"plus I live downtown, not in pc where the mormon influence is much more dramatic"
Standard English, really, you're insinuating there's a bigger influence in PC than SLC in that sentence. Learn how to use a comma.
As far as beer and cigarettes go, you're correct in all your stats. But wait:
In pennsylvania you cannot buy beer at ANY convience store (including grocery stores), you have to buy it at a bar.
In Virginia and Maryland (only two I'm sure of) you can only buy beer until 12am, 1 hour sooner than Utah.
Also, did you know in Park City you can buy beer at 7-11 24 hours a day??? Find me another state that has THAT option.
My point is this, every state has it's own idiosyncrasies that we have to deal with regarding alcohal and cigarettes. Some are better than others. The only reason Utah's are made so public, is because of how fucking weird Mormons are. But when you take a look at the big picture, it's not bad at all.
And there are plenty of states (republican or democrat) where you have to be 21 to work at a gas station. Didn't know that was your chosen profession anyway.
And the reason Mexicans are moving here is because of how FUCKING CLOSE WE ARE TO MEXICO!!! Look at any state in the West (Arizona, Nevada, NM, Cali, Utah, Colorado) and tell me there isn't a HUGE Latino population. Live out East for a while you'll see the difference. What this has to do with stupid Moromns, I have no idea. Seems like you have an issue with minorities to me.
And as far as Utah being a Republican state, you're right, it is. And yes, most Mormons are Republican, this gives the church a ginormous tax break. My original point was that in the last 2 decades, we've made HUGE strides in changing the political platform in this state. Starting from schools, to council members, all the way to the Mayor's office. Nothing in politics happens overnight, my man, but it's getting, already is, better.
Your original statements are mis-leading as to what life is really like in Utah. This is a phenominal place to live. Unless your a single-minded person (which you seem to be) who cannot get over the fact that there is some weird, cult-ish religion based out of this state, when really, you can only find this "influence" if you go looking for it.
