Well I had some boots that hurt me for a while (1080's) mostly with shinbang, but I had ordered them online so I figured sizing was off. So I go down to a shop this season to get new boots that fit correctly. I go to a local shop that is pretty well known for being awesome at fitting boots. I got fitted in some technica agents 1/2 size smaller than my 1080's and way tighter. I figure its a good thing cause its supposed to be tight. But now after skiing them for 10 days they have ruined almost every day. Last time to the point where my eyes were watering from pain and I had to lay down and unbuclkle on the hill. The were crushing my foot right where it gets fat behind the toes. Can this be fixed by getting them punched out? I also still get NASTY shin bang. The boots are tight and I wear thin socks with nothing tucked in obviously. The pain is on the outside of my shins, like where the tounge ends on the side. Not directly center. Any ideas? Boots always ruin my season, even now that I got them professionaly fitted.
Damn dude that sucks. That happened to me last year. The boots were too small and the guy was like oh don't worry they will pack out blah blah blah blah. I had like a race fit cause the guy was a fucking retard. I took the boots back and they exchanged them for a size bigger for free. When buying those boots I only tried on 2 pairs too.
I suggest you take them back to the shop and have them fix them. And next time you buy boots please try on every pair they have in the freeride category (I assume you ride park and/or pow and want a slightly softer flex). Once you get good boots you will be amazed at how much better the skiing is.
When I bought boots this year I tried on like 8 pairs, and bought the best fitting ones, which happened to be full tilt Konflict boots. Don't spare money on boots, spend as much as it takes to get fitting boots.
yes that can be fixed by punching. it is expected when you have a good fit that you will need to punch out/ grind your shell to match your foot. As for shin bang, booster straps and not landing in the backseat.
Take them back to the shop and have them work on them 'til they're right. I bought some Technicas in the US a couple of years ago and they ruined my whole trip because I was numb from the knees down after 15 minutues in them, even when unbuckled. I took them home and got some custom footbeds, a bit of work done on the cuff and in the shell and now they're absolutely perfect and like slippers.
Also, even if they're currently too small remember Technica's pack out HEAPS, so try and do what you can with them, then grit your teeth and try and get a few more full days in them to try and force the pack-out
Also, I should add that the pain behind the toes often happens to me even now. I find it's a combination of buckling too tight at the start of the day and a build up of stress and tension in my muscles. My advice would be to start with your boots real loose and cruise some easy laps just to let your feet/legs settle (because they're probably going to swell/expand in your boots as you do more work), then re-tighten when you feel them get to the absolute loosest point (should be about 3-4 runs in depending how hard you're pushing)
I must admit, I have never experienced bad boot pain (knock on wood) even with the boots I use now, which are hand me downs i got for free from a friend...I would just try a different bootfitter for more opinions
