The Grateful Dead is one of the most talented bands of all time and without a doubt one of my favorites. They made so much awesome music and Jerry Garcia was a next level guitarist. Preparing for a couple concerts coming up so I have been listening to them the last 4 days. So Dead Heads, what is your favorite Grateful Dead song?

I actually looked and found NOTHING on The Dead. Oh well here is another. All those songs are great by the way.

I agree they're really overrated. Once any band has shirts you can buy at macys/target theyve reached that point. But I still enjoy them.

Bobby owns a venue, The Sweetwater, in my hometown; and Phil owns a venue, Terrapin Crossroads, in the neighboring town. Both are great venues and I love seeing them both play with the bands that cone through.

my dads got a bunch of bootlegged stuff form lots of concerts he was at. Whats left of them still plays as furthur.

Furthur is done for at least a year. Bobby got fatigued from too much traveling. Phil will be playing with regularly play as Phil and Friends at his venue I mentioned above and Bob will occasionally play at his venue too.

I love hearing a good music never stopped. China cat too. If your trying to get your live dead fix and live in new england, check out shakedown. There a pretty killer cover band. Deadset tuesdays up in burlington are a blast too. Obviously a good dso, phil and friends, or furthur show takes the cake though. Also got a chance to see Bill and Mickey play with the disco biscuits at gathering of the vibes this summer. Not a huge biscuits fan, but still had a blast. It was pretty dope to see three drum kits ragin at once and the biscuits actually pulled together a string of pretty well done dead covers.

Anyway this is probably my favorite music never stopped:

so your telling me the beatles are overrated? the dead were the first band of their kind, and the fact that theyve had so much commercial success is absolutely beautiful. id love to see any of you go onto stage with 5 other people not knowing what your going to do that night and retain an entire culture around you for 40 years now.

with my rant ended, anyone notice bobby is dying? cancelled on multiple tour dates, "im fine guys".

Bob isnt dying you fool. He's an old man and has to take a break every now and then. Traveling at that age is difficult. He comes into the shop i work at with his daughter and he looks very healthy for his age/what he's been through. If anything, Phil is the one with health issues.

I'm not trying to dis the grateful dead or the beatles. Both are great bands.
I can still like a band if I think they're overrated

Most documentaries I've seen on a rock/pop band post 1965 include a short segment where they talk about the Beatles influence on them as a band. I can't say I think they're that good, but their simple song formats opened up a shitload of new approaches to a 2-5 minute song.

The Beatles are overrated and I feel like it's been recent they blew up a ridiculous amount but they couldn't play like The Grateful Dead. Their instrumental talent doesn't touch the Deads. Especially guitar

I disagree. None of these bands are "overrated" if you ask me. These bands were such huge successes because they stood out so much in their time and were such big inspirations. They were just that much more appealing. The Beatles, Queen, the Dead: they were all amazing bands and deserve no less praise than they get. But if they weren't in the limelight, someone else would take their spot. For the most part, the bands of their size are rightfully deemed "the best" of that genre/era.

The Beatles were so popular because their music was lovable by nearly everyone. At their time, they were "drop dead good." If a band can be that good in one era, they'll remain to be at least very good for a very long time. I'd argue that The Beatles are rightfully "overrated." The same with Queen and others.

beatles are considered the best of all time because they were the first to do pretty much everything they did. if they had started in the 70s rather than early 60s ill bet they would be another 70s band that has been forgotten for the most part other than a song or two, like the kinks or supertramp or blood sweat and tears.

If you want a newer band to check out, peep The Sheepdogs. Not the same riff per se, but they have that old raw vibe that the Dead and many other classic rockers had. They kinda remind me more of CCR meets The Band though.

New bands I did that have the jam/rock feel: Moe., The Sheepdogs, Moon Taxi (namely, their first album), Dangermuffin, String Cheese Incident (more on the bluegrass side but Jerry loved bluegrass), Gov't Mule (their lead singer/guitarist replaced Jerry for a few Dead tours), Railroad Earth (again, more on the bluegrass side), Great American Taxi (americana/bluegrass)

I've posted a lot of this in the 420 music share thread. I think you're in there.
