Athlon 64 vs. P4 w/ HT

64 bit is the future of computers,
Altheons is excellent according to some pc tv shows, and the say that Pentium is delaying theirs cause
the Pentium 4 newer version has lots of problem issues on 64 bit.

You can do it, if you try, if not oh well, then do somthing else!

Athalon all the way. more band for your buck then intel everytime. the only issue with them is if for some reason (it would be pretty damn hard) is if you had a heating issue with yoru case. they do produce more heat, but it would be hard to run into that problem. also go with ati. nvidia is more expensive.

No comments on the ATI vs. NVidia thing except that if you EVER plan on running any Linux flavor or FreeBSD you want NVidia cards. Despite NVidia's closed source drivers, I've installed about 20 open source os's w/them and never a problem getting OpenGL acceleration working. ATI on the other hand doesn't always keep their drivers up to date, etc. It's sad and annoying all at the same time.

The Athlon 64 bit architecture is what AMD's pushing hard right now. There was no native commercial 64 bit OS (major OS anyway so I'm thinking just windows) until yesterday. You can probably grab I think it was XP 64 or 2k3 64 off newsgroups, but other than that Microsoft isn't selling it as a retail product unless you personally request it on a new PC. This is b/c it's probably not fully tested and there will be some driver insanity.

actually, that's not true. It's been in release client forms and to developers writing drivers, but that's about it. to get it (minus the normal, illegal channels) you had to apply up until last monday to be one of the testers. Unless you can buy it for a machine from a manufacturer or in a retail box, I wouldn't consider it released.

Definitely go for the 64 bit.

athlon 64 is where its at... you'll be able to keep that processor a full 6 mothns more than a regular one! =)
