DingoSeanThey can't bring back 'traditional marriage'. That's in the hand of the courts. Congress can't do squat about that. #dealwithitalso, I find the 2016 senate map to be pretty crazy.
This whole thing could TOTALLY flip in 2 years. Only like 8 Democrat seats up for election - all of which are strong incumbents in blue states... (except maybe Colorado, but in a presidential election year, the turnout will be massively higher, which isn't really good for Republicans in left-leaning tossup states like CO or even Nevada)
All while there are like 24 or something republican seats up for grabs... If the Democrats take like 4 or 5 and win the presidency again, we're back to where we are before yesterday... So really, I wouldn't get excited or dismayed about anything here, anyone.
lol. I know you're stupid, but c'mon. If that were true, nobody would give a damn about the candidates' stances on gay marriage and abortion. Yet, for some reason, gay marriage and abortion are pretty much the only things dumbass leftists like yourself can talk about when discussing a Republican candidate.
Ignoring the fact that checks and balances don't work like they should in a perfect utopia, did you know that the senate has to approve every federal court nominee? The exact same senate that just got taken over by Republicans and the exact same courts that you seem to think have sole power to determine marriage law.

Sorry for the dub-post, but I just noticed the left wing part. I firmly believe that both parties should go fuck themselves and that the whole system can go to hell. Honestly the only part I like is that there are different branches which in theory balance power.
Man US politics confuse the fuck out of me. Neither of the two parties seem to be outright left or right but they just lean that way on different issues. No way for a die hard left/right winger to get the system they want.

I shed a single tear because of that error, I'll admit it. Using "gonna" was what really brought the flood, though.
J.D.Hi guys, Canada here. Can we have Keystone XL now?
THANK YOU! Praying that this major, and several smaller, pipeline projects get the go ahead soon. *prayer hands emoji*

Yeah fuck Earth, bleed 'er dry!
CoreyTrevorSo...could you please explain how "fuck the system" mentality is left wing? Last I checked, the side that says "fuck the system" are the Republicans, and most of the other sadly miniscule and forlorn parties. Democrats are all for "The System". With the exception of marriage equality, more of a tough stance on drugs, and the occasional radical conservative that hates the fact that women can choose whether they have a kid or not, the Republicans are the one's saying fuck the system.
ANDR01DSorry for the dub-post, but I just noticed the left wing part. I firmly believe that both parties should go fuck themselves and that the whole system can go to hell. Honestly the only part I like is that there are different branches which in theory balance power.
I know and I know. I don't like the two party system either blah blah blah. That's not what I was trying to say. What I meant by left wing was I was trying to imply more liberally minded people (which I know isn't necessarily left it's just an easy to try to get across what I meant although I clearly failed). We are talking about a different system to be fucked. The point was that in a culture built off of rebellion, suddenly it seems like the majority is now closer to people like frenchy, drifting towards more conservative values. When I first joined this site less than two years ago, I am more or less positive this thread would have been met with tons of hate, because I remember thinking that. Maybe it's Obama's fault, I don't know.

I become more of anti-democrat every paycheck. I used to be in the middle, but after paying 15k in taxes in the last year, that has changed. More spending cannot be an option.
I do not consider myself a republican either. Both parties want the same thing. Government has overstepped its powers by many magnitudes. I just want to be left alone. I know how to provide for myself and am sick of hearing that i don't know what is best for myself and that the government does. I fly the Gadsden flag proudly under the red white and blue, for "don't tread on me" rings true in my heart.
Brule.Damnit. Even though Rob Astorino won NY in terms of acreage, but Westchester and NYC had to ruin it all and vote for Cuomo.
Sadly Putin didn't win and we're stuck with Cumhole for another four years. If you look at the county breakdowns he got destroyed by the boroughs which is no surprise.
J.D.Ughhh so much to address that's wrong but so little time. First, just so you know on the map thing, the phase III / IV expansion would approximately double capacity. It's basically half-done."the morality of the ultra heavy crude that bitumen" Why is there a morality issue here? First of all, if there's a morality issue it's paying for oil exported by dictatorial countries that treat women like goats, which money can then be spent on executions for homosexuals. Second, if you understood the process for bitumen extraction, it's open pit mining, full stop (literally it's shoveling sand). The tailings are less harmful than mining tailings but no one's really picketing the mining industry because it isn't marketed as well or easily (oil = bad). Third, sorry guys we're going to mine it all anyway, we can sell it to China or you, might as well be you.
The pipeline has seen six separate mandatory environmental studies and been subjected to the most rigorous environmental review in the history of pipelines, by kind of a large margin.
"as for what it would cost the country to employ those 42000... wouldn't the government spending that money on building or subsidizing green energy jobs do just as well at job creation?"
Spending it on anything would do just as well at job creation but a) it would be the government spending the money rather than the oil industry and b) this is sort of like suggesting you create jobs by having 42,000 people build a dam without any tools. It'll take way more people! More jobs! Who cares if it's a waste of money? Also, c) if you think the government isn't spending wads of cash on renewable energy incentives and development you're insane. But that stuff simply can't take the reins yet and it will be a gradual handoff over the next, oh probably the rest of our lifetime more or less.
"it seems to me that the cost of refining that absolute gunk from Ft. Mac would outweigh, or at least not be that much significantly cheaper than the higher cost of purchasing and shipping the much cleaner stuff from either Mexico or the Middle East"
You'd be wrong. This is a massive cost savings. This is the oil industry, if it wasn't profitable they wouldn't be doing it. It's in fact so profitable that notwithstanding that the cost has increased by about two and a half billion dollars, literally everyone still wants to do it. Also, you're worried about the environmental impacts of a pipeline (spills easier to prevent, easier to minimize and easier to clean up) but you're okay with shipping more oil from the middle east in tankers? That's a red herring though, it's really just dollars and cents... basically the cost of the crude is reduced according to the grade, no biggie, nobody in Fort Mac expects Brent pricing for their stuff.
"Seems to me that everything I've read states that the XL is just to send more oil down to the gulf so it can be exported."
The answer to this repeated false claim has been pretty blunt from TCPL: "Mr. Thompson and Mr. Findley’s piece also erroneously suggests that Keystone XL is about exports. This is categorically false. Keystone XL is designed to serve U.S. refineries in the Gulf Coast, period. We have said repeatedly that not a drop of crude oil from Keystone XL will be exported."
Moreover the US State Department concluded that US exports are not dependent on pipeline development, whether the thing is built or not. Crude exports aren't even economically feasible at this point because of transportation costs. Some of the refined stuff might go outside the USA, sure, but that completely misses the point of US refined product and demonstrates a misunderstanding of the entire industry.
The problem is that the industry is pretty complex and people just seem to have this knee-jerk negative reaction to anything involving oil or the oilsands, so it works when you compress these issues into thirty second ads which are universally misleading. But anyway, my point remains, I don't see this simply NEVER happening, so why delay it and push the cost up? You can have it for this price or more later.
As I said - I'm completely undereducated as far as the whole situation and I haven't even really gave it much thought until now - I've basically ignored the majority of the debate on the subject so far, so my questions come simply from what I've eyeballed/scanned and my pre-concieved notions that if it's such a big deal to have government approval - then it must have a significant amount of government money or resources associated, rather than private money from oil companies.
Personally, I'm not anti-oil or anything... I'm just wondering (as far as shipping and stuff instead of building a pipeline, that's just based on my very basic knowledge on how much more difficult it is to refine what's basically asphalt from Bakersfield or Ft Mac over sweet crude from the WTOF - both of them to my understanding emit a gargantuan amount of CO2 emissions either way)

