Hope they don't do that at PCMR & Canyons, too. Dang!

Mt. Snow's are like $95 this year...fuck that. Theres a limit, we know theyre fucking us over anyways, but people really need to draw the line.
Damn son, im glad I get the epic pass for $500 and it includes 10 days to vail and bc
"i'll just save money by touring..."
*checks touring setup prices*
"fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck."
Thats 3 and a half times my mountain day pass... thats kinda fucked.
wait, what? That's ridiculous.. I paid 150 for my season pass thats good on certain days for 5 hills in WNY. Thats just insane.
Meh
Just get an epic pass. Locals aren't getting dinged, just the stupid european tourists are. Seems like an alright deal to me.
Day passes keep going up, seasons keep going down.
Vail has a deal with Satan. More profits = more disasters blamed on the terrorists but which were actually perpetrated by members of out own government = better illuminati funding. Simple.
People here in Austria are complaining that single day tickets are now 50 euros, up from 46. When I tell them about prices in North America they honestly think I am lying.
Most families taking a winter ski vacation in Vail have incomes upwards of $250k, this isn't shit to them.

But we still look jealously at the Epic Pass prices... our season passes are ridiculous.
That's crazy wtf!? What do you guys reccomend me getting for a 3 day trip out there?

yeah the line will be drawn when people stop showing up. If they are still profiting then.........

Vail isn't 5 shitty mountains in NY ;).
But really thats insane. Pretty much double the cost of a lift ticket where I ski (Loon).
I know with a lot of ski resorts they can cover most, if not all, of their operating costs with season pass sales alone so I wonder what the motive is here.

To make as much money as possible.
Its simple supply/demand. Always ways to find cheaper tickets around online or through local stores anyways. But I agree, $159 is insane for a day of skiing. That being said...look at vail's clients..lot of $$$$.
MagneticTo make as much money as possible.
But if you increase the price of a product for no reason you are inadvertantly going to dimminsh your demand. Instead of paying $160 people will go to all the other great mountains in the Vail area that have cheaper tickets.
I feel like there is another reason for this increase.

Once demand gets lowered then the price will follow. It is not like they raised prices with the goal of making less
Granite_StateI feel like there is another reason for this increase.
Yeah they are targeting a that type of crowd. The type who spend too much money so they do not need to ski around poor folk.
Probably have to do it to push people out of Vail and to the other resorts. Too many people are chosing Vail if they are faced with 95 bucks for Beaver Creek or 120 for Vail they have to make Vail 160 to get people to stay away.
If I was a really shitty intermediate from the midwest I'd love Vail you can ski anywhere there if you are a gaper since its so flat and beginner friendly. I completely understand Vail's popularity.
TwigBut we still look jealously at the Epic Pass prices... our season passes are ridiculous.
In Austria, at least, the season passes are ludicrously cheap. My Salzburger Super Ski Card costs about 600 euros and is good at 22 regions (over 40 resorts, including glaciers) in the Central Austrian Alps, even some in Tirol like Kitzbuehel & Fieberbrunn. No black out dates either.
skodeo7
My sentiments exactly. The vasoline might ease the pain a little, but VR is giving people the whole fist this season. A cup of coffee this year on Vail Mountain costs $5. A kid in the Devo program ran up a $45 dollar lunch bill. His parents were pissed. People who aren't made of money have got to be getting pretty fed up.
louie.miragsyeah the line will be drawn when people stop showing up. If they are still profiting then.........
We can only hope.
I know three families that go together to Vail every spring and winter break and buy day passes and really expensive lodging. Mind, they live in gated communities, go to private, school, and smell and look like money but its fucking insane. I really hope that this at least cuts into the people going to Vail and they wind up losing profit from this.
#fuckvail
I'm currently in the process of having "FUCK VAIL" stickers made, if you guys want some send me like a dollar or something and I'll get a few out to ya
It's simple marketing that all ski resorts do: the more day passes you buy in advance the cheaper they become. Of course the clincher is that the longer you're there the more you spend on lodging, food, etc etc :)
that's also why season passes have been getting cheaper. more people at the mountain is always a good thing because there's a better chance you'll buy food n shit. plus with social media it's free advertising cause without pictures to immediately show your friends you aren't actually there.

