I feel you. I think they kind of over did it with the pow air grind
I think tucking the edge in on a taper under the base might solve the problem of the edge popping out. Maybe even having the edge holder continue through the center of the ski.
In the drawing it’s kind of hard to see but since the base would come out like
( / \ )
if the acute corners of the base ever started to bend down you could easily grind them off and still have a perfect ski. also the base wouldn’t go up the whole side of the ski that was just an artistic mistake.
the tip and tail edge cuts are pretty basic with a lot of ski company’s already not having edges around them because it’s not needed and I find that it actually helps keep edges in tack as well as less swing weight
SofaKingSickthe Rossignol Pow Air Grind (slightly different model than the Pow Air, which is what you'd see tanner winning everything in 2001 on) tried something that was basically your idea but also it had something of a grind plate. Look in this thread, "Jensen" has a post about it with a picture https://www.newschoolers.com/forum/thread/849859/Skis-made-specifically-for-Urban
i never used them but they didn't take off obviously. i'm no expert on all this stuff but it seems to me like edges starting and stopping anywhere on the edge is asking for trouble...
seems like a better use of money to buy some used park skis and rip the edges out underfoot if you want. i had a pair like that for a while. better than buying a new pair of gimmicky skis imo but don't let me get in the way of your dream!
