Ghost/Scary Experiences Thread

Now that it's summer and we're all bored, we need a thread about scary things and going out and exploring the haunted places in your town. Feel free to add pics and videos. I'll start with a story, it's not really scary but kinda interesting.

After buying some fireworks we decided to go explore this church that was burned down by some crazy dude years ago. It's a wierd place, there's like an old abandoned house by it and then the old ruined church, it's like in the middle of a forest. People say that a big stone cross was dragged out of the church and is just sitting in a clearing, we couldn't find it.
When we were getting out of our car to start walking up the trail to the church, and we saw a car coming down the road, so we hid in the trees around the dirt clearing. It turns out it was some gay mexican kid and his friends doing the same thing we were, hah it was funny we scared the shit out of them. On the way to the church we came to a wierd place with 3 cars that were totally trashed. We finally found the church. It was a stone building and one wall was collapsed allowing us to see most of the church from the outside.
A girl we were with took pictures with her camera and it was soo creepy, a few of her pictures had those orb things in it, and one we looked at later had a creepy ass face just sitting in the dark.
There was a ditch going around part of the back of the church like someone dug it out, and it went underneath the building, into like some kind catacomb, my friend was standing inside the ditch looking into it and he said something grabbed him, and we took off, I don't know if I believe him but it scared me.
Hahah, and one of my buddies told me a story when he went there with his girl one time and he said some demon or some shit jumped across the path, and scared the shit out of him. He took off without his girl(she chased him) and he ate shit and got dirt in his mouth, he felt so bad for leaving her, but he said he was so scared, he admits it could have just been a deer. But it's so funny he ran off with out her and ate it.

Dam that is creepy. My house is the same way, creaky as fuck. I think I may have posted this one, but one night I was woken up by something tapping the side of my head. Literally, it was like someone tapped my temple with their index finger to wake me up, but no one was in the room.

I should also add that the engine rpms were jumping all over the place when I wasn't changing the throttle for like one minute. Kinda freaky.

the only weird thing that's happened to me, is once when i was 14 i woke up to feeling someone kissing my forehead, but no one was there. nothing really other than that.

my youngest uncle on my mom's side claims to have been abducted by aliens, and their sister said she saw their dead grandmother the night she passed in her hallway waving good bye.

this is mine, make of it what you ill b.c I'm still not really sure if I was dreaming or not.

So, last winter i had to go to a cousin's wedding we live upstate and it was somewhere on long island so we had to stay at a hotel.( It was dumping at home btw I was pissed i had to go, we got like 3 feet) So anyway, When the wedding was finally over at 1 or 2 in the morning everyone just went to bed. So I wake up because I feel like someones moving around, my parents are in a bed in the room also so I was just kinda like oh, one of them must have to go to the bathroom or something. For some reason I open my eyes an I see a figure walking almost kind of crawling in front of my parents bed and as soon as I look at it it just stops moving and looks at me. So at this point I'm like dad is that you? and both my parents in the bed next to me just mumble stuff ( their obv. asleep) after I called out I looked back and the figure was gone. Scariest thing thats ever happened to me, ever. I'm still not sure of what i saw, maybe I wasn't all the way awake? either way it scared me.

Fuuuuuuu for bumping this. I have to work the late shift (2-8) and close up (I work at a farmstand) and now it gets really dark around 8. Plus I have to work alone so shits probly gonna happen.

Something odd is going on. If you remeber my past threads of the thing that would walk up and down the stairs and to the outside of my door has settled. I'm not sure where it went or why it stopped. There is a house about 2 miles away that my parent's friend lives in. Claiming it to have a nights full of spirits. Some nights he will have one stare at him from the end of the hallway, other nights he says there are at least 40 wandering his home. Weeks of being told of the scary experiences we decide to show up. We come to the house its about 500yards of aspen trees that were never as green as they should have been lining the driveway. An old creaky house that hasn't had an owner in more than ten years although its occasionally rented out.

