If you're not familiar, Mik is the GOAT of mogul skiing. He won the silver medal in Sochi, gold in Pyeongchang, has 18 crystal globes, and close to 90 podiums on the world cup circuit.


He is a skier at heart and loves park skiing. We discussed Moguls and the progression/restrictions in that sport and his love for park skiing.

makes us sound like those super hardo music fans who argue over what to call sub-genres of sub-genres that 99.9% of the world couldn't give a shit about. moguls are super dope and their skills are top shelf but uh there's a reason there was a rebellion against that discipline so strong that it birthed the current newschool/freeride discipline

So declaring that there's a premier skiing discipline and it's the one that's on the bump run at the bottom of the mtn just seems like a weird claim to me

3maniaI don't know if any of you listened to the podcast, but Kingsbury is the GOAT of mogul skiing. He actually had some interesting things to say as to how to change the sport to make it more innovative and more like the slopestyle skiing we're more used to. Things like rewarding grabs and spinning both directions, and making the run in to the second air a little longer to make it easier to do crazier airs. Unfortunately the powers that be are slow to change.
I can tell you from personal experience. Back in the 90's I'd sit in these meetings and ask these people why 3 twisters scored the same as a 3 with position. I'm like if they are the same difficulty, why is everyone doing tw/tw/sp instead of spinning? One is obviously more difficult, but if they score the same everyone is going to do the safer trick. Unfortunately the twister fest continued until after Mosley threw that Dinner Roll, but by then the NewSchool had taken over and it was a little to late to save the sport. Sad because it's really the most athletically and technically demanding sport around.

kids nothing will give you a stronger all around skiing background w that proper freestyle/air awareness.... yeah it’s a niche sport and you probably won’t make the Olympic BUT it’s a fantastic foundation for any subsequent Freeride/newschool endeavorz. Do it if you can youngsters!
