Replying to Destroy an ipod without voiding warranty?

ZavierV:
Alright, so the deal is, that i have the first gen video (30gb) and i've had it for 2 years. actually, it's my second one because the first was ran over by a bus and that peaced the harddrive so i just said the battery was toast.

ANYWHORE, the new ipod video came out a while ago and i was quite frustrated when i found out that it is:

a) has more than double the memory
b) was much cheaper (for 80gb model)
c) nicer

What i want to know is how to make my ipod not function, without voiding the warranty so that i can get a new one. The plan is that they will give me the new 2nd gen. video but i would settle for the same but  shinnier version of mine. the Apple warranty is long gone, but i still have 3 years on the Bestbuy one so please let me hear your suggestions. I'd also appreciate it more if people who have succesfully done this, let me know their methods.
