Losing rights in the US...

So over the last few years we've obviously lost rights (in regards to the Patriot act and the recent 5th amendment fiasco) and our country has changed quite a bit but I was thinking it over and I can't think of anything in my own life that's changed drastically because of any of it. It's absurd to think that our country is changing in such a way and that people are being jailed unjustly and all of that, but what have you, personally, lost (or noticed within your life) due to all of it?
I expect to see quite a bit of responses about family and friends being sent to war, but what else?

The average person (someone who doesn't break laws or have anything to worry about if inspected) shouldn't be affected, but I still oppose recent restrictions of freedom on a matter of principle.
Like ben franklin said: "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Alright, all you people who think this is bullshit, I want to know:
A. How many have called their congressmen and complained
B. How many even voted
C. How many have taken the slightest effort to change things besides posting it on NS.

Your lives probally haven't chnaged that much cuz you or the goverment haven't done any drastic choices. Just wait till booze is illegal, and there is a curfew everywhere, and the draft is re-instated. Thats when those rights you have lost will really hit you. YOu won't be able to do shit about anything unless you are willing to go to jail for your complaint.

I'm not sure if you meant me in saying that, but I made this because I'm curious, not to make a point or a sarcastic attempt at discrediting anything.

all three...
but people should really try contacting their state governments... they usually respond. AND given the state of the federal government, are more likely to care and perhaps take your comments and suggestions with some heart.
but as for losing rights, we are getting close. and although i could rant all day about tuition prices and health care (which not only affects me, but americans everywhere), no where in our constitution do we have a RIGHT to health care or to education. But damn it we should!

I know a bunch of kids who went down for selling pot because of warrantless wire taps. I'm guessing they were listening to me too, because I talked to them on the phone. They don't just use that shit for fighting terrorism.

people need to stop feeling like the government doesnt have a right to do anything to them
you dont have the right to do whatever you want, and the goverent will take action if needed
theres not many cases that are completely irrational and if they are they usually go to court and get over-ruled and such

i feel bad for those people. there HAS to be at least one innocent man in there, that will most likely sit there for the rest of his life with no way to prove his innocence. They say they are such bad people in guantanamo then lets fucking try them already!

I've had enough of this bullshit. Freedom of speech, Freedom to choose, equality, blah blah blah. When will you people realize a president needs to commit tyranny to run an effective country? We aren't all the same. Face it. I was born a different time, place, to different people than you. So how in the hell are we equal. Life is just a fight for induvidual supremacy. Bush is doing a very good job of that, and I think it's great.

i dont mind it much now but in like 10- 20 years i could see it getting really bad. stuff like having your cars speed recorded in the car the time so every time you speed you get a ticket nomatter what.
cameras everywhere, like being watched 24/7.
i could definatly see our country giving up almost all freedom which is such bullshit.
in the constitution or something it says that it is the citizens responsibility to take over the government if freedom is lost.

you cannot run a country or any society at that without the government.... so stop with the fuck the government shit.
the way our government is being run is a result of the things going on around us.... despite the fact that i disagree with 99% of what is being done to cope with the situation, im going to play devils advocate and say that they are doing what they can to protect our country.
instead of saying fuck the government..... go vote.

Exactly. eventually you will just get jailed for suspicous movements. Not even doing anythign wrong. It will be fucked, and you knwo what, there is a time to do "wrong stuff" I mean there is wrong, like killing people and rape, which is always wrong, but there is wrong like trespassing, speeding and other minor wrongs, that i feel need to be commited to give yourself a sense of life.

I think this country is just going through a weird change. I think we are at the start of what could be a really revolutionary metamorphosis in the government.
However I doubt anything significant will happen within the next 10-15 years.
Most of the change will come from our generation if we don't all die first. All the kids who are in colleges and high schools now are going to really change this country for the best I think.
We are growing up in an age with drastically different views then those running the country now. I wish I could expand on that thought more, but I am not knowledgeable enough on the subject really. It's pretty obvious that come change is going to happen though we just have to get to it.

haha, wars are never going to be fought with nukes unless it happens in the next 15 years.
There are theoretical weapons that can come out of biotech and nanotech sectors that would put nukes to shame.
Nukes might be a concern for now, but 15 years from now they will be THE LAST of my worries.
I think there is a pretty high chance of a nuke war within those 15 years though unless we all get our shit together. And when the nuke war does happen I am getting the fuck out of this country because it's gonna get pwnd. I predict China/Japan/and Russia to come out on top if it does go down.

i don't know how japan would come out on top of a nuclear war, and they certainly won't be fighting on the side of china. the chinese and japanese aren't big fans of each other and if it weren't for US forces in the western pacific, china would steamroll taiwan immediately and probably japan not long after.
as far as losing rights in the US goes...vote for Ron Paul.

in afghanistan (i know, not really middle east, but not considered central asia either) this past week german engineers were kidnaped as well as around 20 koreans there on church work. in Côte d'Ivoire, their 3 year cease fire came to an end as an assasination attempt was made on prime minister, Guillaume Soro.

i got a 75 dollar parking ticket at our school because i parked in a spot that used to be teachers only, but someone took the sign down so everyone thought it changed to student parking and everybody that parked in that area got a ticket even though it wasnt posted. i asked my teacher who used to be a lawyer if they could do that and he said that it is against the law.
so i said im not paying it and they told the police that i wasnt paying the fine. so our school officer said i would get an even worse punishment if i didnt pay it. i told him they cant legally give me a ticket since it wasnt marked and all he said was that im a student and i should have known. it was bullshit. and the gay thing is they let another student get away with and he just happened to be a suck up 4.0 student
i dont know if thats exactly loosing my rights but whateva, its fucked up anyway.

here's one... i can't remember the full story or where it was. but about a year ago on the news there was this young (under 16) girl who in her myspace had sarcastically mentioned that someone needed to assasinate Bush. Not too long later her house was visited by FBI agents searching her home and computer and detaining her for questioning.

It has to get worse before it gets better.
I hear this shit all the time talking about the remodeling the rents wanted to do on the house, but it works in government too. Right now this shit is all kinda under the radar. A lot of it has not even been seen on national news yet. Before a major change can take place a bunch of people are gonna have to get pissed off. The big question is what it takes for that to happen. One person above me is right though, this generation is gonna have a lot to say about the future of the nation.
That said, all countries have issues, Canada may seem better off now but its no closer to 'perfect' than what we have in the USA. Yeah we're in some shitty times now, but its not like that hasn't happened before and we've always weathered the storm. I know its going to get better and I would never live anywhere else.

maybe there is one innocent man there and if so i feel for him, but if those books with diagrams on how to torchure people with torches and shit that they found in the terrorist houses are real then fuck every single person in that base in cuba, fuck all of them
