Is a fat ski worth it?

so i'm 17, 5' 9", 135 lbs and still growing. i ski on a hill with 400 foot vertical drop in SE indiana. i want to know if a fat ski would be worth having on such a small hill. i actually don't spend much time in the park even though we have a pretty nice one. i see myself hittin more powder and tree runs once i get to college and out of indiana. do you guys think getting a wider, more flexible ski would be fun at my hill? i have 07 TMs for rails jumps and eventually urbans but i think having a wider ski would throw a lot more enjoyment into such a small hill. and if you think it would be worth it to get a wider more flexible ski, what would be a good suggestion. thanks


shorthand: i ski a small hill (400 ft.) would a wide ski make it more enjoyable? if so what ski?

what ski are you on now? how much longer are you stuck at this place? how important is ability to carve on hardpack to you?

a wide ski probably won't make your tiny hill that much more fun, but if you plan on moving out west when you graduate (i assume you'll be a senior next year) then i would definitely pick up a pair. my advice to you would be to take your time and wait for a really good deal to come along in the next season. i would just stick with what you have for your last season in indiana and get a pair of fatter boards (ie 95ish waist) when you get out of dodge and figure out where you're going to land.

fat skis are possibly the coolest thing ever.  as you could probably deduce from my name, i ski at snowtrails and i have had some form of fat ski for the past three seasons.  they're awesome for taking into the park, and for general shredding around your resort.  if you want a good ski for kickin it around here, check out a k2 seth, rossi scratch brigade, armada arv, 4frnt vct...  or if you wanna really go for it, peep something turbo wide like a line elizabeth or sfb, or some surface live life's.  i think we're going to carry those in our shop for next season so i'll probably be on a pair.

like stated i'm on the 06/07 TM. i'm going to graduate next year so that means i won't be at my hill too much longer pending on where i go to college. hopefully somewhere near good skiing. but carving on hardpack isn't too important. i only start really carving when i'm alone or bored. then i'll just start skiing switch. which last season thats all i did. but i can really afford any ski i want, i won't have to wait for a deal becuase i can get a shop form which is cheaper than anything i'll find.

i ski in Wisconsin at a small hill just like PNS, last season i rode 182 moships centermounted and loved it. now ive got new arvs in a 185. gonna centermount those too!

i would get a ski that has a big waist but not that big. something around like 92
