Exploring the belly of the country for skatable pipes.
Also, I went to a dozen town meeting and help push for a skate park in our home town. They decided they wanted a skatepark and pulled the trigger in a matter of months. Very cool considering Burlington vermont(my home city) to 16 years to build a wood park.  Way to go-town of Alpine!!!

Interview: Ahmet Dadali, IF3 Best Male Perfomance Win

by Daz_Dilli
Sep 23rd 2010 - 6 comments

I got a chance to chat with Ahmet yesterday about his unexpected win of Best Male Performance at IF3 for his Eye Trip segment and this what he had to say.
SH:  How does it feel to win Best Male Performance at IF3?
AD:  It’s one of the best feelings I’ve had in my ski career man. I use to do competitions when i was way younger and do pretty well at those, and you get real excited when you hear your name for winning one, I felt completely like that but twice as stoked to know what I won haha. It was cool.
SH: When did you find out you were nominated?
AD: Ha ha, I found out when I heard my name being called for winning it! I had no idea I was nominated and I didn’t hear my name when they were say who was at the awards, I just was talking to some homies there and next thing I know I heard my name being called for winning that, so that hit me like whoa!
SH: What was your best trip this past season that helped contribute to your segment?
AD: I would say the Finland trip was one of the real shapers of my segment, The rock tranny I was stoked on the year before when we were out there, that thing turned out being pretty fun. It was crazy with that trip, it started with B-Dog, Wallisch, and Hornbeck. B got hurt right in the beginning unfortunately, but i got a call from Berman one night saying this and to get out to Finland, I had no idea how the hell I’d get out there and Berman gave Under Armour one call. Next thing I knew I was on the next day flight to Finland, Big ups to UA for helping me out so much like that.
SH: What are your plans for this coming season to top your eye trip segment?
AD: I just want to try to bring a different type of skiing to the game. Switch ups can only go so far on rails, we need way more creativity, and its the exact same with backcountry, you can only have so many jumps in your segment until it gets a little repetitive, So I guess just get that creativity going everytime I put on skis and try to use my eyeballs to see different things in both.
SH: What are you up to right now?
AD: I’m chilling in the homeland of NY with all the old homies right now, feelin real good, all of them are super proud of me for getting the award, which is cool to make them feel that way ha. Showin my girlie what NY is about, been doin tons of bass fishing, some hiking, getting them legs swoll for the winter, all that good stuff.
SH: Where are you going to be based out of this winter?
AD: Little home called a 4runner ha, I’m going to be based outta whatever parking lot I’m in. Mostly in colorado I reckon, but I’ll try to be all around. Done paying rent, it’s not fun!..
SH: Any last words?
AD: Oh yeah, Thanks to all the people who walked up to me and said they liked my part in Eye Trip, you have no idea how much that stokes me out. Shout to whole ski crew I grew up with in NY, the I Hate NY crew, who all killed it for best webisode, Traveling Circus, stoked on all them doods and I would honestly like to thank all my sponsors, Under Armour, who has been a huge support for me and never lets me down, the gear is real sick everyones gotta get some. Volkl skis kills it with making the illest skis, Spy Optics, Full tilt Boots, Tall Tee Productions, and lastly keep your eyes open for Biru energy tea, A buddy of mine is making this, tastes way better than any energy drink youve had guranteed, itll be out this year and i should have plenty so if anyone sees me at the mountain just ask to try.

3rd Rail Jam Mt. High

by Daz_Dilli

Last saturday I had the great chance to go judge the 3rd rail jam held at Mt High, Ca. Over 50 kids showed up to show off there jibbing skills. There was a Juniors age group, women, skiers, and the open which had $500 up for grabs. There was a 30 minute heat to make it to finals and kids were going for it, at least 2 kids in every heat hiked 100 yrds up the mtn to attempt to air the kink but maybe needed a little more wax that day. There was a 10 man final for open, winner takes all $$$ and these guys wanted it bad. Ended up with Ians Sams winning $500 in open, there was also $150 for 1st place skier, $150 for women, and $100 for the junior along with plenty of UA gear and other product.
After finals everyone gathered around the bottom for a mini hip hop show were locals who had one to many started dancing and showing that open mic skills.
After the dance sesh and the hip hop everyone headed down to the bottom for awards to get there loot and all there gear. Once awards were over and the day was done everyone who was over 21 headed out to Hollywood for the after party at the Kress where Slick Rick performed for over a good hour, it was amazing. Everyone had a great time, thanks UA for putting on this event I’m sure I speak for all the kids who had fun.