Its 2 in the morning we have nothing better to do then be in a musty old house with a possible crazy man who seems to really enjoy drinking with my dad. He explains what he sees shows up where he can see people moving in and out of his view through the hall way in front of his bedroom. Tells us about the basement and how he feels about it.
My father, my brother, my friend, all walk else where, i felt like my feet and eyes were glued down that staircase, I pushed open the door further to snap some shots, my heart felt like it was getting pushed away, my breath stuck in my chest. Nothing to see but blackness and a hollow smell of air. I have two pictures on my camera with a black streak down the center, I was being followed or watched since I stepped in that house I knew it.  two steps down my dad and friend walked back over, no exchange of words but we walked down into the depths. My father is really loud and obnoxious i tried to keep my distance from him. Feeling uneasy but nothing was going to happen I moved on. I decided to stake out the upstairs stairwell, Mac(the resident) said he always saw moving around the area. I sat on the second step from the top, palms up just waiting for something. I felt like someone was talking whispering to me. You couldn't understand  anything but you could just hear the tongue hitting the top of their mouth and movement of the lips. 5 minutes of sitting still someone grabbed the back of my colared shirt and pulled up I fucking lept like a gazzelle down the stair case, the back of my neck feeling someone had held ice onto it.
Shaken and excited I went back downstairs to just stir up some dust. Downstairs was a little more musty then before my dad quieted down, i had time to look around, small windows, not even I could fit through them. a toilet and a sink... plumbing works kind of odd, and an old locked kind of closet.  Got some cool pictures.
went back upstairs to my spot I had picked up, three minutes to sitting with my palms up. My ears almost cluttered with the whispers. Something was grabbing on to my left pinky finger. 30 seconds in the cold feel almost as if each individual hair was getting pulled up. My chest felt to heavy to describe my brain felt like it had an ice pick in it. I had to bolt again to find comfort. Ready to leave we walk out of the house, feeling almost violated with questions

ooo that just reminded me.

once i was staying at my friend cottage which is on an island in the middle of a lake. there are only two houses on this island, and no critters, because you'd have to swim over quite a distance and then would starve if you stayed. anyways. we were sleeping and i was sharing a bed with my friend. we awoke in the middle of the night and heard sounds like someone was running around on the roof, but it stopped and we shrugged it off and went back to sleep.

in the morning we were talking at breakfast with our friend who owned the place, and he was like "oh, so you heard the kids running on the roof?" and we were like "what do you mean?" obviously, he was being a bit sarcastic about it being kids, but he replied by saying "yeah, sometimes we hear people walking up there, but there's no animals on the island, creepy isn't it?"

I was staying at my Grandma's once, and it had always had the weird presence in the air and I never thought anything of it until this happened...I was there for the weekend and I was sleeping on this REALLY uncomfortable mattress that was on the floor and I got up to take a piss in the middle of the night and when I came back the pillow was at the foot-end of the bed and there was a random Civil War book just laying out on the floor for no reason.

One time at my other Grandma's house I saw my dead Grandpa (Who passed away maybe 10 years ago) walking by in the hall. Scariest moment of my LIFE. I will never forget it.

Click for larger imageClick for larger imageSso it doesn't look like much on this as it did on the phone itself. the top picture you can zoom in on, and that blur the the side of the wall looks like an arm sticking out you could zoom in and see each individual finger bone. if you look into the back you can make out faces of people staring at us, maybe you can't on the comp pics but you could see them on my fathers blackberry. On the second picture its a leg stickin out of the wall it doens't look so spooky now but... those aren't normal pictures.

My house is haunted.
My house dates back to the 1800's (an old creepy farmhouse)
Previous owner's kid died in it.
My worst ghost sighting:
Around 2:00 am I woke up, and walked to my bathroom down the hall. In my bathroom I have a window facing right into our barn. My barn has a haydoor on the top floor which is just an opening in the top of the barn. As I am in the bathroom, I look out of the window, and in the haydoor, I see a person. Probably the most scary moment of my life because it wasn't necessarily a ghost. It could have been some creepy homeless dude living in my bar.


Yeah that's the worst. I've pretty much grown up with weird shit because my dad has about 5 skeletons and about 40 human skulls in our house.

This thread's pretty cool. My exgirlfriend lives in the middle of nowhere in New Hampshire (like 30 mins from Lake Winnipisauke (spelling?)). Her house is 300 years old and pretty big. They currently use it as an assisted living home that her dad runs. Needless to say, lots of people have died in this house. They have a ton of different stories that they've told me of things going on, but I was always skeptical.

So I was visiting her for a week this past winter (it was over winter break from school), and pretty much all day I had been making fun of them for all of their ghost stories they kept telling me. So night time came and everyone went to bed. In the room I was staying in there was this space heater that made a humming noise when it was on. In the middle of the night I woke up because the humming of the heater kept starting and stopping abruptly. Not only was it doing this, but I could actually hear the knob to turn it on and off clicking through. At first I thought it was just the heater acting up because it resumed just working normal, but after a while it started up again. After acting up for a while and again going back to normal I walked over and turned off the heater and went back to bed. Again the heater turned on and kept flipping on and off. So this time I went over and actually unplugged the heater. It turned on again and kept flipping on and off. So at this point I was starting to freak out. Since (up until this point in my life) I didn't believe in ghosts, these types of things didn't really bother me. So I went into my ex's room (we were dating at the time btw) and woke her up and tried to tell her what was going on, but she was just kind of in a daze from having been woken up and just told me to go to bed. So I went back, left the heater unplugged and nothing happened after that. Pretty messed up.

