Not another center mount thread

hey, so I dont have a problem with it for any ski, anywhere, anytime.... well any ski that I would buy.
Alot of people think you cant ski outside the park well with a true center mount, I think you can just fine, in fact I know you can. Mostly because I have adapted my skiing to suit.

what are your thoughts? I find just leaning back a little more while carving or skiing deeper snow or going super fast is the key. Just changing your center of gravity you know? I figure ns is a little different than your local shop... or some dood who doesnt get it, so I hope there is some actual feedback.

I havnt really heard anyone or read anything really on this subject... and I dont know how to use the searchbar because Im that guy.

Well for the most control in sketchy lines having it at recommended is best...but if you don't ski the steep, deep, and go huge then center mount should be good for you since you can still make turns downhill and ski switch amazingly with center mount.
It's definitely not as fun or good for your skiing stance while skiing lines with center mount but yes, you can still do it.

Mounting just any ski dead center is stupid.  For park most of the time dead senter it is the way to go,  but mounting your pow/charging/all mountain ski center is dumb.  You don't wan't to be skiing back seat when you are going really fast on steep slopes.  You don't need to have your bindings in the center of your skis.  I  do mount my pow/charging skis a little farther forward for better switch skiing performance, but not center.

I learned to ski last season with a true center mount. It took a few days to get used to, but helped in the park so much. I also noticed a very small difference in pow and moguls. Maybe I'm just weird though, I dunno...

I can't imagine center mounting my charging skis although I still us them in the park now and then.
I'll just get another pair specific for park riding and center mount them.
If you just want one ski for everything you will have to make a compromise on it's performance for some sides of the mountain. Just my 0,2

What you need is different skis for different purposes.
For the bc you'll need one charging ski and one jibbin ski. I have centermounted hell bents and a pair of regular mounted scratch bc's (ski is stiff as fuck), this way I can do both

um...the scratch bcs are NOT stiff as fuck at all. They're relatively soft compared to most charging skis. Compared to hellbents yeah they're stiff but look at any big mountain ski that's not aimed at being a powder ski like the hellbent is and it'll be pretty soft.

I do mean, everything. On one hand I dont think its the greatest idea if youre in like alaska, but on the other hand, if youre hopping around on a spine... that would be just fine by me.

I dont have an issue screaming down a steep groomer. I consider myself a pretty strong guy. So I just lean back a little more and put down an edge. Its not hard.Same with pow, lean back a little more. I know the tip dive becomes an issue, but if youre a good skier, hey, figure it out.

Its great for skiing switch, duh.... especially carving switch, it really makes a difference i feel. And ya, I think a huge part of my skiing is ripping groomers, and bonking and jibbing up stuff along the hill... the whole hill is a giant playground, and I think dead center works for me... but that is because I have skis that fit the description.

I think anyone who says that, for the sake of argument, doesnt know what they are talking about.

also, it is a preference... some people like 2cms back or ahead of center.

I just think it odd, that people with no prior experience would think its such a waste.

It's all about personal preference. I love having my skis centered everywhere on the mountain. I don't find it at all necessary to lean back at all, and I find that my skis carve quite nicely with binders in the middle. Obviously switch skiing is amazing, and I ski switch easily just as much as I do regular, so that's really important to me. I also find on rails and in the air, having balanced tip and tail is really useful in doing pretty much anything.

It's definitely very different than the classical mounting approach, though, and many skiers, especially those who don't spend a lot time in the park won't be interested. But it's not like it's black and white...if you kinda like it but don't want it full on, go for 3 or 4 back or something.

It does make a big difference to how skis feel. If you get the chance, take out some park skis with a rental binding and you'll be able to adjust the boot sole from around true centre to 8cm back. Yes you can ski a centre mount everywhere but the tails feel a lot nicer carving forwards if you're back a bit.

And for the record I mount my park skis on running length centre, about 1.5cm back.

ive been riding park at +4 for a while now just because thats how the shop put it and i didnt know any better, but now i work at a shop so im gunna center mount em on saturday then wait for some snow and see if its better or worse

i went from plus 2 to plus 5 to true center over the last 3 years, for a park ski, its hard to ski pow at true center, the tip dive is madness at first. but, for any pow thats a  foot or less deep, or if its broken or tracked, its not an issue. Some may say it kills the performance, but I say having a short ass tail  also kills performance. Anyways, if you have more than one pair of skis, one of them should be center iIMO

If you're a good skier you can ski practically ANY ski mounted anywhere and have a pretty good time. Those of you saying you need to mount you"charging ski here, and your park ski here, etc, etc.." probably haven't been skiing that long, never skied in the early 90's, and watch too much ski porn.

I agree, I've been riding true center for 3 years now and can carve pow, rip the steeps, and shred the park pretty dope. It isn't as stable having to be in the back seat more often, but its not that bad. Plus there is nothing better then landing switch in the back country. Makes you feel way better then you probably really are.  I ride 07 Dynastar Big Trouble 187s this year and last which are kinda long and pretty wide so maybe thats why I have less trouble with a true center mount.

if you cant carve on a center mounted ski than you cant carve on a normally mounted ski.  in pow it is stupid to mount center but other than that if you are a good skier than it doesnt take more than a run to get used to.