Its unfortuante...but very avoidable. Skiing isn't a cheap sports thats pretty obvious. That being said..if your not made of money don't go to Vail. Lot of great resorts out there that are reasonably priced
Black. That's crazy wtf!? What do you guys reccomend me getting for a 3 day trip out there?
a touring setup
While $159 is obviously crazy high, that is only the ticket window price. If you plan ahead and buy online, it doesn't cost that much (but still a lot). An Aspen spokesman had a good comment on these high window prices:
"You don't buy an airline ticket the day you fly"
While comparing a plane ticket and lift ticket is a bit of a stretch, he makes a good point. You generally know in advance when you are going to go skiing, especially during the holidays when people are there for vacation and locals probably have some type of season pass. Just plan ahead and don't buy your ticket at the ticket window and you won't have to pay their stupid high price.
Lol you could get a single day pass to abay for 40 bucks
Good.
I wish more places raised their prices (like Stevens Pass...should be $100). Keeps crowds down, kicks all the people who bitch about prices out, and allows them to invest that money in more terrain/chairs.
As long as they keep the epic local pass cheap than its all good

yeah that just sucks because what if it is raining that day you chose? The tickets have no rain-checks. You can't predict the weather for flights either, but at least you will get a credit if the flight is cancelled.

Coming from the dude who his parents buy his passes.
Tell that to the person who is just out of college, paying back loans, paying rent, paying bills, and still at a starting salary.
I refuse to pay over $60 for a single day ticket to any resort. Earn your turns FTW!
Then go ski somewhere else. Especially all you utah people pissing and moaning about vail. They suck, but its not like there arent other places to fucking ski. CO is a bit different, but this bitching about vail is just as annoying as their business tactics.

well i've been working in the industry since 2010 so the pass kind of comes with my FULL TIME FUCKING JOB.....
honestly, if you can't afford a day ticket the poor college student should get a 2nd job instructing/waiting tables in the lodge and get the free/super reduced pass....or save up and pay.
poor 20-somethings aren't the ski industry's target market, however they tend to have this massive sense of entitlement. "im a college student, why should i pay full price" "ive been skiing here for years, i should get a discount" "tickets here are so expensive, at baker they're $49" "i can't believe they raised their prices...such a ripoff"
nobody feels like they should pay full price for a day ticket. this mindset is fascinating to me...do they barter at the grocery store? with their realtor? how about at the BMW dealer? i'm gonna guess no. but, when it's the weekend at the ski hill, now is the time to complain about prices. it's just really strange to me.
People who are saying fuck vail have no idea of a couple things:
1) the value of the Epic pass
2) the clientele Vail caters to
3) any basic concept of supply/demand
4) a clue

To starts yes people do barter when buying houses and cars... a lot. But on a more important note I feel like you're looking at the issue all wrong, people don't have a problem paying a normal full price ($40-$60) but when it's three times the price it's obvious people are going to be angry. $160 for a day pass is ridiculous, and people shouldn't have to get second jobs like you were saying just to enjoy their passion.

if I were being charged $50 for a gallon of milk at the grocery store I would totally try to barter.
its not about not wanting to pay full price its about not wanting to pay %200 more than necessary.
http://news.vailresorts.com/corporate/vail-resorts-epic-pass-deadline.htm
so i get that the single day pass is fucked but considering the epic all access season pass is the same price as 5 days on the mountain vail is just a nice guy with a robber costume as it robs the shit out of tourists but anyone that skis at any epic resort consistently is getting the royat treatment
If you're going to a Vail owned resort and don't buy an epic pass at the price they are selling that shit you deserve to spend the $160/day.
That being said, $160/day. hahahahahaha.

Yup. Just buy the fucking thing if you are going to be anywhere near Colorado/Summitt.
I wish I had it this year and I hate Summitt CO but Beaver Creek is close to Aspen/Glenwood.
2 winters ago it wasn't exactly fun for a Tahoe based head like me to spend the extra couple hundred to get a full Epic pass. But I knew I'd be in Colorado and would want to ski Vail since I remembered it differently from as a kid the one single day I skiied it growing up. I was only at Vail for 3 or 4 days but not being a moron meant I could afford a nice hotel off priceline and food instead of crying about lift ticket prices. The result of not being a broke mofo was meeting a hot rich ski cougar to use the free epic pass days in the Alps with. WIN.
Mountain Collective Pass is way chiller than the Epic now the epic scummed the days in the Alps but you don't get a full season pass anywhere. 50% of Aspen tickets during holidays still sucks ass tho its no season pass. Might rock both next season if business is still good Glenwood is cheap af and is close to BC and Aspen Highlands nice hotels for under 40 bones a night.
