Working out after stopping

Alright so last year I used to work out a lot because it was one of my classes, personal fitness. I got lazy over the summer and stopped. I noticed the other day (and after my jeans ripped) that I've been gaining a lot of weight and I really want to get back in shape. I'm going to make a committment to go swimming more (I can go for free at my work) and start lifting weights again. I did the weights for the first time in 7 months. I have never experienced so much pain from working out in my life. It didn't hurt nearly this much when I started last year. Just wondering is it normal to hurt this much if you stopped working out for a while then picked it up again? Like hurt more than your first time?

obviously. after like 6 months of not working out, your muscles become much weaker so if you just suddenly start lifting the weights you lifted when you had better muscles, they will get a lot more tired. no pain no gain.

Definitely man. I didn't lift for a while after soccer and then started benching a lot. My chest was super sore. I need to get motivated again in the winter I don't usually lift so much because skiing kills me. Yes though, it is normal.

I work out like every other day. I got that thing Chuck Norris promotes and I just started at the way top but with few reps. Now I do like 30 reps of 3 arm exercises. A good motive for me is anger but find yourself a motive and stick with it. And find some good music to work out too. My motive being anger I like to listen to some heavy shit when im working out

yeah when you take a break for working out, you're muscles get sore again because of lactic acid fermentation (thats when your food molecules release energy from producing a chemical called "ATP" becaues there's not enough oxygen)... aka you're not producing as much oxygen as you used to.
so when you start working out again, just start off small and work your way up big.. and drink more water than usual, it will help give you more energy, after a week or two you should be back to normal.
defiantly don't start off where you left off a year ago, because you'll prolly end up pulling muscles. which you might have done if it hurts that badly

on top of what everyone has already said, because they're right, remember to stretch. seriously. you'd be surprised how helpful stretching is. don't be afraid to dedicate a long time to stretching for the first while. i mean it's good to always keep up your stretches but i understand that many people find it boring.

stretch and realize your not going to be picking up where you left off, it will take awhile to work back up to what you were when you stopped.
and pain is your friend, soreness means your gettin a workout, glutamine after work outs helps your muscles recover faster, aswell as other shit but i dont wanna explain.

haha fucking richard simmons. dude was on "whos line is it anyway" one time and he cried cause he got invited to the show. Then he did some stretches and his balls fell outta his shorts and the whole audience saw em.

Your recovery time will speed up so much after the first time. 2nd time you won't hurt for nearly as long

if it hurts for a long time eat a lot of proteins, im sure you know how. but i wouldnt nescessarily downsize, if you can do reps then its fine. just like i said no pain no gain. you want pain, because you have to tear that muscle up. by the way, dont lift when your arms are sore, sometimes mine can be sore all week and not lift. you gotta give your muscles a break sometimes.

once you lift for about a week, start taking anator p70. its $80 a jar, but has alot of portions. is completely legal and safe. its a muscle gene activator that turns on the genes that build muscle faster and shuts off the controls at a safe, but intense level

yeah its not unusual because that happened to me 2 because we r lifting for football right now so like the first week u will be incredibly sore but jus eat lots of bananas and drink lots of water and the soreness will start going away the more often u lift.
