I'm new to touring and I already have skis with some AT frame bindings. I need a skin that will fit an older version of the CT 3.0 with a 191 length and a 112 waist. I'd like to save money where possible but is it worth trying to find used skins? I also know there are a shit ton of brands and types out there and I'm not sure which kind would be best.
finding used skins that youll be able to fit is going to be a struggle personally recommend g3 skins
I've only ever had Black Diamond skins. My only gripe with them was the perfectly round tip shape of my last pair of skis wasn't a good fit with the cable loop they had, so like once or twice it came off while I was skinning, but usually it was fine. I got different skis anyway and don't have that problem anymore.
I wouldn't recommend used skins, even if you can find them (which is unlikely). How well those skins stick to your bases and to the snow is going to play a massive part in whether you have a good day or a bad day. Second-hand skins sound like a recipe for trouble.
There are some good articles online that provide information about the different kinds of skins and how to choose between them. Ask Google.
If I've learnt anything in my years on skins / working in a shop, skins is the last place to cheap out on (believe me I've tried).
They are a day maker/breaker for sure.
I personally stick to g3, but lots of friends on Black Diamonds. My boyfriend swears by his k2's though I've never had a chance to test them out.

Used skins are unlikely to fit perfectly. A 10mm waist difference will slip you up on sidehills cuz you'll have too much base exposed next to your edges. I do regularly use my 108 skins on a 122mm waist ski (easy
Used skis are like used condoms. It might work, but its just nasty. Pay the extra money and get it done right.
