YoungDaphI don't follow any belief system, my parents raised me to believe whatever I wanted and it resulted in me just not caring about the deeper questions in life. I've never felt the need to ask myself why i am here, how everything started, where do we go when we die etc. I'm happy as a clam just living my life and holding myself accountable for the way things happen.

it sucks to see kids in their early 20's who havent had that experience of really soul searching. they think they are fine living their normal lives in the bubbles of their small communities, a lot of them in the mid west near Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, etc.

I kinda judge people who don't have the urge to travel. To soul search. How can you even reach 23 let alone 20yrs old without having thought about such contemplative questions? I take pride in the intellect and intution of the individuals who stimulate themselves with this.

OP, milk_man, this may come out harsh but you're young yet old enough so I think you can handle it.


You created this thread because God is the almighty influence in your life and probably your parents' and thats fine, I respect that but you need some insight and I wanna hit the nail on the head. Like I previously mentioned, you got insight on a ton of information and constructive arguments in the thread months ago. Since NS is your go-to message forum to stir an argument where you can try to justify your strong stance for all your bible study buds on bibleislife.com. your parents may know you make these threads or that you bring up crazy nonsense of scientific fact at the dinner table over your mac n cheese and broccoli you wont eat, only to direct you back to the path of righteousness and send you to your room with your daily readings of scripture to teach you a lesson.

You're going to go to college someday, probably have a few epiphanies and episodes of self depression and struggle and realize that in this life, it is you, only you. You can pray your brains out but I feel like that only gives you the mental strength and state of mind knowing that you "spoke to him" and you're going to subconsciously get all the answers and be saved. There is so much going on around and in you that you are not in control of. Butterfly effects if you will. "Your impact no matter how great or small can make a difference" is true. Thats where my religion comes into play and that is: when I do good, I feel good and when I do bad, I feel bad.


Do not be one of those bible pushing fathers who ultimately corner their children into being these angels that only wait until their self realization that they are going to choose their own path and be defiant - that happens all the time.

We have to create culture, don't watch TV, don't read magazines, don't even listen to NPR. Create your own roadshow. The nexus of space and time where you are now is the most immediate sector of your universe, and if you're worrying about Michael Jackson or Bill Clinton or somebody else, then you are disempowered, you're giving it all away to icons, icons which are maintained by an electronic media so that you want to dress like X or have lips like Y. This is shit-brained, this kind of thinking. That is all cultural diversion, and what is real is you and your friends and your associations, your highs, your orgasms, your hopes, your plans, your fears. And we are told 'no', we're unimportant, we're peripheral. 'Get a degree, get a job, get a this, get a that.' And then you're a player, you don't want to even play in that game. You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that's being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.

zwiefel12Im a Christian and I choose to live my life a certain way and im not going to argue it, you can choose to live your life a certain way and I wont argue that either.

Here is a thought though, lets say as a Christian I live my life believing in God and living my life according. Personally I think so far my life has been pretty good and I fully expect my future to be as well. When I die if I am right in my beliefs I will be in Heaven etc... If im wrong I'll just die and be in the ground, or come back as a tree whatever.

On the flip side looking at the perspective from a Non-Christian you live your life and if you're right in your belief when you die you will lay in the ground or come back as a tree etc. IF youre wrong... and the Christians are right... Not good for you. And you can argue that you know there isnt a God, but you dont 100% know that, just like Christians dont 100% know either (Thats what faith is) Just some food for thought.

But I do believe that there are things that we can't explain. Scientists seek absolutes explained by science, just like religious people do with their respective God(s).

Really I hardly ever tell people that what they're doing is wrong, even if it is. I don't feel as if I'm superior in any way. All humans are imperfect and I believe that none of us can do it on our own. The struggles and stress of life are a lot more bearable with God. But that's just like, my opinion man

And when someone doesn't accept my belief and even puts it down, I don't get butthurt. Why would I? All I do is hope that they come to the realization of a greater purpose later on in life.

TheBigAppleI wish people would grasp how massive the Universe is and how little we know. What is dark matter? What are sub-atomic particles made of? What is gravity? Humans will never have a grasp on everything. We are to insignificant, to localized, to constrained by time. I know god doesn't exist, and hypothetically if one did exist I sure as hell wouldn't want to hang out with the traditional gods and the people that are regulars of religious institutions.

I think God is a mindset rather than a physical existing being. That being said, I personally believe that religion is a bunch of bullshit but if people want to partake in it then I'm not going to try to change their mind or really even care for that matter. But god damn I met some ignant fucks at Catholic school.

I've never really understood the point of religion. Whatever happens when I die then so be it. If I reincarnate as a bald eagle then that's pretty chill, or die and nothing happens, or go to wherever, I guess I'll find out on the other side when it's time.
