Rollerblading is linked to skiing

Im tired of all these kids on this site copying skateboarders in every way. one of the things that bothers me the most is the kids who hate on rollerblading.
im not talking about rollerblading as in grinding and arials or skiing in terms of Newschool skiing im talking about rollerblading as a whole and skiing as a whole.
My mom went out with a professional skier (racer) for 4 years and I was lucky enough to spend over 100 days on the slopes a year. and I did learn some stuff from him when it came to skiing such as training techniques and all that. and you know what when we wernt skiing on slopes or skiing on glaciers we were ROLLERBLADING and do you know why? because Rollerblading is the closest thing to downhill skiing.
now thats for racing. and some people are going to argue that newschool skiing is not like newschool rollerblading and I call bullshit on that. the grinds are the same (with a few more on the rollerblading side. and when you land on rollerblades which are less than a foot it works the same muscles you use to land on 6 foot planks of wood.
the fact that doing all those tricks on rollerblades is so much harder to land makes it that much easier on skis

in europe they do grass skiing in the summer which is basically like a roller blade but with a bulldoser like track instead of wheels
thats the closest in my opinion plus you actually use real ski boots

Well, there's lots of threads on this site where people talk about their extreme constipation and a prepubescent juvenile from Georgia named ATLANTASKI, so I would learn not to take people too seriously here.

freestyle skiing and rollerblading are two completely different styles. skiing is meant to be stylish and smooth, where as rollerblading isn't so smooth all the time. you are right that rollerblading is the closest thing to skiing, but not freestyle skiing. everything you see pros do really originated from snowboarding. they were the first freestylers and i always watch their style and use it while skiing. thats why freestyle skiing like skateboarding, because its got the same stylish idea as freestyle skiing.

I'm with t-man on this, how is freestyle skiing not similar to rollerblading? you grind the same, you spin the same, you stand the same, it's the same damn thing. now all you skateboarders tell me how you think that skiing is more tied to a sport that focuses on kick tricks and snowboard grinds

t-man, the only people that hate on rollerblading are the idiots or lil kids on this site. I agree with what you said, as do most of the more mature members on newschoolers.

thats just how i feel. i always look at skateboarding and snowboarding because i love their style. i don't really admire the way rollerbladers look when they're doing what they do. thats just my personal opinion, so you can disagree if you'd like.

and i bet you had the sickest pencil steeze ever. same goes with skiing you can go and just huck something and maybe land it but if it looks shitty then no one cares what you just did. so great you can do a shitty looking 900 on blades how bout you take some time to make it look good i bet things will get a little trickier there. im also willing to bet money that you cant actually do a 900 at all on blades.

im SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tired of all this rollerblade crap. the bottom line, is yes, skiing and rollerblading are linked, simply by design. if you dont see that, your fucking blind. i personally dig rollerblade stuff, especially the pro level shit. why yeah, some stuff may be easier (i have a hard ass time trying to blade), it just allows them to do more rediculous stuff. if youve never seen a rolelerblade movie, like a real one, you would be blown away by it. it makes skiing look stupid, its so tech.
i personally am a huge fan of trying to develope some of the tricks (obviously the grinds), and take them to snow. riders like gaigner and chrichton really push this stuff, and i think it has the possibility to be amazing.
if you personally do not like the style of ridding, and would like to link your ridding with snowboarding, feel free. thats what makes this sport great. they dont call it freeskiing for nothing. i personally however, would never ignore such a valid influence, as it has the possiblity to really open doors in the skiing world. while most tricks have been done on jumps, the world or rails is still fairly untapped.

I have never participated in any of the 500 threads on this subject matter, but I think now is about the time.
I think the major problem (and cause of arguement) that is occuring is that roller bladers aren't "smooth and steezy" like we as skiers are trying to be. Now I don't follow roller blading all the much, but I can say that while 65% of skaters are very technical and fast, there is another 35% that consists of skaters that are very smooth and flowing. Instead of looking at Skiing vs. roller blading as a whole, we need to take bits and pieces from both snowboarding and roller blading.
In my opinion, skiing is made up of 60% snowboarding and 40% roller blading. So therefore (base on my opinion) we are more similar to snowboarding... but that doesn't mean we don't have a lot to learn from roller blading.
As mentioned, the grinds (as we call them slides) are almost identical. And if you look at pro skiiers, namely the D-structure crew, you'll find that a lot of them take up roller blading when not on the slopes. And the guys who are regarded as being the best at rails, are the ones you'll find blading. Iannick B and charles owns at rails... and guess what they also roller blade. And I'm sure blading a lot is hella good for your quads. That will definitely help landing jumps, and skiing in general.
So in conclusion, skiing style is most similar to snowboarding... but there are many other aspects that fall roller blading. So call it gay all you want... but you have 40% of your skiing that can be worked on with roller blades.

nobody said that if you race, you should roller blade too. I simply said that roller blading couldn't possibly hurt someones skiing. And it has shown to improve certain aspects.
-----------------------------------------
I sure as hell don't want to look like a rollerblader when I ski. But it doesn't hurt to be open minded about similarities between the two. This goes beyond to whether you think rollerblading is gay or not. Personally I don't care for it much either.
I'm the kind of guy who can't afford to go to ski camp or anything like that over the summer, or make any trips out west at all for the matter. One summer I found a used pair of agressive inline skates in the newspaper, and bought them for $30. Well I didn't go down to the skate park or anything to use them, i simply just put my back yard rail in my parents driveway and did it over and over again... worked on: rail stance, overall style, 270 on, 270 off, switch ups etc. Sure enough when december rolled around last year I was doing all of that stuff I worked on, by my 2nd day on the slopes. So I won't call myself a rollerblader, but I did learn and progress from rollerblading, but I try to immatate snowboarders as much as I can for style. Be closed minded all you want, but it surely helped me with some aspects.

okay I'll just give you some background first.. I've been rollerblading for about 9-10 years, I've competed in two Xgames and I've been riding pro for company's for the last 4 years. right now I work at a ski resort and I've been snowboarding for about 4 years.
first off I totally agree that skiing style is more like snowboarding. when was the last time you saw a rollerblader in snow pants, a huge puffy, goggles, and a beanie?
when you say rollerblading isn't smooth and stylish, that's because your not seeing the right people. you could say that about any sport... like skiing.. when I'm working I see a bunch of ugly pencil 360's, some crap jibs, little kids doing 50/50's.. ugly not smooth or stylish skiing.. but then I watch a ski video or go out with some of my friends that rip and I see smooth stylish skiing. I'll admit there are some well known pro rollerbladers with the sketchiest style ever... but I do not agree with that kind of skating.. but style does differ from person to person, some smooth and tech, some go big and sketch, and some have smooth tech and big. I'm sure it's the same in skiing
the similarities between rollerblading and skiing are endless.. same tricks different names.. we go fakie.. you go switch.. rollerblading does every grab and spin you do except some of the nose and tail grabs.
I enjoy watching both or any "freestyle" sport for that matter, as long as the rider is smooth and solid!
