This is a photo from last year's U.S. Freeskiing Open, where TJ Schiller stomped an unprecedented switch 1440 to keep his claim on the Big Air title, Corey Vanular and Grete Eliassen cleaned up in slopestyle, and Tanner Hall and Sarah Burke held down the top spots in halfpipe. Needless to say, even after changes both in location (Vail to Copper) and organizer (Freeze to Skiing magazine), the U.S. Open is still the world's best venue for competitive park and pipe skiing, and this year should be no different!Registration for the slopestyle and superpipe competitions will open on December 5 at 5:00pm MST at the official U.S. Freesking Open website, and if previous years are any indication, spots are going to fill quick — so if you're raring to win at the Open, don't be lazy and be ready to register!Best of luck getting a spot — we're looking forward to seeing you there. MORE ON NEWSCHOOLERS
Probably the biggest gathering of comp skiers and snowboarders on the planet, the Laax Open went down this weekend, and the final event was Ski Slopestyle.
With some absolutely mental entries, it was a tough job for our Team Auclair judges and NS staff to cut these down to five in each category. Great work to all who entered and see you next year!
The rest of Switzerland was sunny, but Ullr turned up to watch in Laax today. Nonetheless, the riders threw down and the unique setup made for a great comp.