But like I said they've told me tons of stories of things that have happened to them in the house, including actually seeing ghosts.

Ha ya dude, I've been on the same kayak trip and gone to that same camp. It's creepy, weird, religious shit that just kinda gave me the shivers the whole time I was there. A real uneasy feeling. Didn't like it, especially that church.

When I was 13 I went to a freeride training camp in Vermont. One night we camped out in Whispering Pines park. There weren't many tents, and as nightfall approached I still hadnt picked one to stay in, suddenly it began to rain. I've never experienced rain like that, it was like someone smashed open the comic water main and the leak was right over our campsite. Small streams were cutting through the dry dirt before we knew it, and everything was soaked.
Myself and a few other tentless campers found refuge by breaking into the van we arrived in, shortly after finding salvation from the downpour, it stopped altogether, but this is where it gets weird. Across the campsite from our van was a small building housing the camps only bathroom, to the left of that was a massive pine, and to the right a path to the other side of the campgrounds. At around midnight we noticed a man standing behind the pine, he would stand absolutely still for 5 minutes at a time, then turn on a flashlight and shine it around our campsite. He did this over and over until finally he disappeared. Creepy. Then another man came down the path from the right and went into the bathroom. Ten, fifteen, twenty minutes and no sign of him exiting. A woman enters the bathroom, same deal. The youngest in the van start to worry. We see another guy coming down the path, and cant help but laugh. This tall lanky fellow is rocking knee socks, jorts, and a coleman lantern, but again no sign of him once he enters the bathroom
Things get weirder. Finally a man exits the bathroom, we dont recognize him, but something is oddly familiar. As the man walks back down the path i notice he is much bigger then anyone who we saw walk in, both in terms of girth and height. I couldn't quite put my finger on why he looks so familiar, then he turn on a coleman lantern... he was wearing knee socks and jorts, the same knee socks and jorts the lanky fellow from before had on. WTF. We all lose it, nobody can explain whats going on, then the youngest kid in the van starts screaming his ass off and pointing to the sky above the bathroom.
It gets really unbleievable here but i swear on my life, hovering in the sky far above that mysterious bathroom, was a green, bell shaped light. All sanity in the van was gone, kids freaked, i think the lil guy was crying. I watched the light in disbelief, it moved slowly until it was over the flashlight guys' pine tree then it accelerated incredibly quickly and vanished.
I dont know what I saw that night, or what happened. But the memories are still very vivid, probably due to how freaked out. Nobody but that fat man we didnt see enter left the bathroom that night, i know this is true because we checked it out the next day and the only door was the one facing us, there werent even any windows they could've crawled out of.

ill make mine short so you guys dont have to read too much.

story 1:

theres a place in my town called winding trails (farmington,ct) . so one night we were at a friends house and decided to go over there. its a park that you get a membership to . so we sneak in and its around 12 ish 1 amish and we are sitting out on a dock because theres a lake  . the moon is full and is was reflecting off the water pretty nice . we were just gazing out on the water , when we saw a boat , with two people in it , but the boat , with a motor , was making no sound . so we yelled and tried calling them and got no answer . the boat then disappeared .  its a man made lake , and in the middle there was a house , and the chimney from it still stands . the owners were a woman and her husband who both passed away . we think it was them .

story 2: decided to go to a graveyard last year with a like 4 girls . . . one girl then says that she heard someone say her name . no one else did . then we got quite and a couple seconds later , we all hear "amanda" in like a raspy old voice that was a little louder than a whisper . we all ran as fast as we could got in the car and booked it . . the girls were shitless .

yeah vermont has a lot of "alien" activity.

Here's a couple stories pertaining to vermont but they were told to me by my uncleand dad.

Story 1: My uncle used to be a contractor so he built houses. So one day they are working on the roof of a house, the ladder is leaning onto the roof. I cant remember if it was late afternoon or dusk but anyway, him and a few other men are on the roof. Then they are in the unfinished basement of the house. They all said they had no clue what happen. Just one minute on the roof the other in the basement. The freaky part is the ladder was still leaning against the roof of the house so they had to hoist one of the guys out of the basement to get it.

