ski companies make skis to function properly at the mid sole mark. The sidecut is designed around that line. If you move the binding more than a cm or two infront of that line. the whole turning radius of the ski is thrown off and will not turn properly. As for sliding rails.. well the ski is balanced at that midsole mark and if you slide rails under foot you shouldnt have any problems.
