What to do when you are sitting on C's, your parents are pissed, and all you want to do is go shred. Every high schooler skiers struggle.
Depends if your goofing off or the stuff is hard for you. If your trying your ass off I would let you go skiing. But I don't understand because I don't have kids is what they tell me.
Are you normally a good student? I have always been a C student. School really isn't my thing. My parents used to get pissed all the time that I didn't have a 3.0 or above. Eventually they realized that I am by no means a scholarly person. They simply ask that I pass all my classes and allocate my time in a productive manner.
You lower their standards and then they'll be fine with it. My parents have let me ski with C's (and sometimes worse) while they flip shit if my sister gets a B in math just because over the years they've learned to expect less from me and expect more from my sister.
I balance homework and shredding by skiing after school every Wednesday once a week because you're not burnt out by skiing every other day after school and you also have time for homework.

No, I have never been a good student, my best GPA was in 7th grade with a 3.5, I havent gotten anything but 2.9 or 3.0 all through high school, but they still think I am a 4.0 guy...

I have been, but the lowest standards they've had is I can have 2 C's...
Get better grades. Wait until you are a HS senior to dick off. If your parents are super on your nuts about grades and your family isn't poor chances are after high school you get 4-5 years of just chillen taking some classes and lots of free time to ski go to college near the slopes and shred on breaks. Most of the schools near skiing are easy as fuck UVM, CU, UU will be easier than a competitive HS fyi. They don't want you in there house going to community college or working at 7-11 or scooping ice cream in a couple years. Ask your teachers what you need to do to get better grades. Make them think you are spending more time than you are one way or another. Grades should bump up.
GL high school was the hardest fucking thing ever waking up early and all that I struggled like fuck to get B's and C's even tho I crushed SATs and attended good college. Adulthood is 10x easier for me.
Idk. I never did my homework or a lot of assignments in HS so my grades were weak in a lot of classes. Still skied though. I would say don't intentionally try to piss them off but do whatever.
That said I didn't really care about school and loves skiing/riding.
good luck
Lol. Not every high school skiers problem. I was skipping half the day to go skiing and my lowest grade was a B. High school isn't that hard. And if it is life is gonna be rough.
I got good grades but then again I don't have a ski hill anywhere near me...
just take a couple hours off of skiing here and there to get your grades up. sorry if i sound like a square but its worth it in the long run

Yeah if he goes to school to be a fucking scalper or dimwitted ninny like you apparently are.
Jesus you're so consistently stupid.

Id rather be happy and a "dimwitted ninny" than a stick up the ass educated person that doesnt ski all that often

Well you're on your way because you completely missed the point.
Don't enroll in a university and expect it to be a cakewalk. Even to get C's.
if you think high school is bad just wait till college

Shut up. I bet you aren't going to Whistler for 2 weeks next week like I am. Don't be jealous Butters. Sorry if I have to gamble and sell shit for profit and be kinda sketchy to make it happen.
The 'big' schools near good skiing are easier than most competitive high schools. As long as you don't take the wrong classes and look into what you are going to take. (For example if you are in economics avoid calculus based econometrics courses and you can get an easy B or A.) Im telling OP to hang in there. Bump his C's to B's for junior year. And let his parents send him somewhere he can ski and get a very well respected degree while doing so.
Being perfect and getting straight A's isn't for everyone wasn't for me and probably isn't for OP.
buckle the fuck down and build up some work ethic so when you get older, you can work your damn ass off to make sure you can ski a bunch.

Lowkey did not expect that. Easily thought you were pulling good grades from your posts tbh
BrueLowkey did not expect that. Easily thought you were pulling good grades from your posts tbh
Haha I'm flattered, but I do not have good grades. I wish I could blame it on ADD or Dyslexia but really I just have a poor work ethic when it comes to school. I'm a blue-collar kinda guy.
Apply yourself in school, don't piss of your parents, park you car on the street for quick getaways to the mtn.
I haven't found high school to be too shitty. This is my lowest year for gpa and even so that's at about a 3.6. (I'm a junior) what I do is get all my shit done during the week and fuck off on the weekends.
Don't buy into the the bullshit NS narrative. School is way more important than skiing especially today. Stay in school and do well, skiing can honestly wait.
parents never stopped me from skiing always expected to try my best tho I've been a c,b student

Mmmmm yeah.....good strategy. Spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on school to take all the easy classes and walk away with no real skills except some great memories of skiing in college.
It's no wonder you have such admittedly shit credit and are in an admittedly poor financial state. Enjoy Whistler homie.
Get some nuts and start working? Dicking off isn't the way to go about things. In all honesty, if you think highschool is hard and you cant pull above 2.9, you're going to have a tough time in college buddy.
Iraq_LobsterSchool is way more important than skiing especially today.
Entirely subjective
not to toot my own horn, but I have get a 3.8 gpa, and i still ski a bit, although i had great parental support from the start so that helps a lot
High school is unbelievably easy. It's not hard to set aside an hour or two each night to study, and if you have a test coming up, start studying several nights in advance. If you start building better work and study habits now, it'll save your ass down the road in college and life.
There's a lot of good advice in this thread, from a lot of people who learned the hard way.
OP, if you don't start building good work habits now, how are you going to fund your skiing in the future? If I'm living in a ski town and I'm running a business, I'm going to want people who can still get work done and do it well, instead of people who just do the average and fuck around.
It all comes down to work ethic. If you take the time to create good study habits, do homework, etc. then you're grades will go up and your parents will chill out. My parents will pretty much let me do whatever I want now (within reason, of course) because I maintain a 4+ gpa while holding down a part time job. If you put the work in to improve your grades your parents will relax a ton, trust me.