well so far I don't see Roe v. Wade being overturned ever... and with the way Gay Marriage is sweeping across the nation, I don't see that ending anytime soon either, as the courts have pretty much unanimously agreed on gay rights in that regard.
Check and balance all you want, but there's not enough power in the other two branches right now to overrule the courts at this juncture, or likely any juncture... it will take a downright republican super dooper majority to do that, and that will never happen.
2 years worth of a republican majority is not going to do enough to implement some sweeping change to either of these situations. Sorry, but you're completely disillusioned if you think this is going to change squat. Roe v. Wade will never be overturned, and Gay Marriage will continue to spread.

All up to the election, leftists like yourself couldn't stop talking about how it would be the end of gay rights and women's rights if the Republicans took over congress. Now that they have taken over congress, you're instantly convinced they have no power to affect anything. Interesting. Either you were fear-mongering before the election or you're in denial.
Also, are you seriously using the #LolYouLost hashtag after your party just got obliterated in the election? That doesn't make any sense.

It is nuts. It shows the power the city has over the rest of the state. I was looking at the numbers for each county and it crazy. Astorino got his ass handed to him in kings, new york, queens and the Bronx losing by 180,00, 160,000, 120,000 and 100,000 votes respectiviely.
If you take these 4 counties out Astorino wins by about 50,000 votes.

It also doesn't help that cities have buses going to voting places. A little biased if you ask me. I don't see buses in towns going to voting booths.
Maybe it's because cities in CT (NY as well) always go blue. The cities with their demographics voted for Malloy here in CT. So Foley is liked in 80% of most towns in CT, the majority of Malloys votes came from the cities. I wonder how many votes from these cities would of actually counted if we had a good system of voter registration.

I don't know who was saying that, but they must have been uninformed and on the slippery-slope wagon... If it was seriously such a big deal, there would have been a far larger turnout. This "obliteration" is just as likely to flip the other way or at least even out in 2 years, like I said and showed.
Also, worthy of noting - I'm not Democrat or Republican at all. I'm a registered Independent and have been since I started voting. I'm highly critical of many democrats and republicans alike - It's rare that I ever vote for the GOP or DNC candidate (I vote for a 3rd party on many occasions) - I'm more interested in ballot measures that actually effect me.
Roe v. Wade will never go away. Gay Rights are here to stay. 2 years of republicans having a majority in congress isn't going to change squat. I'm going to laugh pretty hard if Hillary gets voted to the oval office (not that I'm a particular fan of her or anything at all) and these staunch conservatives lose their shit.

Fucknut worse than Romney... so in other words, Rick Perry.
I dunno, Hilary has name recognition and would spur massive female voter turnout. I would think if they ran Chris Christie they would have a decent shot, or Rubio. I have to think Chris Christie wins Ohio.
Rand Paul and Jeb Bush sound like bad ideas, though Jeb wins Florida for you.
Paul Ryan maybe, but he's still tied to that Romney campaign.

Let me put those numbers differently.
In the counties of New York, Kings, Queens, and the Bronx Cuomo recieved 696,800 votes or 36% of his total. Astorino recieved just 135,650 votes in those four counties or only 9% of his total votes.

mirozIf you don't like gay marriage, don't get gay married.
The issue at hand is not that gays have a union of some sort with each other. If they want to put rings on their fingers and announce to the world that they lick each other's assholes, they can. However, the relationship they have is not marriage because marriage is the union of one man and one woman.
