lots of quality posts.

A while back, a lot of people were complaining about how many garbage posts, threads, comments, etc, that there were all over NS. The admins made me, iggyskier, skiunit19, and then skodeo mods to supplement their ability to keep down the levels of stupid/useless/insulting posts, as a lot of the previous mods were hardly ever online anymore. So it's the latter, has nothing to do with 411.

There's zero to do with the 411 ownership here... they could give a shit what is posted on the site, as long as it doesn't break any laws.  

We delete stuff when its fucking stupid and unnecessary.    Comments, forum posts, pictures, whatever... all of it falls under the same roof.

People come on here and constantly bitch about how NS has too much shit talking, so we have been making more of an effort lately to just delete the useless whiney complaining, and just plain dumb posts. 

If people didn't say stupid shit, we wouldn't have to delete it, but for one I'm sick and tired of reading stupid hate.   I mean if you're going to hate at least make a good point and post intelligently... that way you don't just come off as a whiney teenager.  :)