Story 2: Same uncle. He is hunting by himself in the woods of vermont on the shores of lake champlain, right near basin harbor. All of a sudden he hears this noise that he couldnt explain. He sees this thing, humanoid in form but with this fur around its face, kinda like a eskimo with its hood on, standing on a clay flat, digging. he said it didnt have a face but it was digging like it was looking for something. Then he said it stood back, and made the weird noise again. He said he saw another, slightly smaller one, start coming over towards the first one but instead of walking he said it seemed to be floating/hovering. He didnt stick around to see what they were digging for though.

Story 3: My dad is a very down to earth guy and by far not a bullshitter. He said one night back when he was much younger, he was walking down an old dirt road with his gf, my mom now, in the middle of winter. It was night and they were looking at the stars. They came to an old barn and my dad peered in one of the windows. He said when he looked in, the barn was illumanated by light and he saw people dancing in 1800 garmets. He specifically remembers a women in a flowing scarlet dress. Anyways he said it was basically like an old party. He calls my mom over to look and when he looks back in the barn is empty and dark.

This is the first time I have shown this photo to anyone out of the family. This photo is 100% legit. And cannot be debunked any farther.

On Christmas night in 2006, my mom's side of the entire family came over to celebrate Christmas. My mom's side of the family is quite religous and have had experiences with the paranormal. My family in particular is not too religous on Christianity. The following hours my mom had continued to clean the house to the point where it was completely spotless. The mirror in our living room was described to my mom as "uncleanable". She said that the whole day and continued to say so because she said that the mirror would not stay "clean".

When everyone began showing up and everything, it was like a normal christmas. Everyone was fine and were enjoying themselves. As the night grew darker and everyone settled in, it was time to about open gifts. Before we did so, my dad(far left and dark skinned) decided to snap a photo of us all. A fews before this happening, my mom's parents had both died. From age. Everyone needed them on that night because everyone agreed that it felt lonely. My dad took the photo and everyone opened up their gifts.

After that, most of the family left and we cleaned up and went to bed. A few weeks pass and my dad loads the photos onto the computer. I was 10 years at the time and was easily scared from many things. I watched my dad put the pictures onto the computer and look at the one photo he took on christmas. He examined the photo with me too look and how happy everyone looked and how fun that was. Until my dad blew up the picture to a larger size, did we look past reality and physical bodies. Slowly, my dad zoomed farther into the photo and saw this strange cloud on the bottom left hand corner of the mirror. My dad called up my mom from downstairs and explained to her that the mirror looked very dirty. She said these exact words "uncleanable...uncleanable." She saw the photo and immediatly, without a doubt, new that was her parents. I could not stop thinking about the thought that something, or someone was in my house at that time, our could be with me now. It frightened me to death. At that age, parents will normally say to there kids that ghosts are fake, there not real. When I asked them if there were ghosts in the mirror, I expected the normal response, "No ghosts aren't real Jake! They are just your imagination!" what I got was intirely different. "That is your grandparents Jake, they are ghosts, and they are real." We had drove past the house of my grandparents and it was clear that there was an outline of there window in the front of there house that has the same outline as in the mirror.

I did not know what to think after that. Knowing that there is somehow a way that there is a link between the living, and the dead. It seems impossible, but somehow it is very real. If you do not believe me I have photographic proof of this photo. In which appears theses bulleted apparitions.

-My grandmother, which at the time of her death had curly white hair. She is seen on the bottom left of the mirror with a "halo" around her head.

-My grandfather, when he died he was buried with a necklace(forgot the name of religous necklaces with beads and such). Which is clearly visible in the photo. He is seen in the bottom left as well, to the left of the halo.

-Orbs. (Undebunkable manifestations of energy that are in spherical shape)

-Strange apparition of a small "Jesus like" shape.

-Strange outline in the mirror.

Probably the most scared I have ever been was on a camping trip with my friends when I was like 12. I was staying in a trailer with two of my friends one night and one of the kids parents was staying in a cabin down the road. Before we turn in for the night my friends dad tells us to be careful because a bear has been wondering around the campsite. So later on it's like 12PM and I decide to go outside to take a piss. Mid piss all of a sudden I hear this really deep growling noise right in front of me. I just bolted the 20 ft back to the trailer as fast as I could and I couldn't talk for like 5 seconds.

i seem to always get in supernatural shenanigans. i have a few stories

i have a boat in roche harbor wa and i was eating diner in the mcmillans restaurant, there is a private party room upstairs that used to be the maid's quarters (the restaurnat is in an old house) theres history in this room that the maid hung herself from the chandelier, which is still in there now. it is also said that weird experiences happen up there around 7:30 when she killed herself. i was eating up there and at 7:47 pm the closet door swung open abruptly and out of no where. no one touched the door and there was no one in the closet. also there was no draft because the walls were well insulated and all the windows were closed tightly because it was very cold out.

