Eff off switch ups!!

i know skiers will never be par to snowboarders on rails, but we should try and become more creative with our rail variations. switch ups are good, but they are played out and seen too much. more presses, approaches, and new tricks should be tried on rails.

i think a good long nose press should beat out a couple switch ups in a rail comp.

dude your right. we should be doing back flips and shit. and like handplants on the rails. ohh yeah some ssx tricky shit to. we can take off our skis and twirl them around and then put them back on and cork 810 off. sweet

I agree that a long nose press should beat out a switchup but nobody does real nosepresses. Unless the rail is well in front of the boot it doesn't count. Most people call it a nosepress if their toes are over the rail.

same here. rockered skis will help with some of them but it's still gonna be almost impossible for skiers to do some of the things snowboarders can do. Having only one point you can control on the ski where as snowboarders have 2 on their board makes a differece. They can lift one leg and press with the other. I guess we could try pointing our toes though that might work

To be honest, I don't care if kids keep doing so many switch ups and spinning, because I never will, and I'll continue to do tricks that I think are cool, which will never mean excessive spinning.

Someday they'll figure out that these tricks are lame, and stop.

For the record, I don't think switch-ups are cool. As well, a typical switch up to 270 out or "crown" should never win a rail jam (unless there isn't sufficient competition, duh!).

Fraser just about said it.

Nose and tail presses are wonderful! Although I feel you might as well just stick to doing 270 on danish 450s if you force your press and lean hard. Presses should look just like your typical slides, having your hands dragging on the rail and your body slumped over like your doing some sort of Octofuckdriver doesn't help you do nice presses. If you force your style on typical slides too, stop reading.

You could even do something different than your typical everyday press (gasp!). I can't give you any examples though, my agent doesn't want the secret to get out.

how many times have you actualy seen a snowboarder do a 270 on and stop them selves... and then stop them selves enough to go off the there way? snowboarders dont have the inside edject that you would use to pretzle.

^ because i hate when kids jump on a box and do 5000 switch ups on a box that is 10ft long, it looks retarted. Sure if you 270 on the swup and 270 is cool but so gay when repeded. I just dont dig that steez. I'd much rather perfer some steezed out nose press or tail press.

only 2 or 3 of those photos are legitmate presses. i do agree with your body positioning. of course there is going to be some leaning of the body, but if you're hunched over with your asshole poking out and your hands dragging, then i hope you consider a different body form.

there are plenty of options people haven't explored and lots that people are already doing. i enjoy watching shots of skiers do handrails, but doesn't it become monotonous when all they are doing is sliding a rail with either a spin on or off?

i don't think he means he just wants to slide rails regular. he wants to try other things than a million switchups.

stopping your momentum and rotating the other way is tech, but if switchups/pretzels/etc is all you can do then it takes away from the trick.

mhmm! As a close friend of mine once put it (er, along the lines of), "I don't think I've ever seen a nosepress I liked. They should have as little lean as possible, if not none at all."

Well I just went out and jibbed the kiddie parks at stratton and had so much fun just trying different things. doing like hand drag slides on boxes, I did a 270 on switch up 270 off but put a shifty in the 270 off. some handdrag 360s off of knuckles, 180 tap the side of a wall ride, that kinda thing's so much fun I love it.

I saw some guy do 270 on, 2 switchups then pretzel 270 off of a flat box that was acctually pretty impressive but it's just not really my thing

snowboarders coined the term pretzeling. go watch any snowboard film and i'm sure you'll see it numerous times or keep your eyes open while shredding the park and i hope a local snowbro guy dude man can enlighten you on their skills.

I agree with the whole nose presses and tail presses being mad steeze. But there's so much tech to switch ups, just spinning in the same direction on a box/rail is horrible but doing 2 in, blind switch up, to pretzel out is just the techiest shit ever and has to worked on. And the only people who actual get impressed by it are people who tried it and saw the effort it takes to stomp those tricks.

See the same applies for me when i watch snowboards, no matter the shit they do im never impress (obviously there are exceptions) cause i can't see the difficulty in the tricks cause i've never tried it.

he doesn't do one switch up, yet he still manages to do several different tricks on down rails. i'm not saying switch ups are gay, sometimes they can look ok, but i do know that with those two skis on your feet you can come up with a lot more stuff than just spinning. also nollies, switch, fakie, anyone?

your logic confuses me.
i have never tried to sail across the ocean solo so i can't think what they're doing requires any skill. those voyages will never impress me until i try it. in fact i think i'm going to go try that tomorrow. then i'll report back to you how easy it is.

i see your point. i think your aforementioned trick is tech and would make for a good shot in a video. but my point is more that switch ups are becoming played out because they are done way too much. switch ups should be a standard for rails, but i hope that people can start to see that there are plenty more options out there.

Ya, never thought of it like that. But what i meant is that once you try something you get alot more impressed seeing someone else do it.

And as for trying 'new stuff', it's either a question of going bigger (360, switch ups. disasters for example) or just trying something different like butter 2 in, and presses. but switch ups will never be 'played out'. this debate is going in cercles .
