If there even is a point at all? Why are Alta, Deer Valley and MRG ski only?
Idk if it makes a difference at alta and deer valley since theres so much snow, but at mrg with such little snow its so nice. Theres actually a noticable difference in snow quality and the bumps at mad river are so much nicer than sugarbush for example, they are rounder. Also it keeps the old timey feeling alive
Its severely dumb, and because parks were mostly for snowboarders they dont really invest in nice ones at ski only mtns.
I think it's stupid, but there is a definitely a difference when comparing Alta and Snowbird. Does snowboarding play into that? Who knows.
I'd say its mostly tradition, and that the rich old farts at Deer Valley don't want to ski with snowboarder punks.
Not all but lots of snowboarders like to slide slip everything and they way they turn takes away all the good snow. Damn Slowboarders.

Same can be said about skiers though...
Alta's target market is that old granola dude that hates snowboards and just wants to ski fresh snow.

id be curious to find out what snow would be like at an all snowboarders mountain. I know theres a major difference between mad river and sugarbush, and it can only be because of the lack of snowboarders. I wonder if skiers do the same
these are some reason that may play a role..but probably not...
mad river is a family mountain and we know how dads go bad shit crazy when their kids get hit by someone ( a snowboarder in this instance) and snow boarders (lets face it) have a huge blind spot.
deer valley dose not want the risk of some rich asshole suing because some snowboarder hit their kid. i cant come up with a reason why alta dosent allow them other then maybe some profit from that court case if any?
If im not mistaken alta and MRG let people snowboard if they hike up (as if anyone is going to hike 2k vert) so maybe some shit with the lifts?
It's stupid, I believe, to exclude snowboarding anywhere. He's a video on the subject. http://youtu.be/YwWDMAEYe5c Some of the skiers sound like real dickbags.

Cant speak for DV ( although im sure they are assholes) alta has super friendly folks and mad river is famous for its friendly skiers. often times you dont have to start a conversation the other person on the (chairlift/table) will
FigNewtonAlta's target market is that old granola dude that hates snowboards and just wants to ski fresh snow.
Yeah, all about the demographic they're trying to attract.
It sucks though; Wildcat lift would be Snowboard paradise. A lot of the good shit on Collins and Supreme would be pretty difficult to access (postholeing up a super long sideslope in deep snow.)
Go to Mad River Glen and tell me its not the best damn ski vibe you've experienced.
Adolf_SkitlerWhat? That's a thing? Why?
I think that question has already been asked...
alta's been taken to court multiple times and they win because of snowboarders having a "blind spot". there's your reason

been going on for quite some timehttp://ski.curbed.com/archives/2015/11/alta-snowboarding-ban-court-case.php
most of the people at alta rip for anyone who's saying it's just a bunch of old dudes

Go to mrg early on a pow day you'll see snowboard tracks for sure. Split boarders skin that mountain before it opens early pow days .
mad river is the tits, huge mountain with classic trails and backcountry. A powder day there rivals one out west

you need a good powder day "out west" my friend

It made it into this years movie from matchstick productions fade to winter , mrg is legendary.
There was a Skiing vs Snowboarding video on YouTube, and they interviewed someone who worked at Mad River. They said their reason for banning snowboarders was how a bunch of snowboarders pissed off the owner, and therefore all snowboarders were banned. No real logic reason....
It must have arisen out of some sort of fear originally and people hate to change and like to cling to their irrational fears. The "snowboarders have a blind spot" argument is evidence of that. So are the comments about "that one time a snowboarder totally took out (me, mom, dad, that one guy etc.)" that pop up around this topic. There used to be a lot of fear about runaway snowboards too and last season I went to a mountain that still had signs about it and lots of those leashes required signs too.
Reality is this 'new' kind of skiing is just skiing. Two plankers can run people over too and also have blindspots.
I think the argument about "ruining the snow" came later and this argument is also total BS. Two plankers can scrape off the snow (who invented the snowplow BTW) better than anyone.
MinggHahaha no way. That was actually their defense?!
The snowboarders also took it to court once because Alta is on government land, and they said it was unconstitutional for them to be denied their right to it. I guess they thought you are born a snowboarder?

