Hey. I have been thinking about organizing a competition for this season. I want to hold a slopestyle/rail jam type of comp at Big Sky towards the end of the season, maybe in March so its a little warmer. I want to put together like a serious big comp. Like have a ton of people show up and just have it be awesome. Im not sure how this would go over though. Do you think we could get enough people to come to make it worth it? I wouldn't want to do a ton of work and spend tons of money if no one came. The course would be sick too. I want to build a stair set for the first feature and use some stuff Big Sky already has. There would also be a rail jam with some more basic rails that would allow for some more technical tricks. Anybody have any ideas? Do you think it would work? If we spread the word around we could get people from Missoula and all over MT and possibly CO and UT? It would totally be an all day deal with the comp in the morning, then the rail jam, then an awards banquet/after party. If anyone has any ideas or wants to help with this we could set up something super sick. let me know what you think. If its gonna happen I have to start planning. I already have a ton of ideas that i dont want to say in case it does happen.
Yeah, Big Sky has already got some sick stuff planned.
Dec.17 -- RUST, Rails under Stars Rail Jam -- contest returns to the Mountain Village this winter, featuring the areas best riders. Features will once again be in the Plaza area next to the Snowcrest Lodge. A party in a nearby Mountain Mall bar to follow
Feb. 4 -- Slopestyle Comp (should be sick)
Feb. 19,26,March 5, -- geared to the locals, but open to anyone, this event is a series of three weekend events. Weekly prizes will be awarded with grand prizes awarded on the third Sunday for the best overall performance.
These comps will be good, but the more the better.
yeah i would definatly clear it with big sky. i want to call it the rasta session and have like rasta flags on all the take off's and have bad ass reggae dub music playing the whole time. it would be sweet. yeah those last three on the calender are just pipe jams. there is really only 1 slopestyle i think. but i want to set up the rail section like the orage masters course. just perfectly. and the rail sectino would be up during the whole event so people can hit it even if they aren't competeing.
insurance could be a killer, if you are organizing or sponsoring your own competition, they expect you to get your own insurance for it and that it some huge cash
Yeah I called Big Sky the other day and the lady i needed to talk to wasn't in. My idea of a big comp is like something that I would get sponsors for and if any of them are willing, they can set up tents with product info and stuff. Also maybe donate shit for product toss/prizes. Another idea that im not sure has been done before was to have most of the comp filmed and then have some kind of after party right after the comp. while the parties going on someone could do a really quick edit of the first, second and third place finisher's runs. then towards the end of the party there would be awards and they would show the winning runs again. kinda like a video highlight. I dont know. We had this thing in MN a couple years ago and there were tons of sponsor tents and stuff. the rasta thing was just an idea, i thought it would be tight if there was a theme to bring it all together. the park would have to be closed for a day but not really because most people would prolly compete and it would be cool to just chill at the event with everyone. its just one day.
ah so your from MN that explains some things. But really it sounds like a good idea man, it does, but in this situation you have to think very realisticly big sky doesnt really have the reputation of backing up the customers who go there, they are just there to make money it seems sometimes.
I talked w/ some shops and they are willing to give gear for prizes, I will work on Big Sky, if you call and ask they will tell you to go suck a dick, I'll see what I can do.
