Get out! K2 and camisoles at Evo

I'm not what you would call an "outdoorsy" girl. So imagine my surprise — nay, delight — when I wandered into the new Evo in Fremont and I actually wanted to shop. (That never happens at, say, REI.)
Sure, there's snowboards and ski gear and brands I have no use for, like K2 and Salomon and Ride. But I also found denim skirts and lacy camisoles and cute hoodies. What?
"Everybody I know skis and snowboards, but they also love music, they love art, they love fashion. It's more of a lifestyle," said Bryce Phillips, 28, a professional skier-cum-entrepreneur. "It's a mix of product together under one roof. ... You're not going to find $130 jeans at REI."
The renovated 10,000-square-foot space — formerly home to a showroom for chicken fryers and ice-cream makers (love it!) — includes a small art gallery, mezzanine-level performance space and seriously funky lighting in the bathrooms. Phillips (overachiever) envisions a retail space that doubles as a venue for concerts, photo exhibits and even independent film premieres.
"There's good music to listen to, art to look at, stuff to buy," he said. "We're open to anything."
Evo is open daily at 122 N.W. 36th St. (206-973-4470,