also, in my neighborhood in wa there is this creepy haunted house where the elderly couple that used to live there killed themselves by dropping a toaster in the bathtub. the house has been for sale for many years now and every once in a while someone gets close to closing a deal on the lot but it always falls through because this place is super sketch. one time it even got so close as to start tearing down the house in an effort to make the lot look more appealing but construction was canceled due to supernatural reasons. i  have done a fair amount of exploring around this sight and i havnt seen anything too unusual. you cannot go inside because the doors are locked and since the house is for sale it would be trespassing. but theres a hella sketch shed out back that iv looked through. theres alot of file cabinets and spare keys and stuff too in there, im trying to find something interesting in there but as of now i havnt seen anything that has caught my eye. i have pics and i will get them up if i can there on my cell.

last one, iv never really told anyone about this but my houe is odd at night. it looks like a normal house and theres no history on it except that it used to be an old holly farm, im lookin into that more to explain the events that happen here. i wake up alot in the midle of the night to see an unusually big coyote staring at me. this has happened more than once and every night i have trouble falling asleep and i am always the last person awake in my house. i often hear voices and there usually very clear. i havent heard anything directed towards me, ther usually just singular random words. but still scary as shit.

i havent told anyone that last one because im afraid no one would believe me, and idc if u do or not, cuz i kno it happens, frequently.

The room had the lights dim to provide atmosphere, but right after i said that the lights went up and got really bright, then went right back down.

Across the campsite from our van was a small building housing the camps only bathroom, to the left of that was a massive pine, and to the right a path to the other side of the campgrounds. At around midnight we noticed a man standing behind the pine, he would stand absolutely still for 5 minutes at a time, then turn on a flashlight and shine it around our campsite. He did this over and over until finally he disappeared. Creepy. Then another man came down the path from the right and went into the bathroom. Ten, fifteen, twenty minutes and no sign of him exiting. A woman enters the bathroom, same deal. The youngest in the van start to worry. We see another guy coming down the path, and cant help but laugh. This tall lanky fellow is rocking knee socks, jorts, and a coleman lantern, but again no sign of him once he enters the bathroom

Things get weirder. Finally a man exits the bathroom, we dont recognize him, but something is oddly familiar. As the man walks back down the path i notice he is much bigger then anyone who we saw walk in, both in terms of girth and height. I couldn't quite put my finger on why he looks so familiar, then he turn on a coleman lantern... he was wearing knee socks and jorts, the same knee socks and jorts the lanky fellow from before had on. WTF. We all lose it, nobody can explain whats going on, then the youngest kid in the van starts screaming his ass off and pointing to the sky above the bathroom.

It gets really unbleievable here but i swear on my life, hovering in the sky far above that mysterious bathroom, was a green, bell shaped light. All sanity in the van was gone, kids freaked, i think the lil guy was crying. I watched the light in disbelief, it moved slowly until it was over the flashlight guys' pine tree then it accelerated incredibly quickly and vanished.

I dont know what I saw that night, or what happened. But the memories are still very vivid, probably due to how freaked out. Nobody but that fat man we didnt see enter left the bathroom that night, i know this is true because we checked it out the next day and the only door was the one facing us, there werent even any windows they could've crawled out of.

Heres mine, We have a house almost 25 feet from the lake and its been known that people have drowned and died out there. Anyways, One night I was laying in bed and i felt like someone was watching me through my closet so I went under the covers to hide (I was around 12 or 13) I was breathing deeply and freaking out. I eventually fall asleep but I wake up to the noise of faint crying and sobbing I look up... Nothing there so I go under my blankets again and all of the sudden I could hear my closet door opening I hear the crying getting louder . It sounded like a little girl or boy who was very scared just sobbing. And as I hear it get louder I hear the loudest scream or roar I have ever heard and it stopped. I am honestly trembling as I type this. I woke up the next morning and I swear to God there was a Large fishing knife in my wooden bed frame. I jumped out of bed and ran to my parents room completely freaking out crying. i asked my Dad if hes ever seen the knife and he said no. We went back into the room and he tried to pull it out. My stepmom had to help. The knife was almost an inch and a half deep in the bed frame. Its been two years since i have been in the room.

This sounds like a classic case of subsonic sound resonance. It isn't sound that you consciously hear, but it has been proven to cause unease in humans and a feeling as if "someone is watching them". It is thought that this is due to the fact that large predators such as lions and bears produce this sound when they roar, and subsonic sound travels further than audible sound, so it is an early alert to humans to be on the lookout. The sound also resonates at a frequency that causes your eyes to vibrate lightly and create "shadows" in your peripheral vision and in low light situation.
