what are these people coaching exactly?
Coaches help the pro film himself to know what he is doing wrong and give advice on how to spin quads and boner tricks and other arealy stuff
They also give special stress relieving massages if you catch my drift ;)))))

I get jerked off before every comp it helps my cork 7s
They're pretty much get paid to be a professional Captain Obvious.
I've thought about this as well, if you are the person pushing the sport farther than it ever has been and coming up with new stuff, what does a coach do for you? It's not like the current gen of pro skiers has ever come close to what they're doing now. Do coaches just critique minor stuff like takeoffs/landings and come up with a stretching/lifting routine for the athlete?
There needs to be an edit button for comments, I totally mixed two sentences into one in my last post lol.

For a pro skier, a coach would probably do all the little shit to help them maximize their performance. That may be through technical analysis or simply making a road map for tricks on how to get where they want to be. A coach would also do most of the management for for comps, travelling and just making training accessible.
technical, physical, mental other things.
I mean, even if the coach isnt as good as a skier as said pro, he can still film and point out things that he can improve on.
Same thing a gymnastics coach would do is my guess.
probably just a constant source of encouragement for the rider.
rider: I don't know if I should do it.
Coach: you totally go it
rider - attempts quad, lands on head
Coach: you totally got it

"dont worry youll get it next run"- coach
I feel like if I was a comp skier, having a coach who used to judge would be incredibly helpful, as they would be able to explain how the judges look at a run and create a run based off of that
It's the same as any sport. Mainly technique, mechanics, etc. also helping them choose their runs for comps as they understand the judging better than the skier himself.
