thr movies are so fuckin shitty . its frustrating. i understand its a difficult task. but they do such a terrible job trasmitting what sking is about with thier ultra super corny dramatic teasers. and its even more frustrating since there one of the biggest.

I'm glad that they didn't have all of their accomplishments of their last film thats kind of annoying

yo have to admit thoug that MSP and PBP are the only two (well at least that ive seen yet) that have full trialers not teaser trailers (TGR and WM and BP)

seriously, you guys hate way too much on MSP? why? because they have a great formula in their movies? because they throw huge parties for their premiers? or maybe is it because you don't like watching guys shred pow and backcountry lines?

so they don't produce movies for park rats, big fucking deal! they realize that a lot of kids won't pay $30-$40 for a ski movie so they go after the older crowd with more money to spend and can appreciate all mountain skiing. they are not a one dimensional film company that is making making movies for park rats.

MSP is on the same level as TGR and (as long as sale of TGR goes well) the two will eventually surpass the massive advertsement that Warren Miller has become.

yea i guess i was trying to address the unseen variable in what pipemunky was saying. if you start aiming your movie at the "older crowd" and continue to try to sell ski movies to people with money eventually you're going to turn into warren miller, a line has to be drawn you know. in my opinion its a slippery slope.

like if you start aiming your movies at the people who buy condos at straton, or those who go skiing for "family bonding" /to get out of the city, the people who participate in our sport but are just on a completely different level.

They're not aiming their movie at an older crowd. They show nothing but fucking gnarly skiing. They now have a shitload of park: Not for the older crowd. Their movies get sicker every year. And they have always been sick. I grew up with PBP, MSP, TGR. And those are still the movies I watch. And they're still fucking sick.

i think the editing and musical choices are aimed at the older crowd, but that may just be a function of thats what the editors/msp in general really likes.

i think you are right that msp is trying to put out the most gnar film they can, and inevitably that poses a problem. gnar means AK, and unfortunately, as fatbastard (gaffney?) pointed out earlier AK limits what you can do, as you have to shoot from a heli, and as the olenicks pointed out a year or two ago, the scope of AK is completely lost on you until you get above the line---the cliff you thought was a nice 20fter is actually 70.

so what do you do?

or do you try to use a shitload of helmetcam like PBP/JP did in War, and TGR did w/ sage last couple years? helmetcam is amazing. its like being able to film on the knuckle of a jump vs 100 ft away. it changes everything, and really shows you how fucking ridiculous AK is.

mcintosh's opeening seg illustrates my point for me. his jackson seg was the gnarest thing i've seen pretty much ever...all because of helmetcam. his AK seg....meh. did he have a bad couple of days? no. the jackson seg jsut translated that much better with the helmetcam and far-cam pairing. i guess my logic is leading me to say that AK doesn't translate well to movies, and unless you use helmetcam or go rediculous balls out like seth it tough for people to relate. i can't remember why but wink inc's waiting game did something in AK that made it amazing i forget what.


also, while aiming at gnar is cool, i don't think that shoudl be your main direction. your main direction should be the oft-used cliche of combining park and big mountain. thats what have been the best segs in my opinion. whether it be dash (really underrated seg btw), sage and MAB in anomaly, andy and pep (pep took it easy this year) in ski porn, or pollard in msp. but although msp shoots pollard, he turns around and edits it in pull better than they did....what the fuck? how does that happen?

MSP makes movies that cater to anyone that loves skiing. If you're a park rat you can watch Simon, Sammy, Tj, and Jon with the dopest Follows EVER (excluding Jon Hatveit... maybe) by Colby West. You can even watch Abma and Hjorliefson do tricks off park jumps too big for most people on this site before they slay the fuck out of shit that most kids on this site would need mountain rescue to get them out of.

sexpreditor: you made a whole thread about how sweet it is that simon still kills it in the park... then you (and many other people) talk shit about how MSP makes watered down movies for the older crowd which according to you means people over 20. which includes simon (and many others)

ha dude older crowd MABYE = like 28+ in park skiing, look at your average park, atleast here the average age is probably 23 or so, im 18 and people call me a grom and shit, so do you suddenly get old once you turn 20? sammy is like 19 i think so in a year is he gonna be the older crowd?
people are in their peak physical condition at around 22-28 depending on the person and after that is when your body starts going down hill cause your getting older so yeah, shit i cant even grow a mustache or bierd yet i just get fuzz, alot of people cant even when they are 20.

I think to be considered the older crowd you've got to be like 25 or 30.
