...is to inform people about the sponsors for the 06 US Open, something that the people competing in it might care about, and also to spread the word that people from Pennsylvania who cant spell Subject right like penis, cant ski and should leave threads like this because you are never going to the open unless its the US open of beet farming you hick...
The fact that SKIING is trying to get into the newschool market gives me a real kick. These guys are tools and should stick to writing about how wonderfully chic Aspen is instead of trying to host the Open. SKIING magazine is bad for newschool.
I must agree... theres nothing that this magazine can offer us. Their target market definitly is more like 30-40 year old guys who drive their kids to the race trainings every week end...
ok, so, the sponsors were wrong, so great help that is. subjekt is a reference, not an error, and i go to COLLEGE in pennsylvania, at a school most of you fools will never be able to enter, and until i see the name matt walker on the pdoium of the US Open, i dont give a fuck about your skiing, or relation to the comp at all, but thanks. oh yea, and ive never eaten or probobly even touched a beet in my ife.
Im not here to start some shit but without two individuals who work at Skiing Mag, the US Open would be gone. These two individuals believe in the movement and where skiing needs to go so dont call them tools.
If you dont like the mag dont read it, who cares!!!
Just hope the OPEN makes it to its tenth anniversary next year.
Wrong dude, Freeze was owned by Time Warner and they own Ski and Skiing as well. Freeze never made a ton of money on ad sales and I bet they lost money hosting the Open every year. The people at Skiing can bring in bigger sponsors and, as someone else mentioned, without Skiing Mag the event would probably be gone, so deal with it.
hahahaha u cannot talk shit to matt walker. considering ur icopn is a checkerboard pink and black. you definitly suck ass compared to matt. props for going to college thoguh!
didn't Skiing Magazine sponsor it last year? there was quite the downgrade with the athlete tent too...water and tortilla chips instead of red bull and cape cod chips, yay!
but its at vail, and all the coyotes and gapers will be there watching and spending money saying "that was a cool triple helicopter going backwards!" and then they get to read skiing on the flight home.
I can tell you the reason that there was no "red bull and cape cod chips" is that the Open was almost dropped along with Freeze last year and it is was pieced together in about 2 weeks which in reality is not a lot of time to put together an event ot comp of its magnitude.
THis year you can expect a much better athelete lounge with X-Box 360's, better prizes...not just $$$ purse for the winners, better party's for the kiddies!
IT will be a good time and let the coyotes and gapers come and spend money cause if mommmy and daddy didnt pay how would half of the competitors get there???
My opinion skiing isn't a bad magazine at all. It reaches soo many more people the freeze ever did (not to hate on freeze at all) and they're beginning to print more stuff on freeride rather than whatever it is they used to (maybe they always have and i'm just a dumbass). But anyway, I don't know what they did to help save this comp, but it seems without them we wouldn't be having the open at all anymore. So huge props to skiing for helping all of us out.
Very true my man, it's good to still have the Open around but my general experience with the SKIING editorial staff has been very disappointing... i simply don't think that this magazine sees skiing the way that I and many of my peers do and I don't want SKIING to misrepresent my sport. I'm sure there are good individuals in that office and hopefully they'll be able to pull off the Open well - and maybe give their mag a facelift and a soul while they're at it.
I read an issue of Skiing Mag the other day, and Kamikaze is completely right. There is no soul or feel to the magazine when you read it like there used to be in Freeze, or how there is now in Freeskier and Powder, and K2 Skeeze, even though that's more of 100 page ad.
if you don't want skiing magazine to misrepresent your sport, then why didn't freeskier become the title sponsor of the open? im sure bradford fayfield and his $7000ish full page advertisements of GMC trucks and gates gloves could afford it...
it's good that SKIING took over for the open. that mag's content is including freeskiing more and more. it will be interesting to see how much press they give their own event. if they really can reach more people than more respect is what the event will pull.
also, it's great to see xbox as a sponsor... maybe someday we'll be able to have a choice when it comes to buying ski video games.