A Little Dicey Out There.

Just the other day while in WY, Kyle and I found a pretty cool looking mini zone. By zone I mean “Place to Snowboard”, After a quick consumption of some calories we started our little mission to get to the top of the zone. Once we started hiking we could tell that the snow had some major instabilities in it, so we had to make sure that we were making good decisions about our hike path. After a good 40 minutes of hiking the tree line to the summit of the zone we were made very aware of how sketchy the conditions are in the backcountry right now. Hopefully some new snow will blanket these mountains and make conditions safer for backcountry travel. Until then we just have to make sure we are on out toes.

Bottomless Pow in Tahoe Last Week!!

by Daz_Dilli

I was sitting in Utah where there was no base and no snow, just basically waiting for something to happen. Our Utah TGR crew started to hear word about how much snow my hometown, and childhood playground, Tahoe was getting. So I made a few phone calls, checked some web site stats, and made the call to get out there. One buddy told me it had snowed two feet in the past 24 hours and it was supposed to snow another foot and a half. We loaded up my truck with our sleds and took off.
We showed up in Tahoe City to huge snow banks and trees caked with fluff. These are good signs that it is deep in the mountains. We crashed in the house where I grew up and rallied to the trailhead early the next morning. There was even more snow than the night before and it was still coming down hard. The snow was so deep we spent most of the day getting our snow machines unstuck. We spent the next few days doing pretty much the same. The snow was bottomless. If you stepped off of your snowmobile you would sink in up to your chest. We were able to hit a little road gap and drop some cliffs, but for the most part, we just had a hard time getting around. The free laps were all time though.
One day a local friend took us to a cabin he had found way out in the backcountry. It was so styled out. It was located in a meadow that was surrounded by two big bowls with every type of terrain feature you could want and imagine. The only problem was that the weather was socked in and dumping and we could hardly see the goods. We ended up hitting some big cliffs and skiing some fun stuff anyway.
We sat in the storm for almost a week waiting for a blue day so we could get some good filming done. Our blue day finally arrived and we went to an amazing zone North of Lake Tahoe. We pulled up to the trail in hopes that the snow had not gotten too warm and gone rotten. Unfortunately, it had done just that. The night before, it had rained all the way up to the high elevations. Every aspect and face had a two-inch crust layer on it. We were bummed. It was sad to see all that beautiful, deep snow go bad. That was when we decided that it was time to head home and ski the fresh stuff that the same storm had brought to Utah.

JP has been visiting and we have been riding in powder and shooting guns. Most of all we get really stuck everyday. It’s hasn’t stopped snowing for a week or more. Really dangerous avalanche conditions.  Tomich’s sled has been sitting in the wilderness for 4 days. We had to abandon it after the engine flooded. It was getting to dark and snowing an inch an hour. we’ll keep you posted from the road.

This year I decided to get my roll on outta Colorado and into Utah where i can ski Backcountry, handrails, and Park within 30 minutes of eachother, along with being around a huge, emphasis on huge, crew of skiers and my brother who i havent gotten to really rip with in a good 4 years since moving out of NY. I do not regret my decision at all, i have been skiing rails since september 30th and took my first little backcountry venture of the year.
I rolled up with my little brosif to brighton to ski the peaks in the far ridges of brighton. There is nothing better than being out in the mountains with nothing else going on but the beautiful views infront of you and scoping out the lines you want to rip down. 2 hours, 3000 vertical feet, and about 2 miles in we were finally at the top of our first line. Both of us had a smile on our faces after skiing our first real run of the year where from the looks of it no one has ripped yet for the season. we immediately began to rehike the far peak another 2 times. We started at out 10:30 am and made it back to our car at 6:00 pm, a hell of a session, i was retarded enough to only eat a banana for breakfast and was dying by the end. This preseason session was way more than worth it, the snow wasnt perfect but it was good, the sun wasnt shining but it was fine, it doesnt matter what the weather is like, its all about being out there on skis and having the most fun you can.

Check out my facebook for more pictures. Hope you guys enjoyed this little update, I’m heading to Switzerland next week so expect another one with many pictures and a video to cap it off! get excited for ski season.

The snow has started to fall here in Summit County, Colorado. Arapahoe Basin and Loveland ski areas have been open for just about 3 weeks now, and the forecast is looking white. Here’s a few shots of the fresh snow on the peaks….
