i just got done reading it. or at least have 3 chapters to go. really you could go either way. Huck travels down the mississipi river with an escaped slave named Jim. he's tom sawyer's aunt's slave. but the whole reason they say its racist is because jim is portrayed as an ignorant stubborn person who can barely speak. some say thats why its a racist book. the other side is that huck thinks jim is just a n****r, nothing else. but learns throughout the book that jim is a good man. there are points in the book where huck could have given up jim as an escaped slave but he doesn't because he has become friends with jim. at one point he says if i go to hell if i help jim, then i'll go to hell. or something like that. but huck starts to see jim as a friend and almost a father figure. because hucks dad is a drunk and beats him. so thats how you could say jim is portrayed as a good man. hopefully that helps a little. i had nothing to do. also chech
www.sparknotes.com they'll probably have something good on it
