I've written several SuperUnknown intros over the years, and I'm starting to feel like a broken record trying to describe the insane talent that the contest has brought to the fore. This year is proving to be no different with some serious heaters being thrown in the semi-finalist edits that have been dropping all week long. The edits feature skiers from all over the globe, ranging from Newschoolers own Fred Ferland to last year's Wildcard winner Sam Zahner. And let's not forget the now infamous Zane Kushman.
Level 1 summed things up nicely:
If thereís anything that we can say for certain after spending the past few weeks reviewing this yearís Superunknown entries, its that the talent pool has never been deeper, and thereís more variation in style, influence, and inspiration than ever before.
Superunknown XIV pulled in over 80 entries from talented amateurs around the globe- each entrant displaying their own unique take on skiing- some street, some park, some pow, and some a mix of everything. Figuring out how to compare and judge one against the next was a huge challenge, and while we canít say that we have the perfect formula, after spending countless hours consulting with athletes, media, and the Level 1 staff and rewatching most of these entries more times than we can count we have a list of 16 Semi-Finalists, and 9 Finalists that we stand behind.
Its up to YOU to decide who will take the 10th spot in the SuperUnknown XIV Finals- give them all a watch, spread the word, and vote for your favorite to join the other Finalists and our crew in Sierra at Tahoe, CA at the end of April for a shot at the title! The Wild Card Poll is open until Friday March, 31st 12:00pm (MST) and you can vote once a day.
Who do you think should win? Will Zahner make it to finals as a wildcard again? Or Maybe maybe Jessy Desjardins, back for his third time, will take the sot. Or Zane will sweep away the competition. Let us know who you picked as your #1 and don't forget to vote because votes on the NS poll don't count!
