Sappee to host the first AFP freeskiing event in Finland
The Finnish Open New School Event – to take place at Sappee on February 19–20, 2010 – invites freeskiers to battle for AFP points against challenging competition. The annual Sappee new school competitions have already became legendary events, and this year the Finnish Open New School Event will become the first ever international AFP tour stop in Finland!
The AFP tour consists of various top level competitions, including the Freestyle.ch and the US Winter X Games, the most prestigious freeskiing events of all. The AFP status will further raise the level of Sappee’s new school competitions. Only the first 100 registered riders win a qualification spot!
The Finnish Open New School Event provides promising young athletes an opportunity to achieve international success – the competition may lead to a spot in the Salomon Jib Academy or even the Salomon junior team. The winner of the Junior category will be competing in the Salomon Jib Academy European final in Sweden. Success there will open up the opportunity to win a place in the Salomon team after a successful World final held in the United States!
Winner to claim the top prize of €2,000
The two-day Finnish Open New School Event offers a total of €3,000 in prize money, of which the winner of the Pro category will receive €2,000. The action on the first day concentrates on big air while the second day is dedicated to slopestyle. There are three competition categories: Pro, Junior and Women.
Friday’s big air and Saturday’s slopestyle will be battled out at the Sappee Snow Park. After the slopestyle competition, the action will move to the Sappee Open Air Theatre, where the jam sessions will be held at a custom-built stadium allowing the crowd excellent views of the freeskiers and their inspirational tricks. The Mountain Dew airbag sessions will take place on Sunday at the Sappee Snow Park’s new BigAirBag.
Registration will open on January 15th, 2010.