Snowboarders will never be allowed at Alta. Sure you can hike up or snowboard down from the SnowBird side (I've seen this done before) since its gov land. But Alta has all the right to keep you off the lifts. I really like Alta though so it doesn't bother me. But then again I don't have anything against snowboarders either.
MinggSame can be said about skiers though...
Haha, nobody ever talks about it though.
chicknfriedsteakHaha, nobody ever talks about it though.
I don't want to start an argument or anything but there's just as many bad skiers as there are bad snowboarders. It's kinda shitty to say all snowboarders side slip when half the skiers at my hill slide on their edges to turn as opposed to actually carving. But I don't know, maybe it's different out there.

Nope haha. You'll see plenty off skiers knocking fresh snow down the mountain from slip sliding out west, but I've seen far more snowboards do it.

English isn't your first language is it?
I could probably ride bumps cleaner on my snowboard than several of the skiers bitching in this thread.
This topic has been beaten to death again and again though.
It all comes down to idiot who think that snowboarders are evil and will ruin the mountain. Every other reason is total bullshit.
As far as the ski vibe thing. There are other places like that such as Hickory in NY. It has nothing to do with being ski only.
I wonder how many criers we would find on here if parks went back to being "snowboard only".
Ya'll haters can watch johnny tsunami, suck my dick, and get blasted in the face when I carve by you while you're standing in the trail taking selfies of your cute little ski vacation.
YOLO

because snowboarders are filthy, stinky, dope smoking, knocking all the good snow off the run, running into little kid, sitting in the middle of the hill, mitten wearing, goggle sagging, good for nothing losers!
I have heard that at Alta, it is because of the amount of traversing needed, it can be dangerous.
KneeDropYou're a dick, buddy
oh come on. Jesus dude.

Not really why but their argument for keeping things that way.

We've clearly struck some hurt feelings in this thread. Grow a pair bruh. It's just the internet.

No hurt feelings here. I can afford to go ski all these "non boarder" resorts, which you despise. Probably because you don't have the means to enjoy. Which is fine, but it's not an excuse to be an idiot. Have plenty of them in the world.
I don't know -- and some cursory research has done little to enlighten me beyond the familiar arguments of "bigotry and prejudice against snowboarders," or "it's just not as safe as skiing." To be honest, both of those arguments sound like bullshit. I'm not an expert, but I've definitely noticed a difference in the way a novice skier and a novice snowboarder affect the snow - the "heelside hero stance" is great for getting you down any run, no matter how steep or bumpy, but scrapes all of the snow down in one singular movement. Pressure is never varied and the snow is pushed down to the bottom of the run, no fun for anyone.
Now, I know you say that you see skiers all the time skiing shittily down runs, but by necessity they push the snow off to the sides as they go, even in a snow plow, as opposed to straight down the hill. Skid turns and pizza turns do the same thing and snow is never scraped off in a linear downward motion, like in snowboarding. More snow stays on the hill. These are really just my personal observations, but it actually takes a skier a lot of edge control to fully sideslip down a run (usually taking a bunch of snow with you) For snowboarders, it's one of the only two ways they can get down and often in steep and bumpy terrain, snowboarders are too scared to go toeside and thus the heelside hero.
I think there are legitimate differences in the way that skiers and snowboarders make their way down the mountain and it's important to note that shitty skiers make shitty bumps too.

I'm pretty sure they said snowboarders screw up the single chair. They allowed snowboarders for a while but they kept messing up they chair when they pushed off. I read about it in one of those freebie VT mags.
As for Deer Valley, its just pretentious rich folks who are stuck in the early 90s who think snowboarders are a bunch of hooligans. It has to be their reasoning, and its dumb.
As for Alta, noone wants snowboarders at Alta, its a skiers mountain and I do 100% buy that they will fuck up the snow excuse. Not trying to have sideslippers push it all down.

Hahhaha I'll consider it
There's certainly a point to it at Deer Valley. Surprisingly my favorite thing about DV isn't the lack of snowboards, but the lack douchey skiers that are omnipresent at vail. DV is more about being a luxury resort and less about being a place to shred.
Alta on the other hand is on public land. I think they need to cut that bullshit out, but that is mainly because I'd love to see boarders up there grinding peoples gears.
Its just a nicer way of saying, 'no poor people... Or blacks or Jews.'
The falling leaf
Scrapes a lot of snow off the mountain
