The TTC (Toronto Transit) has decided to go on strike. When I lived in Ottawa and the public transit went on stike, it just meant that there was sunday service 24/7. Here it means that there's ZERO service, so 1.4M people who rely on the TTC are left stranded. In light of all this, despite the fact that my school is a commuter school (some people come from as far away as a 1h drive), they've said that classes and exams are to remain as scheduled. That means people like me have to rollerblade to school a treck that would normally take 45 minutes on public transport. I just want to thank the municipal government, the TTC union, and Ryerson University for caring. It really does mean a lot to me. ASSHOLES!

aha, rollerblade! but really that sucks... Biking isnt so big of a deal is it? ACtually nevermind, accross the city Im sure it is.

my friends are in the same postion as you.. have to get from ryerson to pickering.. and they normally take the ttc..

I would bike, but my bike is at my parents place in Ottawa.

As much as I hate the situation I'm in, there's a lot of people who live twice as far away from school as I do. I think most of them do have some access to a car though. There's a lot of people getting fucked over by this. Reuters tells me that 1.4M people take the TTC every day. This is really fucked up.

Hey,last semester the bus system went on strike. I had to get up at 5am to get to school because my dad had to drive me.I liva an hour away from my school.

As much as rollerblading is a joke in xtreme sports, I think it's completely viable for commuting and exercise. I don't have aggro blades (thank god). It's much faster than walking and much more portable than biking. If I biked to school and I whored myself out for a ride home, I'd have to leave my bike downtown. Rollerblades on the other hand I can easily take in any car with me.

Jay, it's a bit different up here, since we live in a country that actually gives a flying fuck about hockey. Practically everybody I know owns at least one pair of blades and has been playing street hockey since age 6.

Good point. I never thought of it like that. Maybe because half my friends are coloured or not Canadian born and don't care much for hockey. It does make sense though.
