Audi 90 vs. Outback

ok, so i have two cars to choose from right now. the first is a 1995 Audi 90 CS Sport w/ quattro. It is black, with black leather inside, heated seats, and a bunch of other nice stuff. it has 84,000 miles on it. It is also a 5-speed manual. The other would be a 1997 Subaru Outback with 98,000 miles on it. it is an automatic, but that doesn't really matter. The outback is about $2000 more than the audi. The audi's trunk is pretty small, but it is a really sweet car. The outback wouldn't be as fun to drive around, but it is a wagon so it would be better would skiing and stuff. what car do you think i should get?

Get the outback my dad has a brand new one..
its sooooo wicked and drives sooo nice
and they are really low maintanince and wicked on gas...

i would say get the audi as well. however there are a few more things to consider. the audi is probably going to be more on insurance and may cast more when the time comes for repairs. however it will probably hold it's long term resale value better.

actually, the subarus seems to hold their value much much better. the audis resale value pretty much sucks. also the parts will be more expensive when they break on the audi. it is just a matter of which car will break less. i donno, the audi is just a sick sick car.

i agree that the parts will be more expensive, i had already mentioned that.

your comment on the resale value peaked my curiosity, so i just did some quick research.

although i couldn't find any audis of the type/model you're looking at i did find a bunch for sale and compared them to outbacks of the same year.

the average price of a 1995 audi A4/A6 quattro with 120,000+ kilometers is about $17,000 cdn. the average price of an outback of the same year with a comparable amount of mileage is $12-13,000. that's quite a difference. i would also have to say that the quattro drive system is one of, if not the best AWD system around. this makes sense considering audi pioneered the AWD sytem.

don't get me wrong subarus are a great vehicle for the money but in this case if you can afford the audi then get it.

uumm you can't really compare the resale values like that. You have to take into account the purchase price, in which the Audi is a better deal used.

but yeah, big time repair costs to be sure on the audi.

As an owner of a 1997 Subaru Legacy AWD Wagon I would have to say go with the Outback. The subaru has all wheel drive, it drives like a dream and it is also a portable motel. Put the back seats down and bring a sleeping bag & pillow and you have in instant bed man. It's hella sweet for those ski-bum type weekends in the mountains. Another sweet thing is that you can just pop the tailgate and throw all your ski shit on. They kick ass, they are amazing in snow and awesome on gas. Do yourself a favor and go with the subaru, the maintinance is lower. Do you know what it costs to fix an audi... Better be loaded man.

Outback wagon, screw the audi.

wow skodeo, that was really impressing....oh wait I can do better in my 88 jetta. and im not saying that subys arent nice, my mom drives a 2000 outback and it's a nice car, but an outback wagon (or most other wagons for that matter) arent what i consider sweet cars.....the audi is def. a sicker car....

i drive a 2002 subaru WRX, and the thing is badass. The subaru is a shitload better than the audi, however, the audi with the quattro may be a better choice for you with your current funds. Take the $2000 extra you would spend on the subaru, and have the audi engine tuned and cleaned up. Then upgrade the parts that you need, and get a good ski rack.

yes the 02 wrx is badass and the closest thing to it of the 2 would be the audi 90 quattro sport

ok, well i decided to get the audi. so i had my dad bring it to our machanic this morning, and everything was fine except the timing belt and and water pump. so i go back to the dealer and he says he will replace those parts included in the price. so i tell him i will be back at the end of the day to pick the car up. during the day the asshole sold the car to some lady who said she would buy it without having him pay for the parts that needed to be fixed. WHAT THE FUCK?! i'm so pissed at this fucker right now it is unbearable. anyways, now that the audi is gone i will probably end up with the outback, which will probably be better in the long run anyway, including repairs and parts, and hauling crap around. but i still can't believe the guy went behind my back and sold it. that piece of shit..ok, rant over.

ok, I'm the only person you really needed to ask on this. although audi's are kinda cool, i guess, absolutely nothing beats any subaru EVER. if you are a true skier, and drive anything other than a subaru, you don't deserve to be on the mountain. you'll be able to do SOO much more with the scooby, it'll last you absolutely FOREVER (250,000miles or more at LEAST), probably better gas mileage, and more room inside. I drive an Impreza, which is pretty small, but get's me up the mountain in style/speed. and always remember this:

False my 86 audi 4000 cs quattro gets better gas mileage then my moms 95 suby legacy wagon and mine runs off regular as opposed to premium and the quattro is much better then suby awd and audis cost more so women will think you have more money and you can do more mods to the audi
