I raced with ski culb vail for 4 years and Im a really good all around skier. I absolutely hate it when kids say "I HATE RACERS". when people say that they are basically saying "im a park rat who cant ski for shit"!!!!. Im appreciate people who do moguls though cuz moguls are sweet and they make you good, but lets hear some comments.

im a racer and i cant stand other racers, most of the ones ive met are bitchy, they think they are too good for the mountain and think that people should part to let them on the lift line.

yeah, people associate racing with the kids who are obsessed with their school's team and are really competative and aggressive. But i race, and a bunch of my friends race and its just a fun way to challenge ourselves. And we ski the park and all mountain too, not just run the course.

yea I agree, I also hate it when other racers think they are the best, I mean racing makes you really good at skiing, but you shouldnt feel like you're the best after doing it.

a lot of the racers at our mountain idolize the freeskiers, they all want to quit and join the park rats (us)

exactly, i do it to hang out with cool people that rip. i have so much fun just hanging out with the people that it makes it worth it to smash gates for a day.

Ya I race on a side thing for my school, I enjoy it because its something else to do then just stay in the park, Ya but I hate when hardcore racers think they are the shit when they see us in the park

i used to race....and i miss it..


but when i was a racer i barely skied park..i did...but not a lot..my parents mad me stop and it deff helped me become a much better all around skier..


and i my rents made me stop...casue we are poor..and its a rich mans sport..especially people that do it for fun...for the most part..

I used to race and i wasnt that great at speeding through gates so all the other racers thought they were way better than me and then we would go down a steep line with a cliff and some powder and I would leave them in the dust and they wouldn't know what to say, so they would immediately revert to saying I sucked at racing. Same thing would happen in the park. For this reason and many others, I quit racing, and really dont like most racers.

I raced in college - UC Boulder

and it was insane, the level of fitness and drive you need to compete on a division one team was crazy. But I got to race Super G and GS on some of the nations best courses. I only stayed on the team for two years...the early morning stadium stair runs in august got to me.

I was distracted from racing when I caught a ride to summit country one day with some guys who were some big-mountain "free skier" up n commers who also attended or lived near UCB when I was there (one of them has some crazy new reverse camber planks and another used to have a pro-model from k2)...soon after I was entering IFSA events rather than NCAA events...but the foundation of balance and skills I learned from racing helped me immensly...

don't be so quick to hate on racing, it just shows complete and utter ignorance about your knowledge of our sport.

i wish i could have raced as a kid because i probly would be way better than i am i would just look better i think.

but i totally agree some racers are just ass holes who think there better because they have 10 pairs of skis and have a trail to themselves.

but thats an opinion

you dont have to race to be good, i never liked it, so stricted... you can just hang out in the slopes and push yourself... i ski alot of slopes to get comfortable in high speed. ( mostly ski them switch tough)

i never raced when i was little like everyone else, i just had fun and skied until i didnt want to anymore....

i went to a race in alberta wit my sis, and i was riding the park, and when the whislter racers were done racing thye threw on there twin tips, man they can ski park very well, fuckin sick rippers, but im not a fan of wearing spandex so pretty much why i quit ahah but i do miss the trips

word, i used to race and i cant imagine skiing without the training, the whole reason that i started to ski was because i wanted to go fast, and now i ski a lot of park and i kinda lost that feeling, and its fun to take urself to the next level with your friends and not have to worry about throwing switch 10's to be cool

waynewong nailed it. I used to race, didn't even get to FIS, but the skills I learned helped my freeskiing so much. You can tell just by looking at someone's turning if they have raced before.

when skier-x first started up, I was invited to compete at telluride for the first x-games...It was nuts, x world cup racers from europe, huge herman meir types with way to much muscle...

mad respect to those who know...going 100+++kph is pretty dam fun

i personally have no problem wit racers. like any sport there are always gonna b the kids who r cocky and dicks, but we find that not only in racing but also in freestyle. but the majority of racers r fine

better a park rat than a n00b in tight pants. i mean park rats are better at (1) rails (2) jumps (3) pipe) (4) urban than racers while racers are better at (1) goin fast (2) skiing better. but i guess whatever floats your boat and what you have fun doing. i just dont see how you can have fun racing when the only progression is beating your previous time by .304150159 seconds. progression in park skiing is endless

there is a big diffrence between going fast and going fast in gates. i hate most of the kids i race with they are cockey as hell. but the best racers i know are pretty good in the park so they kinda complament eachother