The kid admitted to not being a great student and wanting to ski.
I told him the bigger schools near skiing actually aren't that hard and are far more suited to C students that aren't dumbfucks than bomb builder A students who try really hard and for him to not give up. Those schools don't cost that much.
100 bucks says I went to a better college than you. It must suck to be so angry. I will enjoy Whistler though :).
Some advice. Never miss a homework- it's the stupidest way to lose points in high school. Never accept that you're just not a good student or not smart enough. Set small, realistic goals and push yourself to achieve them. Go for extra help with teachers whenever you can. Force yourself to go to libraries to study.
Remeber, tho, you'll never please everybody. But never settle for anything that's below your potential academically or otherwise. If you're pleased with yourself, that's good enough.

I HAVE A SOLUTION. I currently am a junior in high school. In my school district there is an option to attend a community college to finish you last credits of high school, and go to school only two days a week. If you feel like working up a bitch fit (Butters) about the details of this, look it up, its called "college pathways" for edison school district in Colorado. This might be the big break I need to keep my sponsor happy, and my parents happy, while allowing me to ski 3-5 days a week. Thanks for the advice though! Except you Butters. Chill the fuck out.

It's all about the study habits homie
Get Your shit done ahead of time and wait for college, your ski day count will be exponentially higher and all you have to do is not fuck around in class. do you homework and spend a but of time studying and it'll pay off immensely
WPMatthigh schooler
Getting high during/after school seems to be the problem haha 5 days a week to study and do homework should be enough.
Im blessed with the ability to get good grades when I try and when I don't get low A's. reading this thread makes me feel super thankfull.

You are a lucky guy, most of us struggle with it, its not our forte
WPMattYou are a lucky guy, most of us struggle with it, its not our forte
Just hang in there bud you can get a degree from CU or CSU for cheap as fuck your instate. Take 5-6 years to make sure your grades are good 3 classes a semester 1-2 days a week.
I have gotten shit grades my entire life but I have money and ski 80-100 days a year and I live in Boston and fly to real mountains or drive to VT. Lived in Tahoe for 5 years but Im too old for that but I still get mine. Don't be scared to be that sketchy guy selling shit so you don't gotta have a gay ass job and can ski every day. If there is a will there is a way. No normal people are happy us weird ass 30s 40s ski bums have it better.
Just gotta get those turns in and ski 150 days a year if you can. Im bitched out and 80ish not enough but I travel to real mountains and storm chase. Set those sights high. Remember you meet real people you can do business with in the bar just having a drink and bullshitting at the lodge. Its OK to put your faith in the sport. Turn a C into a B and go to one of those good Colorado schools homie they aren't that hard to get into even if your guidance counselor talks shit. They want your money don't apply for financial aid and you will get in.

High school can be frickin hard for some people ... "book smart and street smart"
How many high school A grades do you need to be a ski instructor??? (For example)

That whole book smart VS street smart is dumb. You need both. I know so many people back home who have straight As but can't change a tire or anything like that. Then there are people who are the opposite. You need both in life to be really successful. There were only a handful of people back home who I went to school with who had both school smarts and street smarts.
I'm not a straight A student nor do I know the most about cars. But I'm well above average for both and I think I'm a pretty well rounded individual.
Profahoben is well rounded as well, just throwing that out there haha.
Jesus Christ half this thread is just people jerking themselves off.
WPMattId rather be happy and a "dimwitted ninny" than a stick up the ass educated person that doesnt ski all that often
It ain't that hard to be happy, ski a whole bunch, be highly educated, and have a legit career. You just gotta be a hard worker.
People are too damn lazy these days.
This whole website is about skiing of course people are going to be like "who cares!!! go ski" but honestly school is important. A little effort goes a long way. Don't say "i'm not a school person" because no one is a school person. Some people just realize its an important means to an end. Effort is key. Skiing will come when grades are up.
you are not entitled to ski. nobody is unless it's their job. skiing is a privilege.

If you have the money for a lift ticket you're entitled to ski...

I tried the whole uni/ college school thing... I really did I even got good grades, 18months of it until I decided my sanity and health came first ... I'm realllly not a school person
But I did become fully qualified in ski instructing, that's something I actually want to do!

Being well rounded is dope but its not easy. Lots of people just do not have school skills but can succeed in other aspects of their life. High school is mostly bullshit and I did well because I can put up with bs and do well on standardized tests but that is not at all the same case for everyone
Just don't give up on school OP, find shit you're interested in and learn more about it, push yourself but don't let your parents talk down the value of a day spent in the mountains either
