prices of ski eqipipment are rising and rising by the day, but when will it be too much? with rising housing prices and passes costing more and more how much longer will people be able to spend $400+ for a good jacket and $150+ for googles? it seems everyones becoming very materialistic and wanting to have brand new equiptment every year. Ski companies are not helping very much either increasing there prices so they make huge profits and generaly milk people for all they have. How much is too much?
i think a rule of thumb is that you schould never pay more then 1500$ for you whole set up. I just get all my shit off of here, or the net in general. I buy last year's/older stuff. Just because its not brand new doesn't mean its shitty.
nah, I don't agree with the $1500 thing. I mean. A decent pair of boots (arguably the most important part of the setup) is $400
Then you'll end up paying at least $400 for a pair of skis (fujative or invaders) but if you want anything with better performance then you'll end up paying closer to $600.
Then we've got bindings which go for $200. Which leaves you anywhere from 500 to 300 for a jacket, pants, goggles and a helmet. I'm talking canadian dollars.
well for ski equipment you just have to know where to look. You might have to get used stuff but its all good, expecially when I have to pay for all my own shit.
From Ski Swap/ ebay
- 03 169 Fujatives w/ Marker 1400 comp bindings - slightly used = $220
- 02 Line Skogens w/ look p15 bindings - brand new/ used = $225
From Sports Authority
- Bonfire Cargo Snowpants - 10,000mm - brand new = $50
- Green Quiksilver Jacket - 10,000mm - Brand new = $65
From misc.
- Perfect fitting Atomic ski boots - Brand new = $100
- 1 pink pole, 1 black pole = Stolen (dont tell anyone though :)
From SAC - brand new
- Anti-freeze aframes w/ fire iridium lense = $40
- White Camo Electric EG1's w/ orange chrom lense = $40
- giro 9 helmet = $45
Total = about $785
And thats about 2 seasons of buying shit so you just gotta look around for deals instead of paying full retail at the stores. End and beggining of season are def good times to look around.
Yeah who would actually buy shit at full price? I refuse to buy any ski equipment at full price and never have. You just have to look around, especially online and you will usually find a great deal.
hmm,
skis-400
bindings-150-long/short term
poles-free
goggles-100-long term
gloves-70
boots-400-long term
coat-200
pants-200-long term
i think thats 1520$ canadian but the long term stuff can last more than a season so lets say 2 seasons thats 1095$, and as for coats and pants being so cheap i just got pants for 150 with 28 000mm you just gotta look. i dont think that too different that from 5 years ago, prob more. skiing is a sport for rich people
haha suckaz! my jacket for this year cost me 3 dollars at Goodwill. It's a Duke letter jacket its fuckin dope. i also just acquired for free a burton jacket that someone left at my house from a party and hasnt claimed.
shit's expensive cause dumbasses feel they "need" new trendy clothing and are willing to pay outrageous prices.since when does new expensive ski clothing make you a better skier?
werd up, i buy all my hardware used, i only buy like new helmets/gloves/hats/outerwear. but i also got a clearance deal for $140 boot sthat are normally $400, so that saved cash, i buy all my skis and bindings used and im not a gear whore.
Some days its really nice to have good waterproofing but i agree you can find good quality stuff for cheap if you look hard enough, I dont think I've ever paid full price for anything but im going to for skis this year.
well the thing is you shouldnt go out to buy everything all at once. Get some things new and some used/older. Keep a eye out for good deals and it wont cost you so much
I buy all my outerwear on sale (my jacket and pants were $185 total), but I do spend a lot of money on skis, bindings, and boots. Those are what really matter so I get what I want regardless of what it costs. I can understand how a ski can cost $900, but a $400 jacket is just stupid. That won't make you ski better.
the thing is that skiing/snowboarding consists mostly of upper middle class/wealthy kids so if oakley is puts the price tag for $350 on a jacket and we want it bad enough, we'll buy it and this is what the companys know. until everyone boycotts buying their products, which wouldnt happen, they will just keep selling their outerwear for ridiculously high prices because THEY CAN
its that simple
but I just dropped another $500 on new pants and a jacket so i cant really talk
All of my ski equipment or outerwear is either last years or the year before that. I almost bought some of this year's skis, but couldn't justify the extra $100 for a ski whose construction remained the same. Ebay, SAC and gear swaps here and at TGR are the way to go. For example, I got some THA 187s for $399 at Getboards.com and I got some FKS 185 to go with the skis for $150 (used but in immaculate condition). That's $550 for new skis and bindings. I've noticed that patience plays a huge role in what you buy. Don't jump on every deal you see. There will always be something better out there, guaranteed.
