the other day i dl'd a file off kazaa (dumb) and it wanted to install a licence, so i daid ok (really freaking retarded)
now my homepage is stuck as www.hotsearchbar.com , i cant change it because it changes back after i log off.
also, and more annoyingly, instead of going to the normal 404 http not found page, it goes to some porno site.
ive deleted all windows media licences, cleared my history, deleted cookies, temporary net files and vet'ed the whole computer, yet still the bastard links remain. anybody know how i can fix this/ where the files are hidden so i can delete them?

Well friend, firstly, as you correctly stated you're a fucking retard, as was I was when this happened to my computer.

What you have is a browser hijacker. It is a trojan that now most likely resides in HKEY registry. Don't fuck with that you do not want to fool around in there if you don't know what you're doing.

Take these actions IMMEDIATELY:

I don't know too much about computers but try this.
Download Cwshredder from here http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popup-Ad-Spyware-Blockers/CWShredder.shtml and also Ad-Aware SE Personal from here.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

Update both of them and then run them (I would start with Cwshredder) and it should take care of it. If that doesn't work, your problem is worse than I know how to fix.

No, cwshredder takes care of browser hijackers. I guess it would help if you had norton or something, but Cwshredder and adaware should take care of it on their own.

Sorry, I suck @ teh k3yboard.

Here are the actions you should take:

1.) Install Mozilla Firefox. Have a friend send the install file to you via AIM or MSN since your Web broswers is fuct a la madre.

2.) Once you have Firefox, you will be able to access the Web without the Trojan sticking its large, wooden cock in your ass. Now download AdAware SE, Avast, and SpyBot Search and Destroy. These programs will remove all the minor and medium level files slowing down your computer and tracking your previous Web browsing activity.

IMPORTANT: None of these programs will remove the TROJAN from you computer. They will remove the SPYWARE and other minor and medium level files, etc. SO in order to minimize the damage the TROJAN can do to you (continue to step 3)

3.) COMPLETELY DISABLE INTERNET EXPLORER. Go into your settings a make sure Internet Explorer NEVER runs again. This will reinitiate the cycle of computer assraping that you're currently enduring. In addition never use Microsoft Email clients.

4.) Stop using Kazaa and other insecure file sharing programs. Buy your music or find a secure program like SoulSeek or LimeWire, although these are not fool proof either.

5.) If all else fails, BURN YOUR HARD DRIVE. This will erase all your shit so make sure you try everything else first. Reinstall your Windows Platform and you'll be virus clear.

yeah i already had VET and zonealarm installed, i just installed adaware, CWShredder & spysubtract. no more shit: woot.
i doubt i'll be using kazaa in a hurry. and before anybody points out that i may deserve crap for ripping off peoples stuff, i only use kazaa once i can't find what i want anywhere else (eg. snow porn)

I have Ad aware SE and McAfee and I still have problems with pop ups to stupid smilyface(emotions) and ringtones crap, and my webpage keeps getting changed from Newschoolers.com to some searchbar site........any suggestions? oh and i get some random ringtones icon on my desktop and a bunch of random things end up in my favorites list....its really annoying.

the problem is that norton/mcafee probably won't pick it up. They both have some utilities for catching spyware/adware but they aren't that efficient.

They are designed for picking up viruses. Technically, you do not have a virus since a virus does malicious things to your computer without your consent.. and by you clicking the yes, you gave the spyware consent. (it was probably in the real small fineprint).

If you have windows xp, I reccomend picking up microsoft's new beta anti-spyware program. It has one of the largest databases and does one of the best jobs. It picks up alot of things that even spybot/adaware don't.

You can download it by going to microsoft.com and then go to downloads.

surprisingly, yes. It picks up alot that both spybot/adware miss. Also, another nice part about the program is that you can set it on a schedule to scan and remove all spyware at a certain time of day.. and you can also tell it to run in the background so you don't even have to see anything while it's cleaning.

That program combined with security task manager (it shows you every single program/process running on your computer and lets you force it to never open it again) - extremely powerful program.

Both those combined and you are unstoppable.

Well seeing as this is what i do for my job we use 3 programs to remove almost all of the spyware we encounter. adaware, spybot and a tool called hijack-this. Anything that is labeled as a BHO (browser helper object) you can remove. now hijack this is a powerful tool and can do damage to your system. you have to be very careful with what you choose to remove, if you arent sure what exactly it is look it up in google to see. It is a very nice program to help optimize your comp
