Ban carry on items.
We made a temporary security fix by renforcing cockpit doors after 9'11. But the terrorists have adapted and come up with a new plan to attack the west (liquid explosives). And now we need to take security even more seriously and ban on carry on items.
Before you object think about what you actually use of all the stuff you put in your carry on bag and all the stuff you put in thinking it might be used. Maybe a book? Which can easily be carried. Your mp3/ipod can easily be put in your pocket. A sweatshirt or jacket can be tied around the waist or thrown over a should. And all the snacks you could ever need are for sale in the terminal area.
Main reason why
1. The seurity screaning is not as effective as we like to think. Its just not possible for the screeners to accuratly scan every bag. While we like to think it is we all know that humans are prone to fatigue, lack of intrest, and error . Given the massive amount of items they process each day a few "errors" have to be made. Especially since almost anything can be used as a weapon in the right hands. you can even do some serious damage with a rolled up newspaper.
2. An independent organization was hired to "test" the effectiveness of the airport screenings and they reported they were able to enter the secure area of the airport with potential leathal weapons via carry on bags.
It would be a minor inconvenience but it would do three main things.
1. Security check point lines would be greatly reduced. meaning the two hour buffer time you need for international flights could be reduced. Reducing the lines will make fewer people late for there flgihts meaing planes leave on time more often.
2. More importantly the terrorists are going to have a MUCH harder time bringing a bomb, weapon, or an imaginary bomb to scare the ocupants of the plane into following their demands.
3. reducing the amount of things terrorists can bring on a plane makes it that much harder for them acomplish there goals.

an ipod or cell phone can be a detenator (sp?) for bombs in checked luggage. They should be banned, along with laptops.

I'm glad you're willing to bend over and give up even more for the sake of airport security. What about the people that do business on the airplane on laptops and such? You know the people you'd be fucking over if this were to happen. Such a fucking stupid proposition and I don't know why anyone would agree to it.

well if they do that then airlines better let more cargo on planes. when i few they only let me have to small suitcases to cargo so i had a duffle bag and a dakine bag with me on the plane it sucked. they wanted to charge me 300 to put the duffle bag in cargo. the whole industry needs to be reworked

Everything's about planes planes planes. Just wait, soon you will see terrorists get smarter and start bombing bridges and tunnels. This will have a much greater impact on the US than any plane bombing. Imagine Oakland and San Fransisco divided for months. People couldn't get to work. Commerce would be devastated in the area.

before I would fly without a carry on I want to be sure that my luggage will end up where I am. I will never check my ski boots or any thing over $500 on a plane there is just to much of a chance that I will never see it agian. As for airport securaty I think it is the biggest wast of money we have. I am preety sur I could get a leathel weapon on to the plain, a bomb would be even easyer. even with out a carry on. It would take a very tight securaty to make sure nothing got on. Basicaly they would have to make it so that no one had nay privacy or rights once they were in an airport. And it does not end with airplanes cars can be used to park a van full of exsplosives and park it in a gerage under a building or next to one you could even drive the car into the building then blow it up. You really can't win a battle against terrorist with securaty. You have to be smarter then them and know more then them and know what they know, really it is an info war.

the problem is that takes a lot more planning and a substantial amount of substance such as explosives. The advantage to a plane is that 1) it generally carries a lot of people 2) they are easy to take down. 3) they invoke a pissload of fear in people, and 4) it is a major transportation connection (billions of people pass through airports every year).
Aside from that, terrorists do attack more than just planes. Two metro bombings in Europe (London and the larger one in Madrid) fucked up some stuff, the attack in India, and hundreds of others over the years. What sets this recent plot aside is the scale of it.

When I travel I want to have my expensive stuff with me. I don't want my laptop, my video camera, my still camera, my iPod in a bag that has a really good chance of getting lost. Not to mention I like having stuff to do on the plane like homework too. And food in airports is always more expensive than anything else.
That being said I think I could go without my laptop and video camera on trips if I really needed to. I could spend some extra money on food or just not eat as much. Security is a little more important than me watching movies or playing a game on the flight.

no. Im sorry, but its a pain in the ass to check bags. Especially when I fly to michigan and I just have some homemowrk in ym bookbag I want to take up and do on the flight. Way too many freedoms are being taken away for the sake of security. Banning liquids is fine.
But it would take a hell of a lot of explosives to take bridges down. It would take something like 9-11 for that, possibly more cause they are built so well. subways are the weakest point unfortunately. No security at all at least in atlanta, and I haven't seen much anywhere else. You can do anything on subways.

as if i'm going to check my laptop regardless of whether I'm using it or not. The cost of the laptop aside, there's a lot of work on it and a lot of other very valuable information. I want a guarantee that i'll have it when I touch down and the only guarantee is that if I know it's right above my head and I put it there.
Same goes for gifts. I've seen these guys toss things around on the tarmac and watched things fall off their trucks.
plus pack essential clothes in your carryon so that if your luggage is lost, you're not stuck in a hotel with no clothes or luggage to transport your clothes if you return before your shit is delivered to you.

they could potentially do what they were gonna do again without carry on luggage. they could put all the chemicals in their non narry on luggage, and have something like an ipod shaped thing to cause all the chemichals ot mix, and booyah same thing happeneing

so only good solution is everybody go on naked.

but then they could swallow condoms full of explosives chemicals and then poop it out and detonate it in the toilet with a battery that they also swallowed

ski boots are the best things to smuggle shit on with. My dad and I were in the airport heading home from UTah, and my dad realized he forgot to put his pocket knife in his luggage which was already checked. So the stubborn old fart insisted on slipping it in the boot liner in between the shell. It worked flawlessly, because all the metal buckles and stuff hide the metal knife on the xray machine. Its a good thing most terrorists have never seen a ski boot.
