you could try and go somewhere in the middle. if you can afford it then you could just take a few classes and still have lots of time for skiing. but ya, college is probably a good idea and it sucks to think how much school is left, but I hope it will be better than high school
think about where you may get in life without college. of course there are exceptions where people have done great without college but look at the odds. compare the most likely outcomes, w/ college or w/o college then choose.
college is a lot different than highschool. There is more work, but way more freedom. School can be fun sometimes in college, but sometimes it can make you think about the easy way out (suicide). Next week is finals week for me so I'm in the suicidal point of my college career. But if you go just make sure you choose something that you want to do to study.
you could go to college for an easy degree like event planning or something. you could learn how to market, advertise, set up skiing events. you could study the essentials to putting on these events and even make some yourself. do something with skiing i guess. just thinking here...
Im 17, and my advice is to go to college. Sure your sick of school and all that bullshit, but think about it, the work you do in college is based on everything you learned in school. Except this time it actually counts towards something in your life. If you go to college, you can get away from your parents and your hometown, and go out on your own and develop the person that you really are, without all the pressure and ifluences of home life. The teachers won't be on your back all the time, but that means its all up to you to get the work done. College will be one of the best times of your life. If you go to the right school, you can have a fair balance of work, party and skiing. On top of college being a good time and all, once your out your almost guarenteed a better job than a non high school graduate, depending on how motivated you are.
Evan, you're a retard. You have better grades than me. So go to college and ski. Aka Utah- you can come be my roomie in 2 years. Plus, do you see what grades you need to get in? Not too good. 18 is the average on the ACTs. I got a 30. and you know that steve will flip his lid if you don't go to college. Now go get a straw.... and suck it up.
go to a 2 year college at least. construction is a good feild to go into. its estimated that 75% of all construction workers will retire in the next 5 years. with a 2 year degree you can be a superviser and make up to 65,000 a year. Or ski and work at a mountain all winter and work construction in the summer. or pick another feild like that or something. at least go to a 2 year community college is what i say.
go to college for a year and see if its for you. im at university now and sometimes i have to ask what im doing here. i could start one of my dad's side businesses and do perfectly well for myself, but i think the experience and the maturing process has been the most important for me. there is a lot of things at college that you learn that lectures can't teach you. a lot of things you learn about yourself. i think i just went to university because i thought i had too. don't think like that.
im torn as well so what i think im deciding on is just following a college major that interests me...most likely golf couse management or something then after ill do that and get a job in the winter at a place where there is both ex.whistler so i can golf in summer and just ski in winter...and get by off of what i do.....i dont know about you but thats my ideal life
seems like these threads come up alot. the answer is YES. skiing is pretty damn expensive, how do you plan on paying for all that skiing without a college level career? in this world, a college education is even more necessary. if you're pissed off about high school, tough, we all are. college will be a completely different experience, don't miss out on it just because you're pissed at high school and just want to ski. go to a place like UVM where you can go skiing alot, and still get an education. get a good education and a good job, then you can take exotic skiing trips.
if you dont go to college, your parents should pay for someone elses college tuiton because there are so many kids who dont get to just chose whether or not they want to go, and would kill to be able to go to a college.
dude, I'm in the same situation as you. I really don't like skool, and would rather go skiing every single day. but I went to college anyway, it turned out to be chill, cause nobody cares. you can not go to class, you can pick what classes you take and when you take them, and the party and girl scene is practically worth it just for that. The only thing is money, if your parents will pay, go, its just more time you can chill instead of have to work and ski around you work schedule...
just take a few years off. honestly i have not had any college class connect with anything i learned in high school (save for math). better yet, go to community college which have lighter class loads and are flexible as far as scheduling is concerned.
You've got years ahead of you to work, but the opportunity to go to college is a narrow window, closing more each year you get older. Yes, you can go to college when you're older, but it's just different. My suggestion would be to try it out. Go to a community college, schedule easy classes, study hard, party, ski, and have a good time. College is the first step to a good career (IMO) that can support expensive addictions (like skiing).
Go to college. I'm sure everyone on here would love to be a pro skier but odds of that happening are against all of us. College will allow you to have the opportunity to actually make money, have a career, etc but you can still ski and have fun. College is so much fun-yes there is a lot of work but there is a ton of freedom too. I recommend it.
oh yeah, I deferred admission for next year so I already got into the college I want to go to, yet I have a year to do pretty much whatever I want. I hated high school so much that I needed to take some time off, I don't see any reason to rush into college if you really don't want to yet.
dont listen to these assholes. when people say things like "look at the outcome of someone who has finished college and someone who hasnt", well you tell that asshole to go to a town like banff, or nelson and see how happy the general population is, most of em are just doing jobs to make ends meet but are having the mosr fun they can in life. do you what you feel is right.
thats what people think. people have been trained to think that if you go to college, you'll be a millionair, and if you don't, you'll sell crack on the streets. that's not how it goes. you guys saying,"think about your future man!!!" SHUT THE FUCK UP. you guys sound like your in for a fun life, working from 6 am to 5 pm at a fuckin desk job. why not just pick a fun job and make just enough to get by. and whoever that dumb ass was that said "college will help you for the rest of your life but you'd rather spend your time skiing!" you're damn right i would. ill do whatever it takes just to spend everyday i can on the mountain. thats what will make you happy in the end. but hey, if you wanna live your life on a 9 - 5 schedule and die, go for it. all i know is that when im on my death bed, i won't be able to count the number of days ive skiied, and all the fun i had just living my fucking life.
these threads always show up this time of year. find what works for you and DO IT! i opted not to go to U of U and UC Boulder because i knew i would miss lectures for skiing. now i only miss lectures for hangovers.
i was gona do the whole skiing all the time thing but then i worked at a fast pace resteraunt with grumpy managers and weird annoying people and relized this is not the place i want to work for the rest of my life. you cant get anywhere without an education, at least for backup. plus..learning is fun!
