PurpleReignI see it the other way. The BLM activists chose Bernie BECAUSE he is their best shot at enacting positive change. Sure, he marched with MLK back in the day and has talked a lot recently about social and economic inequality, but he has lacked details when it comes to addressing racial injustice specifically. The day after his rally was interrupted, his campaign published a very extensive outline of his racial justice policies.

it more has to do with non existent parenting than piss poor parenting. Once you factor out the prison population, there are significantly more black females 16-40 than black males in the same age group. You get a lot of kids growing up with absent fathers and a lot of fathers with more than one baby momma. Mandatory minimums are part of the problem, but jist about all of those in prison committed a crime.

Still, it is way too early to make any concrete predictions. 538's article even stated "appears", not "is", indicating that they realized they could be wrong.

cobra_commanderThere is a difference between understanding that our country has large cultural issues that are prejudice against a sizable minority of our population and endorsing the actions of the BLM campeign. This is not rocket science.

Being an asshole to folks is not going to do much to stop cops from shooting black people. A well funded campeign to sue the shit out of departments guilty of wrongful death will. changing a culture that has young black men from being responoble for over half the country's violant crime will. I mean, given the exception of an absolute landslide victory which isn't probable, there isn't much more market share likely to be gained in any case. They might as well say "It's Wednesday, and it's our unbiased stance that Thursday is coming next".


It seemed like an obvious ting to say that even if they were wrong- which they pretty much were anyways- but there's not that much wiggle room left in any case so they had that credibility cushion going for them. If they had said it six weeks ago it and it came true it would carry more weight. Now it's just kind of funny that they think that's newsworthy. Gnomesayin'??

onenerdykidWhile I don't think that bad parenting is equally to blame as the police, bad parenting is for sure a component for a lot of issues these kids face. Parents are our first (and arguably strongest) moral/ethical/behavioral teachers and without the proper teachers, kids (of any race or social standing) will have a super hard time learning right from wrong and will be instilled with shitty ideas of what constitutes right and wrong (the confederate battle flag bearing hillbillies are great example of this).

This by no means excuses police of their own foul actions, but it should not be ignored. A lot of Bernie's policies can/will help fight this issue as well.

Not clear growth, certainly not, but averages have consistently been going up on the national level, not with the fire they were before, which was stated in the article posted by 538, and it may be more of a grind for more percentages from here, I do believe though, that it is possible for Bernie to grind his way further and further up the polls.

Especially if he can have a strong performance in debates and/or make a big splash at early states and win NH and/or Iowa, like we saw with Obama in 2008, and if we can remember in 2008 Hillary was the given winner from the beginning as well.

Its clearly a volitile political scene, I just was attempting to express my disagreement with 538 that Bernie's rise was over.
