I highly doubt TGR is going to give $100,000 to a rival film company and then use the segment in their own movie.

But this is a pretty smart contest. TGR basically doesn't have to do anything to have a unique movie (aside from coming up with the prize money), and people are probably going to be fired up to have it.

I don't think you understand the concept of the contest at all. It has absolutely nothing to do with the TGR movie. it's a completely separate "movie" that will be made from the entries. rad contest!!

this is the coolest thing I've ever heard of in skiing. gonna bring out the best for sure.

I totally understand the concept. No, it's not going to be THE TGR movie, but in the end it's going to be compiled into a movie distributed by TGR. So one way to look at it is they are forking out 100Gs for what could be a hit on iTunes under the TGR name. Basically, TGR comes out with a sick product and one person scores big while all of the losers help make a movie but aren't compensated in any way.

I'm not ripping on TGR. I think it's a smart idea. But it would also be smart for anyone submitting edits to ask a lot of questions--namely: Does the edit become the property of TGR?

People who say that TGR is needing people to send in edits to make their movie are fucking retards. I don't think most of the people here realize the scope of TGR's business. It goes FAR beyond just putting out a ski movie every year. Honestly any one who wins this makes a TON of money, and seemingly get ingrained with one of the leaders in action sports filming.

Consider the fact that fatbastard belong in TGR's biggest competition, and is just raising a few flags for possible competitors. But much like SU and other similar talent comps before this where the cream of the crop is seen to all viewers and voted on, from what we know now is that this is just a bigger pot.

What I'm wondering is will a sum of 100k actually be detrimental to the skiers? Will they try to do even crazier and crazier things, just outside the reach of their capabilities and risking their lives more willingly because there is that much more at stake than ever before?
