College and Parents

So I have two older siblings, brother and sister, that are very smart and both went to great colleges (middlebury and bates respectively).
Now I am ending my junior year in high school and am starting to look at colleges. Im not very smart and don't take challenging courses. I try very hard in the regular classes and do decently but not nearly as well as my brother and sister. They also were extremely bright and didnt have to put any effort in throughout high school but managed to get into all great schools.
Unfortuantely my parents dont understand my situation. All they do is indirectly compare me to my bro and sis. They tell me that if I don't do better, they won't send me to a college of my choice if its very expensive. My hopefuly choices are schools like providence, uconn, uvm and such and i can probably get into those but to my parents its not enough.
Now what really pisses me off is what happened today. I tell my parents taht I got a 70 on a math test that i studied really hard for and met with my tutor twice for the test. my mom flipped out and said that ill be going to Eastern or central connecticut if im lucky...if you dont know these schools -- they are very easy schools to get into (1000 Sat) and are not what i am looking for at all. They say that its not worth their money to send me to the schools that I want to get into and that if theya re going to spend the money, they want me to go to prestigious liberal art schools and such. I understand that its their money, but they shouldnt not let me go where i want to when my sis and bro tried just as hard as me and got to go whereever they pleased. is it just me, or are my parents being extremely unfair?

They just want you to do well, as your siblings have done. They have high expectations because they know you are capable of doing well. It may seem like tough love, but they just want the best for you.

call their bluff. for the rest of the year, pull nothing better than a D+ on all your assignments. you might not get into college but you can record your mom screaming her head off at you on video and post it on here and we can all have a good laugh

yeah they arent being too fair, they should send you to a college that you really want to go to, becuase you will probably try harder if you are there because you will be happier.

you'll be fine. i know it can be hard to be in the shadow of a sibling and especially hard if there are two but truely, as long as you work as hard as you can and do your best, you will end up at a place you're satisfied with. it seems like you are doing this but i suppose it can be frustrating for parents with 2 kids that school comes really easy to and one that it doesnt. i think your parents are just frustrated and trying to motivate you to finish the year strong. when push comes to shove next year, i doubt you will go anyplace besides where you really want to, especially if its the best school you got into. your parents will be proud of you. seriously next year is when it all pays off. i am finishing up my senior year and this has been a blast. those whow worked hard and didnt dick around too much in high school finally are on top. just stick with it and it will pay off. your parents will come around.

yea man, that's what im hoping they're trying to do. ive talked to my bro and sis and they both thing that they are just trying to motivate me, and it has actually worked cause i hate having my parents pissed at me.

im in really high classes but i am far too lazy to give a shit about college at this age. and i know that im gonna regret it in two years. but i guess i just got to get my shit together for next year when i ama junior

Your Parents sound like douchebags comparing you to your older siblings, and its not really fair. but they just want you to do well, even thou they are being fucking douches about it they trying to help you. And just remember you will never get them to admit that they are being hard one you. So just take it like a man for one more year and you will be done with them.

well that sounds very vert similar to my story. i have a bro at dartmouth and one at connecticut college. im the stupid one and im not as good at sports as they are. i feel your pain man. my rents give me the same talk every day. you're obviously bright enough to describe your situation to us. Therefore I'm assuming you're not "dumb". If you want to get into a good college. do decent on the SATs and write a solid essay encompassing YOU. If you want to get something done and prove your parents wrong, just do it. and laugh at them inside after.

i live in groton. and to dr. tubestied. my parents give me that same shit about how how many opportunities im giving up

and im not saying im "dumb" cause i did well on SATs but I just can't seem to get above a B average in regular classes no matter how hard i try

my brother who's extremeley samrt went to UVM its a great school

my problem though is the reverse of urs im in 8'th grade and have a B average but my little brother whos in 6'th is super smart and hes in the same math class as me and is doing better and my parents give me shit about that

your parents are not being fair at all. I think that as long as you are trying your hardest, your parents should appreciate that and realize that you are not your brother or sister, that you are you, and I bet you're a hell of a lot better than them at other things...people have different strengths. i'd talk to them at tell them how it makes you feel when they compare you to your siblings

that sucks, i hate that, my parents are the same way, i have no school smarts at all, and ive been trying really hard lately to get c's. but they compare me to my younger sister who gets all a's.

just dont go to college, or go to a sweet place like cmc and ski all the time, people who dont do well in school are usually the type of people who dont need alot of money and success and all that crap.

true. college can wait a year or two. you will be better prepared and more likely to suceed if you take some time off and really find out what you want to do with your life.
