last night some of our soccer team went to this girls house...there was prob around 40 people there and one of the kids had to leave...everyone had been drinking and this kid that had to leave needed a ride home...my friend offered him a ride but he wanted to come back to the party at this point he wasn't really drunk so he begged me to go with him and keep him company so he would have a better chance of not screwing up so like a fucking moron i agreed and i brought the kid home with him so we got back to the party and the shit was almost gone so i drank a shitload of stuff too fast and fell asleep about 30 mins later so i fell asleep upstairs with one of the girls from the party and today i got probably the worst call ive ever had it turned out my friend left and he fucking got in an accident and by the time i had been called he had died now im sitting here and i don;t know what to do and i wish i could have just fucking stopped him and took his keys i feel so guilty that i could have saved his life and ive never been so fucking sad im usually a stoic when it comes to these things but i feel like this was partially my fault now a kids never gonna finish high school and the kid i've known for over 8 years is just gone im sorry i just can;t eeven talk about this anymore i just had to get this shit of my chest

Sorry to hear about your friend.

Some dumb drunk bitch flipped out and wanted to drive the other night. I was passed out and had no idea this was happening, but somehow she obtained her keys. Well, a median and two blown five-way stoplights later, the Albuquerque Police caught her ass and gave her DUI. Fortunately, no one was hurt. If I would have been awake I would have not let her drive, but my friends apparently didn't have the balls to forcibly hault her from driving.

Oh well, hopefully this will teach her a lesson. Everyone in NM who gets a DUI now has to have a breathalizer ingnition lock installed in their vehicle. Oh yeah, and drunk driving is like a favorite pastime here--you have to have at least 8 beers to drive, it's the legal minimum.

It's a shame that some people are so gutless. If it came down to a fistfight between me and a best friend I would stop his bitch ass from driving sloshed.
I'd rather him be knocked out with a broken nose than lying dead on the side of the road

This wasn't ANYone's fault - just a random, terribly shitty thing that happens to certain ppl who take the same risks as other young ppl who never get caught - don't blame yourself or anyone even though it's you, not people on the internet, that will ultimately keep your brain from punishing you.

And remember that the kids trivializing this will have someone in their lives die (everyone eventually does) and will have some of the dumbest shit they've ever said immortalized right here - especially Tanakaskier, one of NS's consistently most useless commentators, who probably laughs along with it all cool when his buddies make fun of asians but deep down inside he's not even angry, he's just thinkin, "I wish I didn't even have any asian in me dude so there wouldn't even BE this problem and I could diss asians and fags all day!"

shut the hell up. he was PASSED OUT. how the hell could he have done anything to help him?

as for the member whos friend passed... im very sorry, just remember it is not your fault at all. a kid in my sisters grade had the same thing happen to him. he drove into a buss (he most likley passed out at the wheel of the car). the only persons fault it was was his, and even so, he was under the influence and couldnt think any better. just remember that you were passed out (if i read correctly), so you could not have helped it.

i'm usually the most sober of my friends when we party mainly because i feel like someone needs to look out for everyone else, but thats just my style.

well I think its your own responsibility to control yourself and the amounts you drink. If you have to be watched over by your best friends not to do something like that, you are too immature to drink. Its nice to do that for your friends, but you cannot rely on other ppl to save you from your own mistakes in life.
Im very sorry for you, who lost a dear friend, but you are definetely not the least bit responsible for this, your friend made his own bad decision, and that is the unique reason that leaded him to his death.

Honestly I don't even know what could possibly be said to make you feel better. I get the impression from your posts that it hasn't really set in yet. The only thing you can do is live on. i dont disagree that it was the kids own fault for not knowing his limits. everyone is responsible for their own actions. i just realize not all of my friends know their limits so i do the best i can to watch over them, but thats just me.
