Injuries??

I have been skiing for about 11 years, and the only major injury I got was my achilles tendon 4 times (coming down on a flat landing, and can't walk normally for about 3 weeks). I consider myself pretty lucky, what kind of injuries have other people had??

none.. since my local resort dont have real snow.. juss one trail open w/ fake snow, and crusty ice crap at the bottom of the lift.. but all my 8 yrs.. so far... bruises,cracked finger.. that's it.

i think i had some of the most damn injuries u can have...

I had a problem with my knee... that really hurts and i can feel it every day if i go skiing... ( made 540 and lost my ski --- so I land bad on it)

broken collarbone, dislocated thumb, broken thumb (the thumbs were from the same jump) concussion, broken wrist, and numerous bruises. its mostly from cliffs and backcountry not park

Your collarbone is one of the easiest to break so if you land on something hard right on the back of your shoulder that should do the trick. Well thats what mine did.

both my shoulders are dislocated one is a month old and the other is 2 days old.  I plan on skiing tomorrow with two slings and no arms

R Plika debridement - Walking by day 2, no problems whatsoever.

Sept 2003
R ACL reconstruct (had a medial femoral condial divot aswell) - Crutches for 8 weeks, skiing at 10 months. Knee brace for full year after.

March 2006
L Acl reconstruct, mcl 3rd degree - Walking day 2, 120 degrees flexion and full extension by 24hours, biking day 3, 140 degrees flexion by 6 days...

AND THEN...

It was infected with Staphylococcus Epidermis from frostbite resulting from an ice pack they forgot in PAR for an hour while I was still out. The bacteria tracked up through the burn blister.

April 2006
x2 arthroscopic surgeries to flush the infection, 2 weeks in hospital and 8 weeks of IV x3 daily vancomycin infusions at home, I was walking at 4 weeks out of hospital, but didn't really leave bed/house for the next 2 months.

Skiing/training in Chile by August, lots of pain, my muscles had wasted to almost nothing. Inability to control isocentric contractions, and wearing brace.

Sept 2006
Arthroscopic surgery to clean up miniscal tear and synoveum overgrowth due to agitation and overuse from skiing and training too hard, and irritation from residual infection.

Went to Push premier at the Roundhouse in Whistler 1h 15m after getting out of hospital, 2 hours after getting out of the OR, only to realize that blood was running down my leg and it wasn't infact spilt beer from someone else.

Off crutches by the next morning.

Dec 2006
Arthroscopic surgery to clean up adema in femur, fracture in lateral femoral condile, and torn miniscus and lateral condile articular surface. 3cm grade 4 divot or Crator as my surgeron refers to the fractured surface in the end of my femur, yay! Crutches for 3 days, biking by day 3, was in gym doing upper the day after surgery, just got into the squat rack today at 2 weeks post op. Skiing by day 7 without brace. Still experiencing lots of pain from the adema in the marrow, I'm on arthrotec 75m x2 daily for swelling, but I've got full flex, and mobility since there was no damage to the structural integrity of the knee.


There's all... 7 of them I think. Apparently I'll have total knee replacements by 35-40.

OH! Those were just my knees, I didn't even mention my dislocated Sacro-illiac joint, or discloated T4/T5, and multiple concussions, along with stress fractured ribs, I could go on... but then I'd just be whining about minor cuts and torn up face.

umm ok, dislocated shoulder. dislocated thumb. hitting my tumb on my binding and breaking through the finger nail and ski so i could see the bone. concussion. bruise on my leg that went from my hip to mid calf from decking a quarterpipe. hyper-extended knee. shinbang. cuts on my face from where my goggles broke.

mine are not solely related to skiing, in fact most are at least partially from Rugby, but starting from the feet
Broken toes on both feet,
Fucked up bone in my foot,
tore all the tendons in my right ankle,
Seperated my Right Calf Muscle (same time as above)
strained Right ACL and MCL
Complete tears of Left ACL and MCL, four seperate tears to Meniscus
Broken Ribs
Broken knuckles, fingers, bottom part of thumb,
Left Shoulder seperated 3 times,
Right Shoulder seperated 6 times, went in for surgery but declined as i would only get 80% mobility (subluxes almost weekly now)
Tore Tendon in neck
and finally several concussions.  Oh and the obvious scrapes, snow burn, stiches and black eyes. 

I think im near the top so far, im sorry for the person above with all the surgeries though that would suck, however it seems a lot of them were just shitty luck from the infection.

Last season just over a year ago now I partially tore my ACL. Didn't get it checked out. Then crashed again and fully tore it, tore my medial meniscus, built up a shitload of cartilage, wore a hole in the bone etc.
Finally got surgery this summer on it, but I skied the rest of the season. Got orthoscopic surgery, crutches for two weeks, skiing at six months but my one leg is still 1.5cm smaller than the other.
I'm just slowly coming back in now. It was lame though, I started talking about how I was due for a good crash since I'd never had one. Definitely fucked myself over on that one.

Even now I can't fully extend my knee because of too much built up cartilage and getting screwed over between several physios.

here u go

in 1997 while racing on the pro tour (speed skiing) I went down 100 meters above the timing eye which is 100 meters long. I exited the trap @ 200kmh (128mph) which means I went down @ well over 135mph. Couldnt see see straight for 2 months and was purple from my shoulder to my ankle from friction burns.

skier cross so concussed i am now silly

as a kid I broke my leg racing

at 17 I was in a downhil event and hooked an edge and wrapped myself around a tree breaking several ribs

2 operations on left knee

last season doosey random accident 3 broken bones, blown out knee, destroyed shoulder which has taken 2 surgeries to repair

and I still throw down in the park...oldest phucker u'll see spinnin yo

ok so im about to hit my first big jumps this weekend like 40 footers and 40+ footers. Ive straight aired them a bunch but now iwanna try 5s and 7s. Whats the most common injury will i get or will i just get bruised when i fall usually. (obviously ppl get hurt on these but i mean under normal circumstances what usually happens?) Like if i land back seat on a jump this big will i get hurt?
