Most money in skiing comes from contests, salary, and photo/comp incentive. Biggest ski companies will usually pay out a base salary of $15 - 20,000 and photo and comp incentive varies. Biggest comps, x-games for example pay out $25,000 for first and a lot of the time sponsors will match that. Thats a $50,000 day. All told, a pro at the top level can make a few hundred thousand a year. Pros at the lower levels make peanuts. It will be interesting to see where things will go with bigger sponsors, Target for example, slowly coming to the ski scene.
