Hi, I’m a new skier I only skied like 12 times last year for the first time but I loved it and I bought skis from friend that happens to be 28.5 boot size and I was sized to be 28.5 so I got a pair of boots from my local shop. So I need to know if this is a scam or not the dudes at the shop say that each boot is different which I get but they said I need to resize my bindings on the skis even though they’re the same exact size and they fit fine with the bindings but I just didn’t know exactly what to do does each boot really make that big of a difference that I need to remount my bindings? Sorry for a newb question it’s just what the guys at the shop told me.
Most brands of boots may be the same size foot (28.5) but since they are different shape they will have a different BSL (boot sole length) so yes it might be a couple mm off which could possibly cause you to pre release or not release from the binding when you’re suppose too.
Each boot company has different lengths for their boot soles. Yes the inside may be 28.5, but the length of the boot is not universal. The length of the boot pertains to how far the bindings should be set up. Salomon 28.5 boots are not equal to Dabello 28.5 or Technica 28.5 and so on and so on.
Take the boots and bindings into the shop and have them check it out. They are 100% correct

Boot size and boot length are not always equal. 28.5 in one boot might mean 330mm length but 320mm in another.
Since your boots are the same size then the length is probably quite similar (within a couple cm for sure). Almost all bindings are able to adjust much more than that to accommodate different boots without remounting. Some exceptions like FKS which don't have much play.
Your binding can probably adjust to fit your boot considering they'd be so close in size so no need to remount. However it should be adjusted properly to have proper forward pressure.
And of course there is a chance your friends boot had the binding maxed out and yours is just a bit longer or shorter in the wrong direction.
Thank you guys for the heads up I was just making sure since I’m new to skiing and did not fully get why a 28.5 wouldn’t add up but now it makes sense thanks!

Thank you I will take them to the shop and ask if they can be adjusted.

Those have a track and should be able to adjust to your boot without remounting.
