It already is an epicenter for snowboarders. Word has it there aren't too many skiers there though.

man I've been trying to figure out where I can move to when I graduate college. I really want to be close to a great mountain, but I want to live where I'll get a decent job too.

This basically rules out living near a place like Mammoth. If bear mountain is still as cool as it looks in 2 years, it looks like the place to be. I couldn't tell distance from the maps, but it definitely looks real close to cities in So Cal. Anyone out there know how far it is from actual cities?

its in big bear lake and its about 40 mins to big citys. i can tell you that the night life sucks ass here and theres nothing to do in the summer. so its pretty much like mammoth. except mammoth gets more snow. and yes theres only about 10 of us skiers and the rest are snowboarders. 10 skiers might be pushin it.

I think its a little more then 40 minutes. When we did it, it took us between 40 and 60. And the road to get there is a BITCH. It goes up 7000 feet in 30 miles. Turny as fuck. And I've heard that bad weather can set in on that road real quick. But Bear is definitly sick. Huge huge park. The jumps are built really well. The problem is they don't get much snow. But if its below freezing, they are making snow. As much as possibal. They will blow snow 24/7 if possibal.

it takes me about two hours to get there from newport beach. the road is super gay, tons of forigner city people types, you know, all packed into their hoopty bucket ghetto cars wearing trash bags over their jeans for waterproofing when they go sledding down the dirt/snow patch on the side of the road. They drive as slow as a shit sliding down a hot rock in summer. If there is any kind of weather, forget about it. they have a hard enough time driving on 8 lanes of freeway when its barly raining, let alone a winding mountain road in snow and ice.

Every snowboarder there thinks they are devun walsh or JP Walker, drives up there in their little rice rockets, or moms Lexus SUV, or Audi.

The park is good though.

secondly, I'm sure all the snowboarders there are as good as devun walsh. your mileage may vary, but when I went ridin in So-Cal and attached that dew-rag to my pants, I was instantly throwin down the switch rodeos like nothin.

seriously though, even an hour and a half commute isn't that bad if you get to live in a populated area and ride a sick park.
