Park vs. Big Mountain

This is my two cents on a topic I am starting to see more and more of lately. No offense is meant to anybody in any way by what I say here, so please dont take any of this the wrong way. I am only trying to prove a point.

There is currently a thread that has a line in it saying essentially this: Park skiers are never good skiers. These people need to pull there head out of thier ass and look at a map. A lot of skiers are blessed with huge mountains and endless terrain on which to ski. Some of us, like those in the midwest, are stuck with smaller hills, man made snow, and absolutly no powder to speak of. I'm getting sick of people telling me that a person who only skis park can never be good. Some of us simply cant go anywhere else to ski, so we make do with what we can. People need to face the fact that not everybody can ski any kind of terrain on any given day. The unfortunate occurence of being born in a place like hte midwest shouldnt mean you cant be a good skier. There are two totally different sports going on here, most of us would ski powder if we could, but we cant. Somebody explain to me how skiing park makes you bad. Its the exact same thing as me saying if you ski powder you suck ass at skiing and should quit. We love skiing and we make do with what we have, why do we suck just because of that? In my opinion it takes a greater love for the sport to ski here and stick with it then if you had a big mountain. Give us a fucking break, we're skiers to.

This should not have made it to page two. My point, in a nutshell, is that it shouldnt matter. You can be good either way. So what if park skiers cant ski big mountain or the other way around. So what to about everything I saw posted here. It's so simple people, we are all skiers, we all have strong and weak points, I just dont see why this is worth a big argument.

Maybe park skiers cant rip the whole fuckin mountain. As I said, there is some truth to anything you can say here. Its not worth argueing over. Most people that ski only park do it because thats all they have to ski. Would you rather they reace? They love the sport as much as anybody.

no i was saying people in the east and midwest feel like they dont have other terrain than the park, so they choose only to ski park.

Skiing park I don't think is the problem I think that the attitude from some of the kids that only ski park. They believe becasue they have the "new steeze" for next year and they know some rock star thru a friend of a friend. There is also kids that only ski park and can't link more than two turns like a real skier. Freestyle is still a new sport and I think that the kids who can ski out side the jumping and land part will get phazed out and become an after thought. This also leeds into my second point. Most people that say park skier aren't skiers are spewing a little truth. To put this in example a baseball player that can waylay a baseball but can't field a ball to save his life won't make it as a pro ( excluding the AL and the DH-that isn't baseball in it true form) We want to skier that can actually ski and can show that the roots of the sport are imbedded in tommorows youth. Snowboarding although unique and stylish in its own way has lost some its soul with many kids fighting the big mountian side of the sport.Most big mountian skiers don't hate the park, they hate the attitude that spews douch bag from every pore when this kids ride park when the rest of the mountian is open and covered in fresh snow. I have had friends who left when the gnarlest part of the mountian was open with two feet of fresh becasue "the park was too slow" The park is something that has its high points but skiing should be the general point that unites us as a community

i prefer park over big mountain but thats only because im too fuckin terrified of cliffs, heights, and avalanches. but i think it shouldn't be "vs." because if skiers had the opportunity to ski both i think they would.

yeah alot of park kids have a gay attitude, but then so do alot of other skiers. thats probably the one thing i dont like about park is that most people have to be assholes all the time. but its awsome when its a good day and everyone is being cool.
i dont see why people think park skier are so bad out of the park, if you think about it park skiers are better than like 95% of other skiers on the mountain, cause you do have to sometimes go really fast into jumps, and thats alot faster than most skiers can handle, plus your hitting a jump, spinning, and landing. i guess it depends on what you call a skier, cause most the people on the mountain go like twice a year and i wouldnt call them skiers.
there is no question though, big mountain skiers are better "skiers" than park skiers. park skiers are better "freestyle skiers" i guess.

There is no defensible arguement for park being better. It is that simple. With the opportunity for both, big mountain trumps park everytime.

REMEMBER THIS THOUGH- The heart and soul of skiing lies not in a specific genre of skiing, but in the love of the sport that we all hold so deeply.

We all have our own opinions. I don't care if it is park, big mountain, racing, bumps, WHATEVER. It is the love of the sport that holds everything together. It is a unitarian religion of sorts.

And as for me, you don't need to ask what I will ski on a given day. I'm V-Crew.

Poor form is not only in the eyes of people, it is a real thing, if you look at alot of todays park skiers, they are full of bad habits, they drop their hands, they let thier body rotate with the turn, they slide on a turn, half can not ski on edge, again these are all things you learn not to do in racing, (ask any person who has raced they will tell you that it has immproved their skiing immensly). Well back to the bad form, when you are in the park alot of these bad habits do not severly hinder your abbility to preform, yet go into the big mountain or powder sceane and you WILL GET ABSULUTLY DYSTROYED. these things just kill you, I dont care if you ski that little hill in the midwest for 95% of the time, chances are that you are a 14-18 yearold and your family will go on a skiing vacation once a year to whistler/colorado/utah/BC interior/california. Here you will not want to only ski in the park you will go into the real mountains, You will get your ass kicked if you do not no how to ski. do a few groomers once a week at your home mountain and work on your form (ight upper body, arms up ext.) one of the worst examples of not knowing how to really ski is tanner hall, (he has gotten alot better now that he does more of it) but when he first started to go out of the park he dropped his arms and this led to his body going into the turn which would keep him from flowing turn to turn. So basicaly what I am saying is living in the midwest is no excuse to not know how to ski.

i can have good form when i try like in powder and stuff, but i really dont give a shit about groomers, they are boring as hell, so i guess i dont see a point to have good form when i can get down just as fast without it.

i just said you should talk-which you shouldnt have, and i wouldve though youd stop with your stupid comments. but YOU were the one who came back and claimed i didnt know shit about what you knew, when if fact i knew more aout you that you knew about you.

you claim you ski mammoth, so what do you do? ski park all day. never venture into the chutes or trees? and if you cant have good form on the groomed, you cant have good form anywhere. period.

i hope to god you dont come back and try to tell me im wrong again, cause i really dont want to have to comment in this thread again.
