Contour Welcomes Chris Davenport, Sean Pettit, Daron Rahlves to its Official Ski Program

11.11.2010 – (Seattle, WA) Contour, a market leader in the hands-free video camera category is excited to announce the addition of iconic skiers Chris Davenport, Sean Pettit, and Daron Rahlves to its global athlete team.

Davenport, Pettit, and Rahlves, three of the industry’s best-traveled athletes, will be paired with the new ContourGPS, the first hands-free video camera to incorporate real-time GPS data with high-definition, 1080p video. They’ll exclusively use the ContourGPS to record and post their epic ski adventures and travels, regularly posting video clips to Contour’s location-based video community at http://www.contour.com.

“Chris, Sean, and Daron are the ideal ambassadors and athletes for us,” said Dan Strickland, Contour’s Director of Partnerships. “They’re fired up about the potential for POV video, they all possess unbelievable skills, and best of all, their love of exploring and travel is a great showcase for our new “location-aware” cameras. I can’t wait to see what they shoot and share will their fans in the years to come.”

Chris Davenport is considered one of the worlds’ most accomplished big mountain skiers, and has been featured in over twenty feature ski films, including Warren Miller Entertainment and Matchstick Productions. He’s also an avid mountaineer with countless ascents to his name, including all 54 of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks.

“POV cameras and film have been a huge part of my life for many years,” said Davenport. “The ContourGPS allows me to shoot high-quality HD video, plus record my location, speed, and altitude. That capability will provide skiers across the world a better grasp of just how remote and exposed some of these locations really are. I can’t wait to use them on my upcoming trips.”

Sean Pettit has been called the “Future of Skiing” by more than one industry insider. Known for his versatility on both groomed booters in competition and 70-degree pitches in Alaska, he is one of the best all-around skiers of his generation. His aggressive but fluid style won him Powder awards “Male Performer of the Year” and “Full Throttle” for his sections in Matchstick Productions “In Deep.”

“The Contour is an essential tool for me,” said Pettit. “It’s something every skier should have. I love that I can go out and capture all of this amazing footage, and all I have to do is flick a switch to record and have some fun!”

Rahlves is one of the most decorated American Downhill and Super G skiers in history, winning 12 World Cup races, 28 World Cup podiums and 7 US National Titles. He was the 2001 World Champion in Super G, won the Silver medal at the 2005 Worlds in Downhill and Bronze medal in GS. In 2008, Daron took the win in Skier X at Winter X Games 12 and finished 3rd overall on the Jeep Skiing/48 Straight Tour.

"I use the Contour to capture epic moments on my skis, sled and moto,” said Rhalves. “X-Games, World Cup Ski Cross and the Banzai are full of crazy action, and the Contour’s easy operation and low profile size make it perfect for getting the shot in those situations.”

A rugged camcorder for the estimated 100 million outdoor enthusiasts around the world, ContourGPS makes it easy to capture video from within the action and share it online in seconds. Recently recognized as an Innovations Honoree at Consumer Electronics Show and now shipping worldwide, ContourGPS ($349.99 MSRP) joins the company’s award-winning ContourHD model ($279.99) and is available at REI, Amazon, Helmet Camera Central, and POV Cameras.
